I had a very frustrating experience with Camping World. I inquired about a 2017 Forest River camper they had just listed for $6,900. The salesman, JO, was upfront that it had hail damage and some minor water damage on the bunks and that it was being sold AS IS. That was fine with me, and I told him I wanted to move forward with purchasing it. He said I could leave a deposit, but since he wasn't working that day, his manager Jared would call me back. He assured me the camper would be secured for me. Unfortunately, I never received a call from Jared. Instead, the listing suddenly disappeared, and I was later told it had been "mispriced" because of high interest. That explanation doesn't add up. It feels like the price was simply raised after they realized multiple people were interested--right in the middle of my attempt to buy it. Since we are snowbirds, we go to lots of Camping Worlds around the country. Most like this one are hit and miss with respect to customer service. I have been to this location 3 times trying to give it a chance. From the entry where you are met by an indifferent greeter to the service people who either are condescending or cannot hide their smugness when you ask a service question. I won't give it a 1-star because they do sell stuff. But you are on your own as you maneuver around the store. Just don't expect much. read more

My wife and I got a camper recently beautiful love the thing but we took out a financial loan through them and we told them we're gonna plan on paying it off by the end of the year anyways we just did it to get the camper at the deal. We took our camper to Camping World in Council Bluffs for a check up as we had not been able to use it due to illness in the family. Thank goodness my husband made a list of things to be checked. The issues that could have been potentially major issues down the line were fixed. However, relatively minor issues were simply ignored or were deemed unfixable. We had two ceiling vent covers which were cracked. Both needed to be replaced. One was replaced. The furnace door would not stay closed. He asked that it be replaced or fixed. The man he told about this acted like he didn't know how to fix such a simple thing. So it was ignored. The antenna on the radio needed to be replaced. The repairman told him Camping World could not replace it, and didn't know where it could be taken to be to be replaced. The biggest issue occurred with the battery itself. Camping World did not replace it, but simply towed the rv out to the parking lot with a dead battery and left it there. We walked back to the repair area to get a battery because we had already hooked the truck up to the rv. We were told we had to go to the front of the store to buy one. So we bought one. We returned to the repair area to ask if we could borrow a wrench to replace the old battery. The man behind the counter said he didn't have one....BUT, we could wait 30 more minutes and the repair area could install it......for yet another $139.00 on top of the $1600.00 we paid. We walked up to the front of the store and asked if they had a wrench we could buy. The man walked over to all of the nifty rv accessories Camping World carries. Guess what? No wrench. My husband is handicapped and has a prosthetic leg. Guess who watched him walk back and forth to our camper instead of thinking outside the box and offering to lend a helping hand? Those wonderful people at Camping World. They know how to say "thank you", and "I'm sorry". They just don't know anything else. We also heard that they don't work on "old rv's" and we were lucky to get ours in, even though we bought it from Camper World in 2011. As a PS, we had our rv in for repairs while it was under warranty. The water tank sensor didn't work. Surprise, after looking at it twice and declaring it reparied, the sensor has never worked. Camping world was not my first choice to buy a camper. I've never heard anything positive about them and their CEO is a crackpot however, they had the camper that I thought was a good fit for my family and the only other dealer that had this particular model was located in Pennsylvania. In retrospect it would have made more sense for me to drive to Pennsylvania to buy the camper than to buy it at Camping World. We went in on a Thursday to look at a camper we were interested in. As others have mentioned in order to get a price you must do a credit check and then they don't really even give you a price in writing. The experience is very much cloak and dagger. We agreed to put down a deposit and come back the next day after we thought about it more. Friday we took a half day of work and went to the dealer to make the purchase and pick up the camper. I was expecting this to be pretty much in and out We were expecting this to be pretty painless. This is where things went to shit. The purchase took a total of about 6 hours of incredibly high stress and high pressure tactics. Imagine the worst car buying experience you've ever had then multiply it by 1000. They will essentially do everything they can to sell you upgraded good sam memberships, extended warranties, gap insurance, and every other worthless thing they can think of to jack up the prices. Oh and the hitches they sell you are at a 200% markup so