After being boarded for 3 days, my dog died in their care. I miss her so much! No explanations given

I will never leave my dogs here again. We had boarded here before, but this time was a disaster. We boarded our 2 dogs for nearly 2 weeks. The collie came home with a deep, infected puncture wound on his hind paw. The vet said it was at least a week old. The golden came home with dried blood and a ring of lacerations around his neck... maybe bad rope burn or some kind of strangulation injury. Also my dogs were starving when they came home, eating and eating. Each dog lost over 10 lbs, which is a lot for a 100lb dog. I don't know what goes on here behind the closed doors. The staff at the front seem nice... but something is very wrong. They did not tell us there was any problem or injury to both our dogs. This place should be shut down. Do not take your pets here. I am still paying the vet bills, over $600 to get the wounds healed that were caused/incurred here. read more

I love this place. the staff are so kind to the animals, and so helpful. when I board my dogs here I can call and check in to find out how they're doing, and the staff are happy to let me know. the place is clean and well kept. my dogs get so excited when we pull in to their parking lot. they have repeatedly gone above and beyond for my pets and my family. I trust them totally to care for my fur babies. I recommend them! read more

My son rescued 8 dogs while he was in Bahrain but could not find a home for Naji, the mother.  Naji  is a street dog , understandably with dog aggression but my son could not leave him in Bahrain for obvious reasons.  Naji could also not stay in our home because we have a dog and she showed some minor aggression towards my husband and me (being protective of my son).. We found out it would take 6-7 weeks to get all the shots and other paperwork for her  to get to Hawaii and my son's orders  were well before that date  So,  we boarded  her here for that time.   The staff here took excellent care of Naji and gave him so much attention while she was there!   They understood she was there for a while and sincerely  cared about her. During her boarding, we spoke to staff several times and they kept  us up to date and also reassured us that all was well.   They were also helpful in giving us useful information about  what was needed to fly Naji out. The manager  also met us 1/2 hour prior to opening so that we would be sure to get Naji to the airport on time.  Imagine our surprise when we picked her up at 7:30 and she was also just bathed!   Naji is now in Hawaii safely with her  human.  She looked better than ever when we picked her up! I would recommend this facility for either shirt or long term care.     I would give them a 10 rating if I could! read more

Took my dog there because someone told me it was a great place but it was awful. I boarded my fur baby there while on vacation. I asked for her nails to be clipped for an extra 15.00. When I arrived they said she wouldn't let them cute her nails but charged me for a bath that I DID NOT ASK FOR. I don't believe it was a bath but a prison shower where they spray you with a hose because dry poop was still on her bottom and crust was around her eyes and they charged me an extra 32.00 for that. My baby would not let them touch her so I went to get her she was terrified, barking and backing up in the corner to protect herself, I had to call her name several times so she would know it was me and she jumped in my arms. She whimpered all the way home. My sister dog went there as well at the same time they boarded my pet and she had the same bath experience. I sincerely believe in giving reviews only when my experience is great and doesn't express my bad experience unless it's absolutely necessary and since my fur baby is my child who doesn't have a voice I must speak up for her. read more

I have been boarding my pets with Camp Paradise for years and I have had wonderful experiences with them in every way. My dogs get so excited and happy when they recognize the parking lot. They always look happy and healthy when I pick them up. I highly recommend. read more

I just happen to see a video where this lady was crying saying don't take your dog to scenthound. This made me google Camp Paradise. I had two pits and one mix lab that I dropped off. This wasn't their first stay but I knew something wasn't right the last time bc they smell so bad when I picked them up. This time I dropped off three pretty healthy dogs the mix lab camp back could barely walk and the other one was acting strange. The youngest pit just died that day unexplained and the other one never recovered loss 20 lbs and just to see what was wrong with her not even fix her costed over $1500 so we had to put her down. I called Camp Paradise ask them questions including if they noticed her limbing why nobody called me. They gave some bs answers and didn't know what happened to the dogs. Never called back even after I told them one had died to check on the other. They haven't been back and I been waiting to see something on the news about them to explain this mystery. read more

This May 2023, My dog was there for 15 days and I was so glad to see my dog that I didn't even check him over because he had a collar on . Check out they charge me for the bath but they told me it was included. A week later I decided to give my dog a bath because he had kelp itching I took the collar off and that was when I saw my dog look like he had been strangled. I was in shock. I will never take my dog there again. read more

We have taken our dogs to Scott at Camp Paradise Pet Resort for 24 years. We have had many dogs in their care during this time. They are attentive, caring, and knowledgeable. We have even had one of our dogs go through Scott's obedience classes to help with being skittish. You cannot go wrong with taking your animals to his clean and deodorized kennel! read more

