Before the treatment, I told myself there was absolutely no way I was going to fall asleep. Well... that was a lie. Not only did I fall asleep, but I actually caught myself SNORING! And as if that wasn't embarrassing enough, I hadn't eaten beforehand, so my stomach decided it also wanted to participate in the exam. I'm talking full-on stomach growling in the middle of what was supposed to be a peaceful, relaxing environment. I believe even the instructor observing Aileen started laughing. Honestly, if my stomach managed to break the tension or silence during her exam, I'm glad I could contribute something to the experience! All jokes aside, I genuinely had a wonderful time. For someone who had never experienced anything like this before, I couldn't have asked for a better introduction. Aileen did an amazing job making the entire process feel comfortable and relaxing. The fact that I managed to fall asleep probably says more about how relaxing the treatment was than any compliment I could give! I walked in not knowing what to expect and walked out feeling refreshed, relaxed, and wondering why I hadn't tried this sooner. I also found the pricing to be very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the experience. A huge shoutout to this talented young esthetician, Aileen Tadeo! After my appointment, the stylist reviewed my personal social media and later sent me a message declining to service me further--not due to anything that occurred during my appointment, but because I styled my own hair differently outside of the salon. While I respect a stylist's right to set boundaries in their chair, reviewing a client's personal content and making assumptions about them felt unprofessional and inappropriate. Client autonomy outside of appointments should be respected. That said, this issue reflects one individual, not the academy as a whole. I would absolutely return to Bellus Academy and simply book with a different student/stylist moving forward.

The Element was the only studio we found that offered a class for two-year-olds without parents in the room, so we decided to give it a try--and I'm so glad we did! It's very disorganized and a lot of the children become distracted due to the uneven flow the "lesson" takes... They're given ribbons for a couple minutes, then taken away, given a ball, then taken away, etc... The lil girls want to be girls and have fun. This is not a "school" for anyone under the age of 20.

We were warmly greeted at the door, bought two small glasses of wine for a donation and mingled in the foyer with Zaquia, who also doubles as a yoga teacher at Sculpt Fusion Yoga where I teach. We chatted up some new friends and met some friendly Visionary staff. The performance space is intimate - with chairs set out no larger than six across and only a few rows deep, with the back rows on risers. Performers entered through a curtain at the rear and well-timed lighting in a variety of colors illuminated the performance. The show itself was a modern dance exploration of identity, relationships, connections and misconnections with music that echoed a past Americana that perhaps only existed in our imaginations. I found it visceral, poignant and heartfelt. Chun P. is not really the modern dance type - but he enjoyed it and we're both planning on coming back to Visionary for another show!
