I was hesitant to share our experience, but I feel it's important for other families to hear it. From our experience, this camp is not run the way it's presented. They do an excellent job marketing themselves to prospective families, but what we experienced was very different once our son was there - Summer 2025. They hire many alumni as counselors or counselors in training who are too young, and when issues arise, there seems to be very little accountability. In our case, it felt like protecting relationships with counselors' families took priority over protecting the campers. Our son attended as an incoming freshman. We discovered his trunks had never even been unpacked. His bathing suits, personal belongings, and even letters from home remained untouched after confirming MULTIPLE times everything was unpacked. Even more concerning, we learned that one specific counselor had been hazing and teasing both our son and another camper. When we brought this to Woody's attention, our concerns were initially dismissed. We later found out they were already aware there had been issues with this counselor. Rather than removing him from camp, they simply transferred him to another bunk--while still allowing him access to his previous bunk and the same children. That decision completely shattered our trust. We spent nearly $17,000 expecting our son to have an incredible summer. Instead, he came home with an experience that has had lasting emotional effects. We didn't fully realize the extent of it until this year, when he was almost unable to get on the bus to attend a different camp because of the anxiety and fear he carried from what happened. Woody's response was an apology, a bottle of tequila, and a $500 discount toward returning the following summer--as if we would ever consider sending our son back. In our opinion, the appropriate response would have been to take full responsibility and refund our tuition. Every family's experience is different, but this was ours. I hope sharing it helps another parent make an informed decision. read more

Absolutely shocking, my daughter was misstreated and bullied whilst at Camp Robin hood and the management team did nothing about it even when she was able to give them evidence that it had been happening. Do not send your children here! read more

For ninety years, boys (and for the past thirty years girls, too,) have flocked each summer to Camp Robin Hood on the shores of Broad Bay, to make new friends in the cabins, to challenge themselves on the fields, to step out of their comfort zone on the stage, and to form bonds that last a lifetime, and in some cases generations. I'm proud to say my family has been part of the Camp Robin Hood family for more than 40 of those years! My brother attended camp when it was all boys - and then in 1987 when girls were added, I was one of the first girl campers (at the time, there were less than 20 of us). I spent 15 summers as a camper, counselor, Group Leader and Waterfront Director. Now the girls and boys camps are equal in size (around 400 total campers) and my oldest daughter will be starting her 4th summer while my twins will be going for the first time. Many traditions are still the same (color war, count-offs, 16 laps, hiking Mount Washington, etc.) while facilities have been updated (new dining hall, several new cabins - others have been renovated, new lodge, updated office, and more) and more activities have been added (Ga-Ga, 9 square and more). I am grateful that my children will get to spend 7 weeks together, away from the hustle and bustle of their school lives with NO SCREENS, enjoying all the White Mountains have to offer. For me, one of the most exciting parts has been watching the never-ending cycle of camp friendships continue, campers often continue through the ranks as counselors in order to "give back" similar memories and experiences to the future generations of the camp. Additionally, the mid-western feel to the camp is a nice change from the fast-past New England world where we live. As a camper, I looked up to the counselors and even the Directors. The Directors today are former campers from the 1970's themselves, and former "camp parents" as well. They have brought Robin Hood traditions forward while continuing to enhance what they offer in the 21st century. And they understand the responsibility they are entrusted with each summer, caring for our children. As a parent, I have found the communication from the Administration both helpful (in preparing for camp and for my children's return after camp) and comforting, when I just want to know my kids are having fun and adjusting to life away from their parents. We have a few sayings at Robin Hood, like "live 10 for 2"(live 10 months of the school year for the 2 months of summer) and there's "magic in the trees". There's nothing quite like the sunset over Lake Ossipee or like camp friends that remain friends for life. There's nothing quite like Camp Robin Hood. I know my family is looking forward to being a part of Robin Hood for at least 90 more years... read more