I will NOT be returning here. They don't always pick up their phones. The dogs are set in a room set up similarly like a pound. They can walk and have adequate space and a view to the outside. The problem lies in them putting toy breeds right next to big breeds. A few of them even looked agressive. Despite this my dog looked okay. Nothing wrong, just tired. They offer to board guinea pigs, but they are litteraly just placed on the floor of the entrance. I atleast asked for them to place them on some kind of platform. One of the Workers refuted that they like the attention and they've always done this (?) He then relented and said he would place them on some crates. Upon arrival, my 2 guinea pigs were still placed on the lobby floor. I did this out of fear of prey animals seeing them on the floor! They are also NOT keen on attention. They were also out of hay. I also experienced issues in getting my things back. Mind you, I picked my pets up a day early and received no food back. If there was no food -- what was to be feed to them on the last day? Issues also occured with the price! The agreed upon price that is listed on their website. I also confirmed prices on the phone! I didn't argue with them. Just avoid this place, guys. I am now on my second dog using Camp Paradise as their home away from home. This is going on 17 years. My late mini Schnauzer was a handful. Anytime there was an issue with her while boarding or grooming, they let me know. In her later years she was on meds that changed. Scott and staff were always asking and double checking to make sure they gave her the correct dose. I have now adopted one of the Louisiana flood dogs. He had major fear aggression issues. We could not go for a walk without his trying to bark and "go after" anyone we met. After only one training session, I can walk him without problems. I was told yesterday at the park what a well behaved dog he is. Scott is the dog whisperer! I also have two cats I board with them. I would not think of using anyone else. read more

Have used this place in the past but will NOT be back. I called and told them that I would be 5 minutes late picking up my dogs due to traffic and they would not wait. Told me that I had to pay for another night. They were also going to groom one of my dogs while she was there. They did cut her hair except for one side of her butt and around her face/neck. It looks like she has a lions mane...it looks terrible. Upon calling to complain, I was told that she got aggressive with them. I have had this dog for 7 years and gotten her hair cut the same way every time and have never had a problem or been told that she was aggressive. I'm not sure what was going on but if they are good groomers, they should know how to handle a situation like this...even muzzle her or something if they needed to...I would have understood. I even asked how the dogs were when I picked them up and was told they were good...no mention of this at all. Instead, I pay for an extra night of boarding and a horrendous haircut...I'm disgusted and they have lost our business in the future. read more

I would not take my dogs back here again. The first time I booked an appointment for a grooming and both of my dogs look TERRIBLE. I asked for my schnoodle's face to be cleaned and they shaved her entire body. She looked like a rat. My Bichon, I asked for a Bichon cut and he too was cut down. He was not blown out and fluffy like a Bichon is supposed to look. I set another appointment for boarding and explained to the lady how dissatisfied I was with how both dogs looked when I picked them up. She apologized and stated she misunderstood. The dogs were there for 2 weeks and I measured their food perfectly. I was told they ran out and they had to give them their food. Nobody thought to call me and inform me. I could have had more food dropped off. EVERYONE knows dogs have to be gradually introduced to new foods. My dogs had the runs for hours after picking them up. They were stressed and pooped at my job. Never done before! I called at 8:00 a.m. and inform them I was picking up the dogs and to ensure they would get their baths this morning. I was told they had their baths already. Both dogs smelled horrible, and soiled. I asked why the Bichon wasn't brushed out and the groomer picked up a brush and brushed his face. He was too excited to be still so I told her to forget it. Their blanket had a stench of old urine so loud I had to let the windows down on the way home. My dogs never wet where they sleep unless they've not been let out for a very long time. I'm at work 9-10 hours a day and they never wet where they sleep. I spent $630 for 2 weeks grooming and baths for 2. Both of my dogs stomachs are messed up and they've been pooping all day. They haven't eaten since I brought them home. It's now 9:20 p.m and they won't eat. My Bichon has a cough and neither dog seems normal. I decided to read the other reviews and I'll be making a report to the BBB and the county. I have to take both dogs to the vet in the morning. Never taking my dogs here again. I'm so disgusted with this place. Never again for me!!! read more

