I would give this place a 3.5. It's super conveniently located next to a lot of work places and super walking distance for a ton of things in polanco. The rooms are super affordable. I upgraded to deluxe king and my room was good! The breakfast buffet was super nice and I had booked it with the room. It had all the amenities needed, heated pool and a nice gym, I used both and no complaints at all. They also have two great restaurants along with a tequila, mezcal and wine store there and a super nice bar. No complaints here! read more

One of the best hotels in Mexico City. 1) Location. You are in Polanco. You are perfectly located to mix business and tourism. 2) Service. Fantastic every single time. From reception to valet, room service, restaurant, cleaning. Everyone is super courteous, respectful and friendly. 3) Architecture and ambience. One of the most iconic buildings in the city. Modern, colorful, big spaces, greenery... Hard to describe w words! 4) Food. Five star reataurants right there. Their breakfast buffet is what you get at a top mexican hotel: flavors, options, colors. Amazing variety of fruit. Eggs made right there for you (Ask for Rancheros, Divorciados or an Omelet with your choice of ingredients). Tens of options of sweet bread (pls try at least two per seating or I will stop writing) . And a service that will check with you often to fill your cup of coffee or bring you freshly squeezed juice without disturbing. Do yourself a favor and stay here. Do a little research to learn about the building and its architect as well as the movies that have beem filmed here. Oh, I forgot... They have a gigantic Orozco in display and stores worth spending time to pick a special gift! read more

The hotel is being renovated and there is ALOT of NOISE. Jack-hammering and nail guns all day long. Impossible to relax in the room and at the pool. The hotel will be under construction for another year, so don't stay here unless you want that noise. They don't care how disruptive it is and offered no relief. Also, there is a club level type of room and it includes breakfast, and its inedible food! We've stayed here twice and will not go back. read more

Probably A Five in 1968, the Camino Real, built for the Mexico City Olympics, is at best a 3 now. When we arrived the bellman was cheery, the lobby was bright and colorful, and we had high hopes. By the time we got to the front desk those hopes were dashed. The woman behind the desk was lovely, but her English was not strong, and my Spanish is nonexistent, so she didn't understand my questions. Rather than finding someone who could better facilitate our checkin, she just toughed it out and took twice as long as it should have. The room was dark. I mean really dark. Only one small ceiling light over the desk, one dim lamp by the chair, and the reading lights by the bed. I was getting dressed and even after walking into the bathroom, where it should be really bright, i could not tell if my dark pants were blue or black. We asked twice for them to bring up a lamp, but not only did we not get the lamp, we got no response whatsoever. The bathroom was functional, but poorly designed. If you took a towel off the rack in the shower and didn't push the rack back you slammed into it when you opened the shower door. The hair dryer was cracked and filthy, and the light switch was drilled directly into the marble with no surrounding plate, and it made uncomfortable crackling noises when you flipped the switch. The concierge was all but useless. His English was just good enough that he thought he knew what we were asking, but he didn't. When we asked him for recommendations for nice restaurants he took out a map, scrawled some restaurant names on it that we couldn't read, made some x's, and told us to walk down the street. We gave him the name of some restaurants we had heard were excellent, but we couldn't get reservations. He called 2 of them, and let us know they were booked. Well, ok. We already knew that. Don't you have any connections? And given the places we asked about, he should have upgraded his original recommendations to more upscale restaurants, but no. Eventually we resorted to OpenTable and did much better. The door person must have a deal going with some local drivers. When we asked for a taxi she called up a car that did not have taxi plates, and the rate he charged us to get where we were going was thee times what Uber charged to get us back. Full disclosure, it was $10 American vs $3, but that's besides the point. And then there were the stupid little things. We are booked double occupancy with a king bed. Yet there was one bathrobe in the closet, one complementary toothbrush and toothpaste, and each night we had to do a thumb war to see who would get the one chocolate on the bed. There were only enough hangers for one person, so we asked for more hangers. Instead of sending more of the type that were already there, they sent flimsy plastic ones that were practically useless. And the reading lights by the bed are situated so that you can't get them into a position where you don't bang into them getting in or out of bed. On the brighter side, the art in the hotel is lovely. The complementary breakfast buffet was solid, and the Sunday brunch was great. It is also significantly less expensive than the places we would have chosen had we booked the trip ourselves. read more