buy a hitch elsewhere. They will come up with payment amounts without ever telling you the interest rate or what you're paying for the extended warranty, and paint protection, and gap insurance. They will make adjustments to the interest rates and time of loan all in order to get the extras in there some how. The finance part of the buying experience was so awful that I will absolutely NEVER buy another camper from Camping World. I will go anywhere in the country even thousands of miles away before buying from here. By the time everything was said and done they had added $5000 to the purchase price of the camper by using such high pressure tactics that I literally was about to walk out. Unfortunately, the service department was closed, and we could not find our trailer in the parking lot. Justin said he would locate it for us with no problem and get us on our way. He found it as promised and spent his time calling people and unlocking the gate for us. After we located our camper, Jody was a rock star in getting out of the parked location. Bought my 2016 at camping world in Wenztville and extended warranty thru them. I live here in Omaha, Problem is the on demand hot water heater never worked so I took it in to be fixed, well of course it was the thermostat and they couldn't order one because part was discontinued before it was even placed in my camper, so camping world had my camper for three weeks and on Monday said they could could get me a new on demand hot water heater and put in for 1200. Picked it up today and they now have charged me 2000 for a hot water tank. Shame on them and their wicked ways may the owner and operators get karma for this blatant act of screwing a women over. we put a deposit down on a camper. Check was cashed the next day. Unfortunately, we were not able to get the loan. After 11 days we are still waiting to get our deposit back. Don't think it should take this long. Most places your deposit in not cashed until the loan is approved. Also found out the same camper in the Kansas city area was about $4000 less. Have sent many message and phone calls to the salesperson Loyal and the finance guy Chad Hass and they will not return calls to let us, to le us know when we will get the deposit mailed out to us. Buyer beware. I signed a $4000 cleaning policy while I was trying to get insurance coverage over the phone. A couple days later, after I had time to read the fine print and learned most of the policy did not apply to my camper and that $4000 would pay for any repair costs over and over, Camping World (CW) would not cancel it. CW refunded a portion but not the mutually agreeable amount. Sadly, I have no record of that amount. The $4000 policy was added to the purchase price of my camper and I had to pay road tax on the policy. Then, CW withheld $200 of that tax money from the county tax department. After I received a bill from the county and brought the matter to CW's attention, CW forwarded the missing $200 to the county. Also, CW shorted me $400 when I cancelled other policies because of high cost. I was refunded after I brought it to their attention. The camper was a "new" used one, purchased new by someone, then traded back. More than one CW staffer told me the camper had no warranty. I contacted the manufacturer and learned the camper was indeed under warranty and was also recalled. Hope someone can learn from my experience so CW doesn't profit unfairly. Take all the time you need to understand the fine print and the math. read more

Bought a Bighorn brand new from camping world in council bluffs. It started in sales when they asked me to buy a warranty. I told them I was not interested in a warranty. They told me it would help there numbers and they would cancel it on Monday. I went ahead and did it thinking it won't cost me anything and I would be in good favor with them. I had it 90 days and found several warranty problems. Normal stuff here so wasn't surprised. Besides I helped them out with their numbers. They gave me an appointment time of anytime after 2 pm to make sure they had room for the camper. I showed up about 1 hr after that and I got scolded for that and told me they have a lot of campers and need to honor appointments. I agreed and explained I was told to bring it in after 2 pm it is now 3 pm. Bob told me no your appointment was for 2 pm. He told me due to the size of my camper they would be done in 2 weeks and needed it gone. I said I have a spot and will be ready for it. 6 months later after calling several times throughout the winter to get it they said it will be ready on Friday after 5. I called at 12 on Friday to confirm and Bob said oh we had an accident and your camper has been damaged. They said my camper was too big for the forklifts and could not keep it from sliding when they hit ice. I came in took pictures and they would fix it and make it right with me. The worst repair job I have seen had to have them fix it 3 times. The last time I asked Bob would you accept this treatment and work from someone. His response was " we didn't even have to tell you about it we could have fixed it without your knowledge" So now I have talked with Justin the manager. He said he would make it right as well. I have called and sent emails and will not get a return