When I went to this camp (about 20 years ago), I was 7 years of age. It was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. Truly. They had an old ghost story that went like this: Years and years ago the youngest camper went for a swim in the lake at night and drowned. He was a local kid and his mother went crazy. Her name was Annie. To this day, every July 4th, Crazy Annie comes out of the woods and takes and kills the youngest camper in retribution for the unfair drowning of her son years ago. As I was that youngest camper, Crazy Annie was coming for me! It was brought up at many a camp fire and none of the campers or counselors told me it wasn't a real story. Remember, I had JUST turned 7 less than a month earlier. Already scared of the dark, I was petrified my entire time there. The night of July 4th, Counselors in training (CIT's) positioned themselves on top of my cabin, under it, in the nearby woods and elsewhere awaiting my arrival back to my cabin. As I walked up the hill to my cabin, counselors and campers wished me farewell and good luck. I was frozen with fear. As the CITs spent hours screeching my name from outside, I can't tell you the horror I felt. I was too afraid to leave the cabin to go to the bathroom! My counselor dragged me out yelling anyway! Other cabins laughed and locked their doors in case I tried to run for shelter and help. That coming weekend was parents' visiting day. When my mother arrived I had no clean clothes and a temperature of 103 degrees Fahrenheit . I would categorize this as child abuse and gross negligence. Be very careful to ensure this camp has changed enormously before sending your child there. Horrific. read more

My son has attended camp here for three years and for a kid who didn't wish to go to camp the first year, he loved it and went back for an additional week. The staff has been excellent. Communication with parents excellent. Love the daily photos they post for parents where you can see your child flourishing is a huge bonus. My son has made wonderful friendships that have lasted beyond summer. read more

Truly the best experience ever for my kids! They absolutely love it and count down the days until summer. Camp Robin Hood has been such a gift to my kids. Not just a summer camp for kids! I attended a wedding here. This was a good facility, organized, well kept, clean, everything in decent repair. Lots of electrical outlets in the cabins. Good bathrooms and showers. The Dining Hall was excellent, the food and staff there are top notch! We only had access to some of the activities but there are a ton of activity fields and courts including archery and rifle. The beach area is beautiful, sunsets, sunrises, fires at night, supervised swimming. A nice beach house with lots of water equipment and music. Boats available to give you a nice ride around the lake or water ski+ other activities. The beach area gets a big A+. The other big A+ is the staff, the staff was excellent!!!! The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because there are no bathrooms at the Dining Hall. Please add bathrooms at the dining hall especially for functions, any time you have older people on the premises and they have to walk back to their cabins to use a bathroom it is going to be a problem. **If you rent the Camp for a Wedding or group activity make a check list of expenditures. There seem to be some that are not obvious, like hiring an officer for certain hours, extra insurance riders and bartender fees. Make sure you are aware of ALL fees so you can factor it into your budget. Happy Camping!!! read more