The architecture was revolutionary and avant- garde when the hotel was build. A nice painting of Tamayo decorates one of the walls. There is a nice fragrance which perfumes the main lobby. It is a huge complex with long and endless hallways. Too many steps are on the way to the reception The restaurant at the hotel offers a nice breakfast buffet and menu. Unfortunately, we had to wait quite a long time when we arrived at midnight to get our room. Only two receptionists were working at that time and we had to wait quite a long time for our turn. We were given a room where we could hear a loud music coming from a night club on the other side of the street. We immediately asked to change room and our request was granted. The room was quite spacious. There was a small toothpaste tube with the bathroom amenities. No coffee in the room unless you ask for a coffee machine and pay for the pods. If you are looking for a romantic place: this is not the right hotel! read more

When our flight was cancelled, we ended up getting another day in amazing CDMX. I knew we wouldn't be able to extend our AirBNB by a day, and I was so happy to get a night at a hotel, but this is more than just any hotel. This hotel is a work of art, and we loved our stay. The hospitality was wonderful, the architecture was amazing, the pool was lovely, and the room was awesome. We loved all the options for food and drink inside the hotel, and the proximity to fun stuff to do in Polanco. Highly recommend this hotel. It is located in a great area and very centric to everything. Polanco has tons of restaurants, museums and nightlife. The staff at the hotel is very friendly the rooms are spacious and clean. We really liked looking at the garden and it was like an oasis inside a busy city. The toiletries are all Molton brown and you really do feel that this is a luxury hotel. We look forward to staying here again. read more

The Camino Real in Polanco is a great hotel option. It is a bit far for walking to most locations in Polanco or elsewhere, but quick and easy Uber are available. This Hotel is one of the older ones in the area, where large, luxurious spaces were standards of excellence. Although the hotel definitely is up there in age, the classic style and huge, spacious bars, restaurants, common areas, reception, hallways, walkways, and large rooms with big balconies El Camino is one of the few left and is appreciated. We loved the spaces, the room was very nice, very good size with big bathroom and the large balcony was a very nice touch. USB outlets and workspace were very nice too. All the staff were helpful, kind and wanted to assist. Although some of the spaces have aged, this classic hotel is very well maintained, and we really appreciated the history and hotel overall and look forward to staying there again. read more

This hotel is quite old. It does have the old Spanish or Mexican style to it. Very colorful. This hotel was built in the 60s and there hasn't been much renovations done. As a note: Do not shower around 8pm, water is usually luke warm to cold. The furnitures are kind of old. The rooms are clean and spacious. There are no free wifi but again this depends on how much you pay for the room. So if you go for the plan without free wifi than it's about 1990 MXN per night (wifi wil cost an extra 220 MXN per night) or you can pay straight up 2786 MXN per night or more that comes with free wifi and free breakfast. I heard from a colleague that if you sign up for their membership, you get free shirt ironing (my colleague got his shirt burnt - might not be a good idea). I had my laundry done here. They charge a lot for it and if you go 2 blocks down the street it is 80% cheaper. Food in the hotel is priced more than if you went outside and ate locally. The rooms are somewhat dark. Just not enough lights. As well the rooms are cold. My heater was not working when I moved in. But again, its not just me. At least mine got fixed after I complained. My colleague heater was broken and his was not fixable but he got a different room. Also the heater or AC is kind of slow and loud. Some rooms has a balcony door. But the balcony door is not to open. The curtains are very old style. Paid internet is not 100% reliable. You can only connect up to max of 3 devices. The internet is somewhat slow and at times not working. This hotel provides free newspapers. Also they have an agreement with tour companies, if you want to do a tour of the city than the concierge will be able to help you. Yes they have people who knows how to speak English. Other than that. The hotel is ok. Location wise it is at the very end of Polanco. Streets are very quiet and empty at night. read more

knowing this was once mexico city's largest hospital is creepy. barely one star. it is a hotel of superficialities. it looks great when you enter. hotel is a renovation site in several areas and smells of chemicals in many moo. (see pic). the rooms are superficially attractive. the beds are uncomfortable. before changing rooms, i had to put linens on the floor to sleep. (see pic.) the bed was soft, providing no support. even the second room i was moved to was bad. you can't sleep. the construction is iffy. light shines through the tops of the doors and blackout curtains. (see pics). if you get up in the middle of the night you do not have to turn on the lights. as you walk the corridors, you hear every activity in the rooms. on the street side the noise is intense. (see pic.) cleanliness is an issue. (see pic.). you may even want to wear shoes in the shower. there is no ventilation in the bathrooms. so except a fog in there and the rooms. and if you want to see construction methods here is an example. it is $200+ a night for really marginal accommodations. breakfast is about $30. the hotel did not any financial consideration for its poor accommodations. it really is a zero. read more

