Camps Onas was the best 2 weeks of my life. I made amazing friends, had lots of amazing experiences, and just overall experienced an overwhelming sense of community that, although it was Quaker based, also included Jews, Catholics, Lutherans, Protestant, UU kids, etc. I myself am Quaker, and and a member of PYM Young Friends. Several of my friends from the gatherings were there, interacting easily with children and teens of all ages and religions. As a response to Ryan C, you obviously have some issues because Chippewana is a girl bunk. It is the oldest pavilion on the girls side. the boys equivalent is either Comanche or Lenape, I'm not sure which.
Anyway way, back to Onas. Onas is a beautiful outdoor setting in rural Pennsylvania, with open air pavilions (for campers aged 8-11or 12) and tents with frames (for campers aged 12-13). Campers are given a variety of activities ranging from drama games to archery to This Activity to swimming lessons. On the last full day of each session, the graduates (campers in their last year) take on the role of councilor. They chaperone activities during the day, play tables games to determine who will scrape and clear at meals, and have the responsibility of Area Duty (A.D.) at night. Everything is completely coed except sleeping, and on Evening Activity called Side Pride, which is where the boys side and the girls side each do an activity just for them. Also, some bunks get to go on an "overnight" with their brother/sister bunk where they camp out in the woods or the barn if it rains. There are copious amounts of free time, with 1/2 hour before lunch (usually use by older female campers to shower) and 2 hours before dinner. Free time can be spent in the barn, on the side, on the Dellview porch, in the Dell, the Gazebo, the lower fields, or pretty much anywhere you want to go. Each table gets a different "crew" each day. Some crews include: breakfast, lunch, dinner, grounds and paths, barn and nature center, texas room ,shower house, and off.
Overall, I would recommend Camp Onas for ANY child aged 8-13, especially Quakers, although any religion is welcomed with open arms. There is absolutely NO religious pressure at ALL. As I stated above, Onas was the best two weeks of my life.
