The food can be really good but the service for takeout here is awful. When I picked up from here a few months ago, I had to wait inside on the order for 35 mins even though it was supposed to be ready when I got there. There's 5 girls just standing around chatting while one person is slowly trying to get my order ready. We picked up from here last night as well and ordered two pulled chicken salads and a sandwich. When we got home, we discovered the salads were strictly iceberg lettuce and chicken. No other toppings whatsoever. After having to call and complain, she offered a credit but wouldn't let me come get any toppings to make the salad edible because they were about to close. Finally after having to get very upset about it, she offered to stay open for me to drive back and get it. This should have been offered in the first place ALONG with a refund for the salads since we had to drive 40 mins round trip for the two visits just to get a decent meal. The management here is extremely lacking. If they managed it properly, there wouldn't be so many issues with the service and workers. Unfortunately, Brewton doesn't have that many dinner options and unless something changes, it will have one less. read more

Very disappointed that we never got to try the food. We are a family of six and were seated out in the middle of the restaurant. Lots of servers and employees walking around but no one ever came to our table. We were looking around the restaurant and it felt like the staff were trying to avoid making eye contact with us. The restaurant was not busy and only a handful of tables were sat. After 15 minutes or more we decided to leave. Went to Dave's Catfish House where we had a wonderful experience instead. read more

Camp 31 is a great experience all the way around.. The food and atmosphere are wonderful. When my Steak came out it was still sizzling on the plate and the service is wonderful.. I've ate here several times and the only time I've had to wait a little longer was when the place was packed out to capacity, which is to be expected. Overall, Camp31 has most always satisfied my desire for good, well-seasoned dining. Their wait staff is usually attentive and efficient. I always enjoy a good salad bar. Camp31's salad bar has come a long way over the years. It's not huge, but what it offers is a nice diverse selection of pre made salads and the basic garden salad items. I wish Camp31 would section off part of their dining area as a more intimate bar area. Hopefully, as time progresses, so will this large, rustic barbecue/buffet/steak/seafood restaurant. For openers, if you think the best barbecue is usually found in the worst part of town, in a place with bars on the windows, and just enough grease on the table to write your initials - then you'd be wrong, this isn't it. If, on the other hand, you think it likely you can find good 'cue in a 100+ year old converted sawmill with a tin roof, 19 miles off the highway then you've found Camp31 in Brewton, Alabama. Grab a handful of paper towel from the roll on the table friend,, you're in for some good eating. Camp31 may be the only barbecue joint the Brown Shoe Gourmet has ever visited that also has an operation in Canada: Paris, Ontario , Canada, a mere 1,081 miles away, to be exact. Or, as owner Larry Murphy boasts, "we have the best barbecue (far) north and south of the Mason Dixon line." For a guy who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue (read my 95+ barbecue reviews on Yelp), this isn't it... but it's close. Very. The ribs and brisket were the best of the meat offerings we tried. The pork a little too long in the pull and a little too short of the good smoke flavor that both the previously mentioned meats had. We'll ry the chicken next time. Making things even better, the St. Louis cut ribs had a crisp char, or bark, where the pit master finished them off over a high flame after a very long time being cooked low and slow, mostly likely over hickory. The folks back in the kitchen also knew enough not to trim the fat off the brisket before smoking, and to leave just enough to add the flavor when it was served. The brisket (Angus beef - an unnecessary cost since brisket must be cooked for so long) came stacked high on a sandwich; the ribs and pulled pork were part of a combo plate (four ribs, a large dollop of pulled pork, and two sides for $12.99. More than fair. They also offer fried chicken and steaks, but I'm not sure why. A word or few about the sauces: seven. Seven sauces with, as is most always the case, the original being the best. They have a jerk sauce (no comments, please), then there's a barbecue chipotle, and the customary Alabama white sauce great for chicken (which we didn't have), the honey mustard, the "ragin' Cajun," he applejack barbecue sauce (great as a dessert, but too sweet for the meat), and The Original. Sides? You betcha. Probably the best hand cut, deep fried French fries enjoyed in a month of barbecue. Absolutely great and they offer them from sweet potatoes as well.. The slaw was finely chopped and not too sweet, and others included the traditional Mac 'n Cheese, baked beans, potato salad, collards and, believe it not, even Caesar salads. Order from your table (an increasing rarity these days, and in a few minutes, it's there. Our waiter, a young man knew Camp 31's story, guided us through the menu and kept lose tables throughout. Glasses kept filled "thanks you(s) and visit us again" as we left., The sign outside (they also cater and have an event hall in the same building) says Camp31 is "Alabama's Finest Real BBQ." Have not yet enjoyed all the barbecue Alabama has to offer, but would agree it's among the very best - and their story (how many 121 year old former sawmills turned barbecue joint to you know?) is certainly also among the very best. Not exactly convenient, unless you're one of the 5,500 folks who live in Brewton, but well worth the side trip. read more

The recommendation to try the Alabama Pork Fries with sweet potato fries was spot on. We devoured it quickly. The fried okra is one of my favorites. The ribs fall off the bone. I loved their fresh lemonade and today they added blueberry to it. Every food item we tried was delicious. We have passed this restaurant multiple times during the last year as we drove between Birmingham and western FL. Each time we said we had to check it out but it was never a "meal" time. We will probably make it a "meal" time the next time we come through. read more

Best BBQ around. We got a grand slam and a steak. All the food was cooked to perfection, and the portions are large. We had to take most of it home. The staff is friendly and quick. Bathrooms are clean. It has a nice country atmosphere like a sawmill. Smells of BBQ and cedar wood. I will be back! read more

