Donnie took a lot of time to walk through what he and his team would do and what he did after the fact. I really enjoyed working with him and 58 on the sump pump installation.

My review of 58 Foundations on our basement dig-out project…read more Please be advised that 58 Foundations appears to operate in violation of home improvement regulations in the District of Columbia. Their contracts are legally deficient, as they omit both the salesperson's license number and the project commencement date. Furthermore, the District of Columbia Licensing Board (DCLP) was unable to locate a license for our specific salesperson or any other individual at the firm. It seems they don't have a licensed DC salesperson. Following a ten-month delay, the company proposed a change order that would double the initial project cost. This increase is a direct result of the original salesperson's lack of expertise and professional neglect. Additionally, the company proposed a solution that is illegal under DC regulations, and their internal communication remains highly disorganized. Under District of Columbia law, performing home improvement sales without a proper license or executing contracts without commencement dates and salesperson license numbers may entitle clients to a full refund of the contract price, regardless of work completion. I recommend that any parties engaged with this company review their legal standing regarding these practices. Please be cautious if you decide to challenge this company. Their management called and threatened us claiming that we will run out of money before they do.

Stephen responded quickly and professionally to our inquiry, quoted a reasonable price - which fell in the middle of two other quotes. He and his crew went above and beyond expectations, including leveling off the sides with topsoil and patching up parts of another pathway. We were fully expecting to have to repair our electric dog fence upon completion, but they worked very carefully to preserve it - and took good care with our landscaping. He showed up when he said he would and finished when he said he would. We have gotten a lot of compliments from neighbors.

It is hard to find a good brick mason: someone who understands the physics of how brick and mortar…read moreworks. I know just enough about it to understand how it can all go wrong, and I've felt taken advantage of by contractors before, and so when I got to the point where I felt I could no longer tolerate the deterioration I was observing in my garage, I went to look for a mason. I asked around a lot. The boutique guys, preservationists, and artisans mostly didn't get back to me. One failed to inspire confidence. Another guy stood me up. Another wouldn't go into the city. One never got me a quote. Another guy was very nice and knowledgeable but quoted me a price so high that it had me looking at DIYing it. The search was not pleasant. Brick brothers was different. Stephen understood my concerns about the materials and the work that was needed, he showed an understanding of the principles of brick and mortar masonry on par with the fancier guys, and he quoted me a price I could actually afford. My only critique would be that the written quote lacked detail, but we adequately covered the scope of work verbally. It took two Saturdays, and I'd rough guess 48 man-hours. I'm so glad I didn't have to go the DIY route. Now the way brick goes it's probably at least 5 years before one can be certain that the work is right, but based on my conversations with Stephen and my own observations of his work, I'm confident that I'll see no spalling on the repaired areas. And having seen a few rains since the work was done, I can already report that I'm no longer seeing water infiltration in the repaired areas. So for brick repair needs, Stephen of Brick Brothers hits that rare intersection of competence and price which makes his work a great value. I would absolutely recommend him for any brick masonry needs.