After much research, I started boarding my animals at Camp Paradise Pet Resort in 2004 or 2005, when I first moved to that area. Having been an animal lover & dog/cat/horse owner my entire life, I've boarded animals in different states and many locations for over 25 years. So, it was easily apparent that the care and attention my animals received at Camp Paradise Pet Resort was far superior to other vets and kennels I'd used previously. Unfortunately in 2011 my parents became ill, and I was required to spend a significant amount of time away from home helping them with cancer treatments. Sadly & surprisingly, they both passed away in 2012 leaving me to care for their home, estates, family businesses, and their pets (who didn't get along with mine). The sudden, unexpected and extensive changes in my life ultimately required me to sell my home in Covington, and move into my late parents' home several hours away. While overseeing the care and sale of my parents' home, my dogs have been with the wonderful people at Camp Paradise Pet resort almost exclusively (anytime they haven't been with me) since 2012. It's been very difficult to be separated from my animals for so long. I've had friends ask me why I don't move my dogs to a boarding facility closer to where I'm currently living. I laugh and explain there is no way I could trust anyone to care for my animals as well as the professionals at Camp Paradise. From what I can tell, there's been either zero, or very little, turnover in employees over the last 10 years. Whenever I'm at Camp Paradise or call for updates on my pets, the employees are all knowledgable and seem very happy. They know my animals, and their personality quirks as well as I do - even before their current extended stay. While my animals are always happy to see me and head home after a visit to Camp Paradise, to my chagrin they seem nearly equally as happy when I drop them off! As most pet owners know - dogs aren't always thrilled to be walked into a vet or boarding facility. It was obvious early on that my animals actually recognized their care givers and enjoyed being with them at Camp Paradise Pet Resort. In addition, my animals always come home to me clean, healthy and happy without any signs of weight loss or stress at having been boarded. My dogs and I are both very lucky and thankful for the care they receive at Camp Paradise Pet Resort. read more

I have used them many times. I have always been more than pleased. They have gone above and beyond to help me. My baby isn't the friendliest, but loves the owner. The owner came in on his off day to help take care of my baby- at no extra charge. He wouldn't let me give a gift either. I read previous reviews- about not getting all their things back. I have forgotten things too. If it was important, I would have called. I am sure based on the amount of animals that pass through, it is hard to remember who brought food in or who uses their food. I ask for my food when I pick him up. I always send extra and they always have it. All of the employees have been very nice. It is very clean. Thank you for always being great! read more

My two labs love Camp Paradise! This is the only boarding place that they have ever been happy to arrive and not waiting bolt out the door at pick up. Staff always seems friendly and my dogs have taken well to them. The building in which they in is older but seems well kept. Great pricing too! read more

Do not take your dog here!!!! My dog was kept in the basement and was put together with duct tape. I decided to give them a small chance because of the reviews. When I went to pick up my dogs I heard one of my dogs growl out of fear which is completely against her character. For the last three days she has done nothing but throw up blood and have awful diarrhea which we assume has been caused by trauma or having licked blood from being there. I had a perfectly healthy dog when she was dropped off and she has had nothing but issues since I got her back. They will say that they have the ability to go outside but they kept it close and when it was open it was used as an area for them to potty and not be cleaned up. Do not bring your dog here! My mothers dog was covered in dry poop and was whinnying the whole way home. They don't treat dogs well. The owners won't even acknowledge the dogs or pretend to like them. When we picked them up they said some stories about how all the dogs played together which has never happened and will never happen because they don't like one another. I made a huge mistake leaving them here. Don't make my same mistake. read more

I too will NOT be returning there. I have alert dogs who stayed at this place and when I picked them up, they were disoriented. One of my dogs were limping and they claimed that he hurt himself by jumping on the fenced cage. When I got them home all they did were sleep as if their spirit were broken; they are not alert when someone knocks on the door; (thank God for the one dogs that I did not take there who barks whenever she hears a sound); they do not even bark (like they used to) when someone is invited into the home. I wish I would have known this places years ago. I brought my 2 dogs for boarding, 2 dogs in 1 run Friday - Monday (picked them up setup around 1pm) was only $80. I've paid more for only 1 day with other places. Kennel had plenty of room for my 2 medium size dogs. The facility was clean and staff was very friendly and professional. I have used Camp paradise several times I have a pom and 2 other small dogs, 2 stay in 1 kennel the other in one by himself always side by side. Its a kennel so it does looks similar to the pound and it is that way for safety of your animal. They clean the kennels with bleach which is another precaution for germs. If you want your animal to stay on a couch and sleep on a bed leave them home with a sitter this is a kennel where they have multiple animals of size a breed. There is a more posh type place in Covington but what they advertise is not true made an apt with them and they act like they are on site but they are not she does not answer the phone but her recording says she is playing the dogs so she didn't answer. FALSE she was not at the kennel she was home where I went and knocked on her door she did not answer.. she knew I was there I had apt. I was leaving town and chose her because she was close to my house... NEVER will I call her she was not there for me to drop off my animals and text me later to say we will have to do another time when I was literally packed and leaving town.. I call camp paradise and they took my animals last minute contacted my vet for shot records so I did not have to go home and get them. above and beyond for me during a emergency satiation. my pets beds to smell when I pick them up and so do my animals but its a kennel again not home. I only wish they had a bigger place to run in the grass instead of gravel when the let them out of the runs to clean them. My only complaint read more

