The facility is tight and perfectly set up. The boats are immediately adjacent to the water. They are in very good shape. The house is just right for the current size of the program and the new outside tents are perfect for the lesson groupings. The Covid precautions are smart, sensible and reassuring. An added dose of common sense this year is found in the staggered drop off and pick up times. Every day has been easy in and easy out. The instructors are down to earth and knowledgeable. They herd cats and keep the kids competitiveness to a perfect mild roar. They make sure the kids are having fun! Isabella is the second child I have put through a summer session of sailing at the lake and she loves it. Truth be told she has asked when it would start since school let out. An important note is that unlike many other sailing schools they keep it at 2 to boat. This means, quite simply, that everyone actually gets to/has to sail, not just ride in boats. This is very important because sailing is best learned by doing. If your in the lakes region, go for it. Be sure to sign up well in advance as spots book quickly.

WLC is a traditional summer camp. If you are looking for a camp for your son to become a soccer star, this isn't it. If you want a place for him to go to make friends, explore the outdoors, and be active, WLC is perfect. Each week campers signup for the morning classes of their choice. In the afternoons, they are given a "free swim" period when they can wander the camp and do whatever they want. From swimming to archery or rock climbing, there are dozens of options. The staff is a mix of longtime staff, former campers, and international staff. The international staff are a constant source of vibrancy, introducing the boys to rugby, cricket, and other culture. Former campers are allowed to grow into responsibility as staff. Longtime staff like Nat Crane and Scott "Goose" Giessler keep the traditions alive. This sums it up best: every time I'm in the area, I return to camp for a visit. When I do, I'm welcomed with open arms and a smile. It's great to be among friends and family sharing fond memories- which is what WLC is all about.

The diversity of activities allowed him to break out of his comfort zone and try new things. The cabin set up created an instant comradery that made it easier for the kids that were attending by themselves. He left feeling close to all of his bunkmates, and even shared some tears on pick up day. He adored and idolized his counselors. They are such a great group of young adults that work together to make the experience for the kids life altering. For example, after the camp there was a noticeable change in our son's confidence. He struggles with social anxieties and has a hard time being himself. Following the camp he started a new school in a different town, and he quickly acclimated and had no problem making friends . I was hesitant to share our experience, but I feel it's important for other families to hear it…read more From our experience, this camp is not run the way it's presented. They do an excellent job marketing themselves to prospective families, but what we experienced was very different once our son was there - Summer 2025. They hire many alumni as counselors or counselors in training who are too young, and when issues arise, there seems to be very little accountability. In our case, it felt like protecting relationships with counselors' families took priority over protecting the campers. Our son attended as an incoming freshman. We discovered his trunks had never even been unpacked. His bathing suits, personal belongings, and even letters from home remained untouched after confirming MULTIPLE times everything was unpacked. Even more concerning, we learned that one specific counselor had been hazing and teasing both our son and another camper. When we brought this to Woody's attention, our concerns were initially dismissed. We later found out they were already aware there had been issues with this counselor. Rather than removing him from camp, they simply transferred him to another bunk--while still allowing him access to his previous bunk and the same children. That decision completely shattered our trust. We spent nearly $17,000 expecting our son to have an incredible summer. Instead, he came home with an experience that has had lasting emotional effects. We didn't fully realize the extent of it until this year, when he was almost unable to get on the bus to attend a different camp because of the anxiety and fear he carried from what happened. Woody's response was an apology, a bottle of tequila, and a $500 discount toward returning the following summer--as if we would ever consider sending our son back. In our opinion, the appropriate response would have been to take full responsibility and refund our tuition. Every family's experience is different, but this was ours. I hope sharing it helps another parent make an informed decision.

It is on the lake so the kids swam and canoed in additon to arts and crafts, games and regular camp activities. This camp has an "old school" feel to it which is exactly what I wanted for my kids. It is type of camp I attended as a kid, not fancy, just a solid, wholesome feel to it. I wish the they offered the option for a longer day as 9-4 is hard to manage if you work out of town but would still highly recommend.
