The scenic overlook is a great place to take a break from driving, walk the dog and take in the beauty. There is a little information about the River on a sign. Another sign describes Maryland's challenge as a border state during the Civil War. Important Maryland Civil War trails are mapped on the sign. A Memorial also recognizes members of the Armed Forces. The adjacent Welcome Center offers free maps of Maryland and tourist information. Staff is present. Vending machines (that require cash) are located in a second building and a third building offers restroom facilities. There is plenty of parking, but I'm guessing that it's limited during peak travel times. This is a picture worthy stop.

This is not like other state welcome centers that feature exhibits. This is basically a very empty…read morerest stop with a couple of candy vending machines and some pamphlets. It looks like there used to be exhibits (there are empty glass cases). The staff at the desk hide in the back room when you come in. I had to yell back after the employee made eye contact and walked back as if hiding. I said hello, how are you, and she just stated back warily as if a threatened animal. I guess this, after all, is a realistic representation of the state. Might as well change it to a Spirit Halloween.

Yes the items are consistent in the rest areas... consistently bland and obscenely overpriced! The worst part here - since I've only ever really stopped here for gas, with barely an exception - is that the gas prices are way higher than off the Turnpike. For example... I paid 2.76 per gallon here... stuck to $10. Breezewood was 20 cents cheaper. Cumberland, MD was 40 cents cheaper. I mean come on. It's practically just down the road. People talking about Burger King being good food, I mean, I guess anything is good compared to licking the sidewalk, but I still my choose that over Burger King. Lots of space, nice and clean, restrooms not as perfect as advertised, but if I can pee in them, I don't care. The plaza looks like it was recently serviced. I guess that's why they call it a Service Plaza.

It's kind of too painful to talk about because after time, life changes to the degree that you don't even remember yourself or what it was like, just that it was something special and now it's gone and it's too much to talk about, and there are no words to describe the emotions except at this rest area is a graveyard to memories that will never be felt the same way again. It's also a perfectly functioning and clean rest area but with no gas or restaurant or anything like that.

Each room has it's own outdoor space, and the area behind the property has been thoughtfully done to give guests plenty of places to sit, swing, or just hang out by a fire. It was too chilly for the pool while we were there, but it looked very inviting. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, and the entire place was kept impeccably clean. There is even a self-service area for snacks and drinks, or things you may have forgotten to bring along from home. There is access to the lake, as well as a place to dock a boat, if you have one. There are also plenty of interior gathering areas that are comfortable to hang out if the weather isn't cooperating. I would highly recommend Cove Creek Lodge to anyone looking for a place to stay at Deep Creek.

I planned a girls trip for a friend celebrating a birthday who just loves Deep Creek. The Lodge is…read morebeautiful, clean, and so welcoming. We stayed on the lake view in room 216, with two queen beds. The room was lovely. We were surprised there was a microwave, dishwasher, glasses, plates and utensils along with a mini fridge too. It was perfect as we had brought some cocktails with us and were able to keep them chilled and do a little tasting of our own. It felt so fancy. We enjoyed so much of the property. We sat on our patio to read, went to the lake and sat and enjoyed the sunset, my friend went kayaking and saw other couples enjoying the kayaks as well. We hopped in the heated pool and enjoyed some corn hole. The first night we were easily able to walk to Honi Honi and Unos and the Casstleman Bakery and cafe we enjoyed walking to twice for lunch and breakfast. It is a busy street to cross without a cross walk, but we crossed at the light when it was on green. Hopefully a crosswalk will be added for additional safety. Unfortunately the internet/tv was out during our 2night, 3 day stay, but it wasn't really a problem as there was so much to do and we were really able to talk and enjoy each other's company and conversation! I would definitely recommend visiting and will absolutely be back again! Don't forget to take a trip to the FireFly Market and cheese shop. Cheese and wine pairings are so much fun and not far at all!