I visited Camp Robin Hood with about 45 other college Resident Advisors and 4 college Area Coordinators. We meant to only stay one night but only ended up lasting 45 minutes at this camp. This is why... We first arrived at Camp Robin Hood and had to wait for "D.C" (as I heard this is what he calls himself) to greet us and welcome us. Normally for any type of camp, one would expect a warm welcoming of smiling faces and excited camp counselors or directors. It was quite the complete opposite with our experience. D.C. made us wait 10 minutes before coming out of the Admissions cottage. Not only did he make us wait that long (and there also seemed to be no one in the cottage for the ten minutes I may add), but he also greeted us with, "Hello. Where is the woman I was just speaking to?" in a very harsh tone. There was no smile. After this, he brought us to follow him to our bunks. There were more female RAs than there were male RAs. After having to switch the female bunks with the male bunks (because there were too many females for the smaller bunk), we all noticed the bunks were very dirty and sandy. There was trash everywhere. It looked as if no one had been in the bunks for years. At this point, D.C. still had not said anything along the lines of "Welcome to Camp Robin Hood!" He seemed very grumpy and angry at us. Usually when the Housing Staff from our college goes to camp during training before school starts, it is for team bonding experiences with activities being held by the camp counselors. However, even though our Director of the Housing Department had spoken to Chuck, D.C. asked if we had a schedule or itinerary for activities (even though the camp counselors and camp staff were supposed to help us with that). After this, we had an hour of free time before lunch would be served. Naturally, we all decided to explore the area. There was a beautiful lake/beach-like area, basketball courts, and volleyball courts where we all decided to stay for a while. When D.C. noticed we were out in that area, he became very aggressive with our supervisors. He yelled and screamed at them telling them that for all he knew "we all had criminal records" and were not allowed down to use the facilities. Well, that should have been mentioned to the Director of Housing beforehand, or even better, it should have been mentioned to us when we had arrived at the camp. Also not to mention, it was very rude of him to imply that we may have held pedophilic qualities because we were not children but college students. After this had happened, after he had been so rude and had made one of our supervisors CRY, our supervisors told us to back our bags and that we were going back to campus. We never handed in a check because we had no stayed our visit. We also had to sweep the floors of the bunks before leaving to ensure that we were not going to be charged with hidden fees. D.C. had told us to make sure there were no damages (even though we had only made our beds quickly and were out of the bunk area within 10 minutes). We left the place spotless, cleaner than it was before we found it...and it was pretty bad as I mentioned. All in all, I would no recommend this place to anyone. We had not even met the man yet, and yet, he already seemed to despise us all. I can't imagine how he is like with children. If he were a decent human being, I would maybe consider recommending Camp Robin Hood to others. I would have given zero stars if I could; however, I don't believe it would let me do that. Camp is supposed to be welcoming and fun and happy. We were all happy playing soccer and basketball and volleyball (on the fields far away from the campgrounds as possible). However, meeting D.C. was not worth anyone's time or money or breath. read more

Attending Camp Robinhood destroyed my life. I attended during the summers of 93 and 94, and was brought there by a friend of John Klein's (former owner) in Cleveland, Ohio. I was not only allowed to be taken out of camp to engage in acts of sex with the man in question, but I was abused in my bed, in the bunk house, many times in the evening, just feet away from other campers sleeping feet away. Not only was this man involved, but two other male staff members in the PJ Squires group also were. In August of 94, the day after leaving camp to head home, the man who abused me was caught in the act - by a truck driver while driving through Sharon, PA. The case was blown wide open which went into a lengthy court battle that lasted two years, until I was 12. In the end, 8 other individuals across the US and Canada were incarcerated for being a part of the "ring". Not only did John and Joan, nor anyone at Camp Robinhood issue any sort of apology, they fought tooth and nail to cover this up, and refused to settle for a dime of restitution in the end. I had three of Cleveland's most high profile lawyers and they received 3/4 of my settlement. Maybe it would have felt better if Camp Robinhood offered an apology, or something, to show that they cared - even a little. But not once. The lawyers conveniently lost all of my photos, letters, every belonging tied to that era of my life. What's the moral of the story? BEWARE before sending your kids there. Even though I attended 30+ years ago, this still can happen. Multiple pedophiles were involved in a ring there - I was knowingly aloud to leave to be pimped out in hotel rooms. I fully believe the owners and others at the top knew far more than they mentioned, maybe some were in on it. Attending this place and the events that took place there 100% ruined my life. I've never been able to shake off the PTSD from the experiences I had there. This place was not the dream I anticipated - but rather a complete disgrace. Don't send your children there if you care about them. read more

The owners and directors of this camp should not be in charge of children. They claim to be inclusive and have strong values but they themselves bully and harass children. They are all about the dollars and are actually detrimental to many of the children's well being. As much as we liked the kids at the camp the owners completely ruin the experience and cause more damage than good in our experience. read more

Both of my children have attended Camp Robin Hood. I can't say enough about the warm mid west culture that CRH fosters. My children are more independent and openminded individuals thanks to Robin Hood. The administration genuinely cares and they get to know every camper that enters the gates. read more

I was a staff here briefly and it was a horrible experience. It's like a cult. They treat you bad if you're not a former camper there