We just picked up our 6 month old Weimeriener from the one month training at Camp Paradise. It is the best thing we could have ever done!! The transformation from the puppy we dropped off and the puppy we picked up today is truly amazing. They truly take the time to get to know your dog and address their specific needs and faults. Scott taught us so much about our specific dogs personality and how to work with him to make him the best dog he can be. He worked with us extensively as well to train us on how to continue the training and better the life of our puppy. I will send all my future dogs to camp paradise for this training. I live out of town but when I visit, I always use this company. My last experience with them was HORRIBLE and I WILL NOT RETURN! I had to pick my dog up out side of business hours due to an emergency because if I had left him then I would have had to drive back 3 hours just to pick him up. The young lady in the picture had the WORST customer service. I had to ask for a manager after she had already agreed to letting me have my dog, took my money then yelled at me saying how she cant let me have my dog anymore until they open 2 hours from that moment. She lied about not being able to contact the manager then finally called him telling him I was being rude and disrespectful which I was not but I could not understand for the death of me why she could not give me my dog after she had already taken my money for the stay. But what really made me upset was when the manager didn't even ask me what the issue was but took his employees word and immediately started his conversation off with me saying "If you continue to be rude with my employees then there will be a problem". I had to explain to him the issue for him to even calm down. After even explaining to the manager the issue he continued to say how "emergencies" take away from his company and he has to pay overtime for his employees but I was thinking what if customers really do have an emergencies? Not every customer is lying. Anyway I WILL NOT RETURN TO THIS COMPANY! You all are more than welcomed to do business with them if you plan on receiving unprofessional customer service! I have been leaving our pets here for the past 19 years. I have had 3 dogs and 2 cats during this time. One dog lived to be 15, the other 13, and one cat 17. The owners and staff have always been attentive and gentle with my pets. When I pick them up, they are always ready to come home, but always clean and happy and healthy. I will probably use them until my last 2 pets are gone, one is 17 and the other 11. Thank you Camp Paradise for many years of helping care for my pets. read more

Let me start by saying that Scott is AWESOME! It definitely shows that he loves what he does. He and his staff are extremely patient and kind! I love how clean the facility is. Although there are a lot of dogs on site...I have never smelled one of them! :0) I would highly recommend the training services. Our dog benefited so much from it. My husband and I had to leave on a family emergency and needed a place to take care of our baby. Unfortunately we did not have time to visit anywhere before deciding on where to leave our pup. Our first impression was less than desirable. The place looked more like the pound rather than a kennel. After checking in, we asked if we could walk back and see where they keep all the pups. As we walked back we were hit in the face by a strong smell of bleach. The attendant stated they had just "cleaned" all the runs. We had to leave our pup for five days. When we picked her up she wet and filthy and reeked of urine. Her blanket and pillow were both covered in urine. The day after getting her home she started coughing and gagging. We took her to the vet and found that she had a very bad case of "kennel cough". The vet explained that although our pup was up to date on all of her vaccines, the cleaning products used were more than likely the cause of her respiratory infection. We were sent home with three different medications and a $75 vet charge. Our pup now has a clean bill of health but she will never be left at Camp Paradise again! read more

this is my story i took my 2 girl dogs to have a medicated bath and their private area clean I got their at 9 and I was told they would be ready at 2-230 when I went to pick my girls up they look and even smell like they did not have a bath they was not brush out and they over looked cleaning their private area so this guy grab the clippers off the grooming table that was being used by the groomer and gave both of my dogs a quick shave in the lobby how professional is that because of that quick shave that left hair on my dogs on me and in the car 1 of my dogs still had small trace of poop on her hair near her anus as I had to ask to be shaved if they were giving bath why was poop on their anus mind you my dogs is 10 yrs and 12yrs a laberdoodle and a standard poodle has been groomed regularly all of their life because I am new to the state I was looking and that medicated bath sounded good however it did not work out that way without asking any thing I was told you know that medicated bath will not smell like they have been bath in so many words that what he was saying when I smell them they did not smell like they had baths at all my dogs was not shaking their head like they do after a bath because of water getting in their ears if my dogs could talk they would tell me and because of that I will never return again .
