Some of these reviews are ridiculous. Complaining about the food, showers, restrooms, cabins and bunks? Just a reminder that this is camp not a 5-star resort and spa. If you're on the fence about sending your kid to camp with their school, just do it. Let them disconnect from electronics, let them miss being at home. LET THEM BE KIDS. Yes, some of them might come home with sniffles or a tummy ache- so what?! They'll be just fine. My youngest just came home from camp this afternoon- he had an amazing time playing in the snow, learning new things, and making new friends! Shoutout to Mr. Justin, Mr. Fishy, and my son had the best time with you guys!

My child went to this location for 6th Grade Camp. Per my child, each cabin has a center room and four separate sleeping areas with about 16 bunks each. My child said the bunks were metal and a bit rusty with thin mattresses. (I've seen pictures online and they look like prison cell bunks). Just make sure your kid has nice comfy blankets from home. The showers were also like gym ones with very little privacy. My child did not like the food either. Those were the main complaints. But otherwise they spent lots of time outdoors, and did a variety of activities with some free time in between. My child said the counselors and leaders were nice.

Camp Cuyamaca (aka Cuyamaca Outdoor School) provides high-quality, student centered science education along side instruction of social emotional wellness for 5th and 6th grade students. Staff are highly trained in delivering content and creating a safe community while students are attending. Students are immersed in and engaged with nature, attend classes that include science and recreation as well as team and community building. They get the opportunity to live together as cabin mates and enjoy meals together in the dining hall. It is a program unlike any other and I highly recommend it, and it is a once in a lifetime experience.

This family owned and built setup gives an old timey backyard feel with games ranging from treasure hunt, archery, ax throwing to a large garden/nursery. Like a large backyard it is all dirt paths with over grown trees & bushes so i would not come in high heels or nice shoes. The garden area is an "instagram" worthy spot for influencer photos as it is decorated with vintage photo frames, art, pottery giving it a rustic yet artsy feel. Pictures on yelp do the venue more justice than the companies website or TripAdvisor. Dates and hours are limited, as the family runs all aspects of Fort Cross. Highly recommend confirming they are open before just heading out. My one reservation or word of caution is with the archery. There are no forearm guards or finger protection offered. The bowstring with repetitive can possibly hurt your skin and cause of injuries.

Aim to hike in the morning for the most shade. Start at the parking lot across the street and pay $10 to park. There are restrooms on site that are relatively clean. The first quarter mile is a little steep and not shaded, so it seems like you're in for a strenuous hike, but it quickly turns to shade and very gradual incline switchbacks. It's not until you get to the last quarter mile that it gets steep and sunny again. The trail is 2 miles one-way.

It's a little over an hour from the I-5/I-8 intersection to reach this trail. We visited during the cooler season when the afternoon temperature was in the low 70s without any clouds to obscure the sun. There was a parking lot across the road from the trailhead for campers and day hikers. The charge for the latter was $10 per vehicle. The trek to the summit was roughly two miles, and we managed to reach it in about 50 minutes. The trail itself had a lot of gentle switchbacks which made the ascent easier and allowed us to keep a good pace. There was also a lot of shade throughout the hike which made it even more pleasant. We saw many parents with young kids along the way. That indicated the difficulty level wasn't too strenuous. Having said that, the final climb did involve scaling across boulders before you reached a set of rock steps with metal handrails on one side leading up to the peak. The views at the top were gorgeous with the backdrop of a clear blue sky and other mountains in the distance. A few signs were mounted facing different directions. They described some of the landmarks that you could see from the respective perch. The only feature missing from this trail was the presence of a nearby body of water (e.g. creek, pond, lake). That would have elevated Stonewall Peak Trail to a full five-star experience.

Use GPS directions or you may pass the entrance. The entrance is right after the Pine Valley Cafe. Cellular reception is good in the mountains. I couldn't sleep the first night from all of the excitement so I sat alone in the middle of the field to gaze at the beautiful expanse of the heavens. Unbeknownst to me, that night a geomagnetic storm was creating amazing aurora borealis around the earth. Although my eye could not detect any hues or colors in the sky, my camera did and took some amazing photos!!! The next night I tried to take the same pictures and there were no hues, so I deduced that the night before must have been the Northern lights that the camera detected and recorded.
