Soft Shell Crab taco
Abraham A.

We happened to stumble across this spot while walking through Palanco. The ambiance and decor grabbed our attention, very hip upscale vibe. All our dishes were great. We started with Soft Shell crab & Shrimp tacos. They were the very best tacos we had on our whole trip, my girlfriend took it to another level and said in her LIFE. I had to agree after a short pause to reflect. For entree we shared the large portion of the Octopus Zarandeado style. It was very tender and tasty. The last to mention was the incredibly attentive service. Jose, Oswaldo & Alexis had taken care of us. They were a great team. In the end, we both HIGHLY RECOMMEND this spot.

Get your seafood fix in the beautiful Polanco, friendly service staff all around, casual nautical vibe, big place with plenty of nice outdoor seating, fantastic food and cocktails, minus 1 star for having the most obnoxious chain smokers day next to us! From the perfect complimentary warm bread and butter, the tasty cocktails, well crafted tacos, fish plate, to the very special giant clams, everything was all so yummy! Sitting outdoors was so nice, other than having to ensure the constant smoke...

This was our second time dining at Campomar - it's conveniently located near a number of hotels in the Polanco neighborhood. The first time we dined here we were wowed by the service and the food - fresh seafood at a reasonable price, nice cocktails, solicitous wait staff. Last night was the opposite in every way: horrible service (we struggled to get refills of any beverage), no coursing out of the food (everything arrived at the exact same time at the table - appetizers, entrees, everything - there was no room at the tiny table for the majority of the food), pushy sommeliers constantly trying to upsell random bottles/glasses of wine, and last but not least: the way they dealt with the RAW whole fish that was brought to the table. After explaining that the fish was uncooked on the interior (we had to hold a phone flashlight up and explain repeatedly), they took it away and spent another 60 minutes RECOOKING the daylights out of the wafer thin fillets. This resulted in a fish that was too dry to eat when they brought it back. No effort was made to apologize, to offer any comps, to determine whether we were okay with the recooked fish (that we obviously didn't touch). Really disappointing. That being said, on the food front the other items that we ordered were lackluster as well (pulpo was tiny and over-braised/mushy; tacos were crammed with more cheese than shrimp; shrimp consommé, while tasty, was wayyyy over salted). I don't think we'll be going back. There are too many other, better seafood options in CDMX.

In the middle of a busy area this restaurant is like a quiet oasis. They have plants all around which help keep the noise down. The food and service amazing!!!!

We loved this place so much that we went twice. It's a beautiful setting with great service and amazing food with reasonable prices. $24 US dollars for the Crab and Mojo sauce with 3 nice size crabs! I suggest making a reservation as it was busy even on a Tuesday night.

The service is some of the best service I've experienced. All the staff was super friendly and attentive and helpful. Our waiter Mendoza was a jewel and so was his companion. Seriously nice and helpful! The ambiance is great, very welcoming and relaxed, you just want to hang out for a long time enjoying your food and the ambiance and the people watching. And the food is just heavenly. Perfectly seasoned and with very generous portions. We ordered a ceviche to start thinking we'd get the meager portions you get in the US and the plate was huge and delicious.

Strawberry Marg, amazing

This place was so fun and the food was amazing. The food was beautiful and the seafood was all so fresh. We loved the ceviche and tuna carpaccio the most. Definitely get some flavored margs too. If this place existed in LA it would definitely be the next hot spot

We were served blue corn tostadas with a few different sauces - all of which were tasty, especially the spicy creamy green one. We then ordered appetizers to share. All were tasty but hands down my favorite item was the pulpito. The octopus was so tender and went perfect with the little potatoes. I also really liked the rib eye tacos which came with the best red spicy sauce and the tiradito which is a campachi Crudo. From the cebiche tasting platter (no photo), I liked the atun the most. Of course we ordered desserts as well. I actually cannot remember the names but will comment on them with the attached photos. One I' didn't get a photo of was a chocolate dessert. It was very good but rich. If you're in the neighborhood I suggest trying this spot out.

Half of the table orders were taken but not the other half. We had to keep calling the wait staff back. We received our food at different times. Someone received burnt rice as well. The manager did come over and apologize in addition to offering us a comp dessert. I did not enjoy the tres leches, it was way too sweet but the other desserts were good.

We had the small octopus cocktail, grilled vegetables, spicy fish tacos, and soft shell crab tacos - that was plenty of food for the two of us. We were the only Americans there, but it was pretty obvious that we weren't locals so they gave us the English menus and our waiter spoke excellent English. The grilled vegetables consisted of marinated portobello mushrooms, green beans, and a carrot. The mushrooms were quite tasty. The octopus cocktail was very refreshing and the spicy fish tacos were pretty good too. We finished the meal with a corn bread dessert (much sweeter than American cornbread) and flan. Both were very good.

They also bring you a table-side display of the catch of the day and everything seemed fresh and amazing, with delicious sounding ways to cook them (branzino, or lemon caper sauce, etc.)

The small plates are still tasty and unique but the flavors and portions have gone down. I got the bone marrow sopes, sopa de lima, oxtail gorditas, and beef tongue for tacos this time around. Everything was good, especially the beef tongue tomato stew which was super flavorful. The beef tongue was perfectly tender and so yummy with the broth. It was a bit odd to eat this in tacos though considering there was so much sauce but good by itself as well. The only dish I didn't like was the bone marrow sopes which this time around felt much smaller than when I had it last. There was barely any escamole which we added on and the bone marrow pieces were so small. While it was one of my favorites the last time I visited, I wouldn't get it again.

We could have probably kept going but we decided to stop here instead. This restaurant was super chill, and even a few people had their dogs with them. My best friend and riding partner ordered something even bigger. The Gordita de guisado de res and it looked yummy. The food and service were outstanding and we would recommend this restaurant to all bike riders!

Being from California, I was surprised to hear that they opened their newest location at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas last month. We ordered the tuna tostada that people rave about. It was ok. We could have used some more assertive flavor from acid or spice. I couldn't eat a whole fish (their signature dish), so we went with shrimp in their adobo rub in a taco and fish al pastor. These were also just ok, but the price tags are high for their entrees. I've seen pictures of others fish al pastor with onions and cilantro and that certainly would have added something I felt was missing. The one thing we ordered and loved was their seasonal mackerel ceviche which was in an apple/citrus/olive oil sauce. It was unique and delicious. I think their ceviche and aguachile are probably their strengths, but the cost is pretty high to leave feeling underwhelmed. Honestly, we will be going back to mi compa chava for better seafood