I've been coming to Mexico City on business for 10+ years, and always try to give my business to local hotel chains. But Hotel El Camino Real in Santa Fe makes it increasingly difficult when there are so many better choices around. For starters, the moment I got into my room I noticed someone had laid on the bed; one of the beds was undone. There were two coasters on the mini bar but only one clean glass. A few minutes later a staff member knocked on the door and made herself in; when she saw I was in the room quickly apologized and left. When I checked in I got a password. As soon as I connected my computer, it started getting bombarded with spam. The piece of paper with the password said "Dial "0" for Help Desk". So I did. The phone rang and rang. When someone finally answered she blurted right away that spam was not their problem. I said "I never get spam; it started the second I connected to your wifi." She said "please hold on." I just sat on the phone for 5 minutes like an idiot; eventually realizing she was never coming back on. The restaurant on the main floor, La Huerta, is just not good. One dinner we got our fish uncooked, and then the maitre d' tried to haggle with us over the uncooked, un-eaten dinner on the check. I just got back from breakfast: there was what looked like a convention of supervisors at the entrance to the restaurant, but no one was able to find us a table. Tired of waiting we finally walked in and started looking for an available table. The buffet had a good selection of juices but NOT one glass to pour any into. The bacon just sat there half cooked. The coffee came with no creamer, so I had to get some milk from the buffet. After I was done eating, I hung around for another 10-15 minutes waiting for the check to sign but it never came. It is such a shame. El Camino Real is such a nice hotel, with nice rooms and a great location. But it feels increasingly mismanaged. The Sheraton Santa Fe right next door has bigger rooms, excellent food and top-notch service. Although I prefer to give my business to local chains, next time I may just go there and save myself the aggravation. read more

Bunch of liars, we waited for there supposedly free transport 50 minutes they never showed we finally got an Uber.... when we were checking in we told them about our 50 minute wait and said they were going to upgrade us to a suite another lie... they gave us a regular room. Mexico is a good destination, just all the bull crap that you have to put up with.... renting cars is usually another hassle.... between trying not to get ripped off and negotiating a decent price it usually takes 1-2 hours. read more

It can be a bit noisy in the mornings, but whoever's been into Mexico, knows that traffic its a total nightmare. One outstanding feature its the fountain in the entrance that emulates ocean waves. I have stayed here a number of times for business as our client is a short walk away. This is an interesting hotel with a lot of wonderful features. If would recommend this hotel for a pleasure trip but not for business related stays. We stayed on the club level which is very nice especially with the club level amenities. Yes the rooms are comfortable, service is excellent, and restaurants are bountiful and offer excellent fare. My biggest gripe is with the wireless infrastructure. If you expect to stay connected on a stable, nimble wireless network you will be frustrated. Both myself and my colleague were extremely frustrated with their wireless network especially with the numerous disconnects and network latency. We resorted to staying at our client's site each night to complete our work. read more

This place is almost too big. An aging giant monument of "modern" Mexican architecture in the less scuzzy "upscale" Polanco district, tourism central this behemoth resides. Felt quite secure behind 25 ft walls and iron gates, kind of like a Happy prison. Loved the cool water effect with the big waves in the front motor court area, like a miniature Bellagio Mexican style., the service was very attentive and engaging. People knew and greeted me by name even though I was there just 2 nights, 3 days. The room was clean and and in decent shape, the small too familiar Mexican smell of the week was the inescapable sewer gas in the bathroom, that you sadly grow used to. Still not going to ding them a star for that. The place has about 9 restaurant @ bar venues ranging from over-priced crappy cafeteria slop, to Fine steaks, a Tapas place, a Mexican cantina, Morimoto, and more.. you can leave the compound and walk to a number of famous taquerias within a few block, which I recommend you do. A good business convention hotel, but not that high quality boutique experience by a long shot. My room was about a 10 minute walk from the front desk by way of example. read more

Great building that as of 2/2018 is half renovated. People are really great and the multiple restaurants are ok but not quite 3 star style. The area can be a bit noisy at rush hour but I felt perfectly safe walking it at midnight. Oh, and WiFi was free. Very pleased, will go again. read more

I always stay here when I come for Corona Capitol so its always incredibly busy. Theres always a mix of good and bad. The hotel is always bustling but for the most part I'm always happy with my stay. The bell man are just amazing and I always over tip them because they are just great and will go above and beyond, especially when you have something like 28 pieces of equipment and gear to store and move.. The hotel itself is massive but I Loved relaxing in my private little balcony and the area in Polanco is hard to beat. The rooms itself is a mix of 80s (purple carpet woohoo), and beautiful wood work that make you feel like you are in Mexico. I felt the bed was comfy and well sound proofed despite being off a busy street but really wish there were more english speaking channels.. I get that most people going to Mexico city aren't going to be laying in bed watching TV but well, I was tired and that's mainly what I wanted to do haha. Also the main lamp in my room didn't work so I only had the small lights by the bed. Buffet is great! But at almost $20 USD/pp it's worth it to walk down the street and get some tacos instead or walk to Pan Comida for a vegetarian breakfast. I didn't try the pool but it's heated! Perfect for winter time. read more