A group of 9 of us showed up to eat on .25 wing night and were seated shortly after. We waited about 15 minutes while the waitress for our section COMPLETELY ignored us. Her name is Christy, by the way. Then after waiting even longer, finally a different waitress from a section across the restaurant walked over and proceeded to tell us that Christy refused to serve us. Excuse me? We were very confused about why a complete stranger would refuse to take our order or even bother getting us drinks. I have never in my life been treated so bad at a restaurant before. More than an hour and a half for LUNCH and even then the food was served cold. It's a barbecue restaurant, you shouldn't have to cook anything! After sending our orders back they returned with a hot version. Alas, the barbeque is so tasteless it makes me wonder if they are simply buying processed food and not doing any cooking at all. The restaurant is billed as an award winner... they must have been the only restaurant that entered the contest. George's has great barbecue and they actually cook their own. Found this through Yelp and I am so glad! The atmosphere is a nice surprise in such a small town and the food was delicious. I had the beef brisket plate with fried okra and sweet potato fries. The brisket had great flavor and very tender with generous portion size. The fried okra was not your normal frozen and fried, it tasted freshly battered and seasoned well. But the SWEET POTATO FRIES..... oh my word. Goodness gracious they were the best thing on the plate! Fresh and a little crispy with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, they were the perfect compliment to the brisket. We will be back again. Soon! read more

Classy place with the best beef brisket you will ever have. Salad was huge and the sweet potato fries are to die for. Seriously one of the best bbq places I've ever been to and with a nice atmosphere. And inexpensive. Paid $10 for all that and left extremely satisfied. This is the only time that I have wanted to post a review on any food locations that I frequent. The service was awful, they're were six adults and everyone was well behaved, everyone was having the buffet and drinking tea. Simple, right? Do even close. Everyone went to the buffet and prepared our meals. When we arrived back at the table and our tea was just getting there. Keep in mind that the tea was ordered before we ordered the buffet. When we arrived back at the table we all took our time and talked about everything. The food was great but we ran out of tea about half the way through the meal and were never offered a replacement or refill. It took forever to get her to give us the check. Sunday is "Southern comfort" food buffet. Soft rolls, mashed potatoes, rice, brown gravy, cabbages, Lima beans, black eyed peas, broccoli casserole, green bean casserole, stir fried squash and zucchini, potato salad, Cole slaw, fried chicken, fried fish, baked ham, roast- Mississippi mud pie, peach cobbler, banana pudding, yellow cake with chocolate butter creme icing.....man it was all awesome. Ahh Camp 31. All of the ability in the world, it just didn't produce for me. The pulled chicken is so covered in sauce i couldn't taste the chicken, it was also very greasy. Second, the brisket. It was bad. After it was cooked they apparently put it back on the hot top and cooked it more and covered it in sauce. That lead to an overlooked, over charred, greasy, heartburn inducing brisket. Which not to mention, was literally served to me like scrambled eggs, re-cooked and stirred around soaked in "grease sauce". If the chicken and brisket had good flavor it was completely smothered with sauce, grease and some kind of re-sauté process. Smoked chicken and brisket are my two BBQ favorites, so you can imagine my sadness when they were too bad to I just took another bite, the chicken and the brisket both taste like grease. Here's a funny one, the baked beans are Bush's baked beans lol. If you're looking for authentic BBQ this IS NOT the place. The best thing on my plate was the toast, mainly because of the excess use of margarine. The meal was cheap, but not worth it on my first go round. I'm actually going to try something else, maybe I can learn to like something here. Right now I am not impressed. read more

Found this place on Yelp and I'm so glad I did! The food was amazing. Smoked chicken was great, the coleslaw was on point!!! We were a group of 20 and everyone left more than satisfied. Definitely recommend this place. The service was the best, we had a lot of kids with us and our server Carla was amazing. This place has good service and kind staff. We ordered brisket and smoked chicken with sides. The smoked chicken had good flavor and tender. We're big fans of brisket but this place was a let down. The brisket had a little bit of flavor. It was cut and served as very thin slices like a cheesesteak and the bbq sauces were not appetizing. The baked beans were clearly from a can and pretty bad. Was referred here by a friend. I am a vegetarian and my husband is a carnivore so this place is more to his taste than mine. The food here is fine. The atmosphere is rustic but comfortable. The problem lies in the SERVICE - or lack of, actually. We have eaten here twice with a large group; both times for lunch, and today the restaurant was almost empty. 4 months ago I was the "lucky" one - the waitress LOST my order and I had to wait while the entire table of 15 ate their lunch. I was compensated with a complimentary desert. I thought, eh, we all make mistakes. We ate here today (10/29/16), again, for lunch with a group of 12. Not all our guests arrived at noon, but our waitress both times had to flagged down to get her attention & let our guests order. Our last guest got her MEAL before she received her drink and well before other guests who ordered before she did. Several of us were almost finished with our lunch before the last of the food arrived. I asked the waitress about the available deserts & she answered my question. Before we knew it, she brought all of our checks and never asked if anyone even wanted desert (many of us did!). On both occasions, it seems that the wait staff were unable to serve all the food at the same time & in a reasonable amount of time. We decided we will NOT return to the location anytime soon as both times the staff was unable to serve us together. The restaurant was NOT busy - apparently our waitress is too inexperienced to know how to wait a large group. We discussed the problem and we will not be returning to this location anytime soon.
