Over 100 years operating as a boys sleep-away sports camp on Lake Winnepesaukee surrounded by the White Mountains, it has some of the best views in the country. A great summer adventure for any kid looking to experience a unique summer sports adventure; campers are exposed to a variety of sports and mentored by an international staff comprised of mainly sport-specific counselors, the campers will experience a summer like no other!

Camp Winaukee is a special place for boys and young men to spend their summer. It's a place that…read moreprovides a rare opportunity of experiences for kids to grow, learn, and have a blast in a safe environment, while they develop meaningful relationships and life long friends. The campus, on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, is absolutely majestic. Yes, there are some bugs...but that's merely an insignificant part of being out in nature and such a beautifully isolated place! Another truly unique feature of Winaukee is that their camp is divided into a Mainland (for younger campers) and an Island (for teenage boys): this allows for two different, age-appropriate cultures that really can't be found at any other camp. Winaukee is a sports camp - pretty much anything you want to play, they have it, along with skilled coaches and periods throughout the day to train and improve, and a waterfront with all the lake activities you could ask for. The training can be as intense or as recreational as you want, it really just depends on how serious you want to be. Beyond sports, there are so many additional events and activities that give the Camp its true spirit: camp fires, community rallies, inter/outer camp competitions, amazing off campus trips to places like Boston and even Canada, and many other traditions that can only be understood if you've been lucky enough to be a part of them. Unfortunately, any place is going to have occasional unpleasant experiences; however, for about 98% of the kids, they leave in tears at the end of the summer because they aren't ready to go home.

They make kids clean bathrooms and showers and also serve the terrible food they give to campers (meager portions, it's a joke that every camper comes prepared with food shipped from home or else kids go hungry. There was an outbreak of foot and mouth disease and parents were not notified of the outbreak and proper quarantine measures were not put in place. They let the kids who had it out after one night with the nurse and never told anyone. And then let these same kids that were exposed back on the many hours long bus ride back to Long Island. How totally irresponsible and stupid. Really, really terrible camp. Do better.

When the campers counselors were leaving the director yelled at my daughters cabin to wrap it up. She loves it at camp and was supposed to season for all eight weeks before they told her to leave. I've been hearing how some of the staff have been treating her rudely and I'm hoping they will learn to respect my beautiful daughter. She's been so kind to everyone at camp and I hope everyone returns the favor so she can come back as a Counselor In Training.

The Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Association has certainly blossomed from its humble beginnings. This…read moreis no small part to the efforts of Amy Tripp, the BOD and the yearly staff which seems to continually get better. The boats for the young sailors has increased in size and quantity. The facility is tight and perfectly set up. The boats are immediately adjacent to the water. They are in very good shape. The house is just right for the current size of the program and the new outside tents are perfect for the lesson groupings. The Covid precautions are smart, sensible and reassuring. An added dose of common sense this year is found in the staggered drop off and pick up times. Every day has been easy in and easy out. The instructors are down to earth and knowledgeable. They herd cats and keep the kids competitiveness to a perfect mild roar. They make sure the kids are having fun! Isabella is the second child I have put through a summer session of sailing at the lake and she loves it. Truth be told she has asked when it would start since school let out. An important note is that unlike many other sailing schools they keep it at 2 to boat. This means, quite simply, that everyone actually gets to/has to sail, not just ride in boats. This is very important because sailing is best learned by doing. If your in the lakes region, go for it. Be sure to sign up well in advance as spots book quickly.