This place is huge and outdated but it definitely looks much nicer in person than through the pictures and very pricey for what it is. This was not our first choice but it was the hotel we could find in the Polanco area that had availability and accommodated more than two people per room. When we called to make reservations they said it was two queen beds when in reality it was two full sized beds. I have never seen such small beds in a hotel but there they were. Thankfully we are all average size and height but for anyone that isn't it would have been an uncomfortable stay. WiFi is about $20 a day for 24 hour access from the time of purchase. I believe it is pretty expensive rate for mediocre internet connection. The TV service was horrible everything was in Spanish with the exception of 2 channels and it was basic as basic cable can get. Thankfully I speak Spanish but that doesn't mean I want to watch TV in Spanish with no option for an alternative. read more

I didn't spend the night here, so I can't comment on the rooms, but the conference facilities are good, and the snacks, sandwiches, juices, and coffee In the press area were most excellent. read more

Every time I have called there I get transferred around continuously and takes multiple requests via multiple means to even get a copy of a folio, which I have still not received. I would give it ZERO stars if I could! I reserved this hotel 2 months prior to visiting and they did not have my reservation at check in. The issue took 3 hours to resolve (or so I thought it was resolved). When I checked out 2 days later they had no record of our resolution and although I had pre-paid this room I had to pay for the room AGAIN, so now I will have to deal with my credit card company to delete the charge. The costumer service is terrible at front desk, they could not care less about the issue or how to resolve it. They just wanted my credit card and get me out of their sight. - The rooms are dated and have poor lighting. - The hallways smell like toxic chemicals. Horrible service at the restaurants (Bice, service was awful and we were the ony ones there! Food was terrible considering it's Bice and Bice prices). - Pool is so warm and not refreshing at all. Service at the pool is non-existing and takes forever to get what you ask for. - Buffet breakfast: my husband got sick after eating there. - Maid walked into our room at 6:45 and woke us up. The hotel has a laundry list of issues, each of which individually are already sufficient not to stay here. It is marketed as being in Polanco - but it is not! Making it very annoying if you will spend most of your time in the true Polanco area. The hotel is also very old and not in great condition. The rooms are not consistent with consumer preferences and are showing their age. When we came to check-in our room was not ready at the time indicated on the reservation - just what you want after a long flight! The staff at the hotel, however, is probably the worst part of the hotel. Without notice, at 8 PM on a Friday evening, a staff member barged into our room without notice. When we asked management why this happened, they were unable to give a clear answer. They at first offered to make it right by comping our stay, but they quickly reneged on that promise and denied admitting making that promise - LIARS. They also offered to give us an upgrade, but their idea of an upgrade was merely a room closer to the lobby - not really worth the move. Stay away from both JULIO FRAGOSO and RITA ARENALES who are the managers - they are terribly RUDE and NASTY people - LIARS! All in all, I'd STAY AWAY from this hotel as there are so many options on Mexico City at better prices, in better locations, and of higher quality! read more

The hotel is pretty old and has not been renovated in a while but it was very clean and the service and attention very good. Rooms are spacious and clean, not noisy. The hotel has several restaurants on site, most of them overpriced, but very good quality. The service was great, room service was very good and the hotel cafeteria was very good too, although after hours they turned the music too loud. I think it is good value for the $ and would definitely stay there again. read more

Camino Real was perfect. My husband, two little kids and I stayed there for two nights over Easter weekend so the hotel was full of local tourists and families. After checking into our room 5237, which was recently redone and overlooks a very quiet interior courtyard, we switched into our bathing suits and jumped into the heated pool, which was lovely if a bit full of people. The hotel was designed by architect Ricardo Legorreta and the design is bright, modern and felt uniquely Mexican, not just another fancy hotel dropped by a corporate giant into the location. During our stay, we mostly explored Chapultepec and ate at local restaurants surrounding the hotel, but every time we returned to Camino Real during the day and night, the service was welcoming but not overbearing and we loved watching the eternal fountain designed by Isamu Noguchi while we waited for our uber to pick us up (worth a peek even if you are not staying at the hotel). We hope to return here next visit to Mexico City! read more