call or email. He told me he was hired to turn this bad reputation from the customers around. He was from Baxter and could do it. Well Justin you have failed and you lost a customer. I was told by all my camping friends to stay away from this place. Well guess what I get to tell all my new camping friends and people looking for a place to buy a camper. Stay away from camping World Council Bluffs. They will lie and be dishonest to make money. I had my Motorhome in there 4 times last year for warrant work and every time it was several weeks before I got it back with very little done each time. I had a problem with my dashboard since day 1 and it took almost 5 months before they said it was done but, when I went to pick it up I actually found that it was not. This is the worst service department I have ever experienced and if you want to camp during the season, I suggest you find somewhere else to get your unit serviced. i had a problem with my unit having puddles of water on the floor and took it to them 2 different times and was told they could not find a leak so, i finally got so upset that I took it on myself to find the leak and so i did. It was the filter on the water pump that was loose and it took me literally a few minutes to fix it. In the time that the water leaked, it ruined my cabinet on the unit and they would not do anything about it. This was brand new when it got it. STAY AWAY from here!!! read more

Went in on Saturday to purchase a Class A motorhome at the Council Bluffs Iowa store. Ended up with salesperson Derrick, who has no business selling shoes littlelone equipment he knows nothing about. Spent 45 minutes going over the unit we wanted to buy and the features on the unit. We said that we wanted to test drive it before we purchased it as $60,000 is a lot of money to spend on a used unit without taking it for a testdrive. We were told he didn't know how to put the slide out unit back in and there wasn't a tech available to help him. Said we would have to schedule a test drive for Monday evening, which we did. We asked if we should place a deposit as we wanted the unit ASAP, and we were told no, not a problem. I received a call Monday morning, and I was told that they sold the unit 10 minutes before Derrik called me. Spoke to the manager, Biff, who basically told me tuff luck. Derrik is new and didn't really know what he was doing.I have never been treated SO rudely in my life!!! I will never go here again!! I would not buy a glass of water from these people if I was dying of thirst. I will tell every person I know and post on every forum I can just exactly how terribly we were treated there. Camping World would not order parts until approval. Since they got approval 2 weeks ago still haven't ordered parts- limited service personnel. We bought a Montana from Camping World in Myrtle Beach, SC. Great Service..We were passing thru Iowa area and our inverter For our fridge wasn't working. I call and a young man answered and I explained our situation. Keep in mind we have had this New fifth wheel for less than a month. Very nice young man says bring it in and someone will go out and just take a look. Maybe we can help. We get there and the man in the service dept. could not believe someone told us that they could help us. He said we close in less than an hour. All he was concerned about was who took the call. The time he spent trying to blame someone he could have had someone to take a look. He said no one could help that they probably would have to order a part. What a waste of time. Warning!!! The Camping World in Council Bluffs, Iowa is not an honest business. I took my pop-up camper there after my air conditioner quit working in August while we were camping . A week after I had taken it to them I received a phone call saying they could not crank it up to open it and they would have to order a new crank assembly and the price for the part and for the repair would be $1100.00. I told them they must have broken it as I did not have a problem all summer while using it and camping. Of course they denied that and told me that never happened to any of their customers. I did not want to put that much money in my older camper ( 1995 Coleman) so called them back and said do not order the part as it was too much money. I was told it was a special order and I asked them to cancel the order. They said they would try. TWO WEEKS later I was told they could not cancel the order but if I would pay for the part-- $415.00. I could take it. Why did it take two weeks to find this out? It was two weeks after that before it came . I tried to call the corporate office to no avail. I was told someone would e-mail the Council Bluffs business and they would call me back in 2 days . No one called me So I called the corporate office at least 2 more times , each time I was told they would e-mail the management at the Council Bluffs office and I should hear back in two days. NO ONE CALLED. So I finally called the manager at the Council Bluffs this time the general plant manager. Very cold reception - very uncaring and he also denied any one there would break anything. So I am now out $480 which included the part and the shipping fee. Because I am an older widowed woman I feel I was unfairly and dishonestly treated.
