This is a basic, no-frills campground that delivers big on scenery and solitude - and not much else.
Finding the campground can be a challenge if you're coming from Virginia because some of the roads aren't on most maps. If you're feeling adventurous, head towards Bergton and follow Route 826. Be careful because it's easy to miss - it's on the left just before the small store. This road will take you off the pavement and up through the mountains, and you'll have to ford two small creeks to get to the campsite. If you're coming from West Virginia it's much easier and there are signs for Camp Run Lake as well as the campground, all you have to do is follow Camp Run Road and it's about half a mile down.
The campground is situated next to the small Camp Run Creek and has about 10 spots, none of which are marked (all of which are free). There is a pit toilet and some overflowing garbage cans, so you should be prepared to pack out what you pack in. The campground is in serious need of a makeover and some upkeep. Most sites have a fire pit (or ring) and a grill, but many of them have been knocked over or rusted away. A few sites are completely overgrown with weeds and covered in leaves, so you'll want to avoid them. The best sites are at the far end because they're in decent shape and have great views of the creek and forest. All sites have a tent pad, a parking space, and picnic tables.
Unfortunately this campground is used for parties, so there is litter and broken glass everywhere. Think twice before letting small children and dogs play unattended. We stayed on a Saturday night and were the only campers, although several cars and trucks came throughout the night, including a group who were looking for a place to have a party (we scared them away simply by being there). Don't be surprised if you get some visitors driving up at night.
Aside from camping there just isn't much to do nearby. No hiking or anything to really see or do aside from relax at your campsite and appreciate the beauty of being in the woods. If you're looking to get away then this is your place, but if you're looking for a campground that is clean and has more activities you'll want to go elsewhere.
