I had no intention of dragging out the divorce as long as the marriage. Texas family law is as frustrating as the power grid, so I needed someone who could get the job done and represent me. I wanted a lawyer who was a woman, intelligent, direct, and not too emotional. I did not need hugs, I needed a divorce. I interviewed several attorneys to represent me. Some were nice but weak, some were rage-filled and vengeful towards the spouse, and others made me wonder what some law schools are doing with their curriculum. Alex was nothing like other lawyers. Granted, she had completed law school and undergraduate studies like everyone else I had interviewed, but she was not interested in boasting about her accomplishments (which are impressive and lengthy). As I spoke to Alex, I realized that this was the lawyer who checked all of the boxes I required and many more. She did not approach the conversation like we were part of the 300 fighting off the Persians; instead, Alex respected the fact that I wanted to keep the experience as amicable as possible. I spoke with Alex before I retained her services, and she was exactly who I wanted to represent me: female, not man-hating, direct, and an aggressive advocate for her clients. As Director of Operations, she ensures that everything flows as it should. She is prompt, efficient, and compassionate without being syrupy sweet. Katie may be one of the smartest humans on the planet. As a paralegal, she handled most of my case details. She is ruthlessly efficient, able to anticipate my questions before I know what they are, and moves paperwork through the glacially slow wheels of justice in the Dallas court system at a shockingly quick pace. Plus, she has a sense of humor, which is required when getting a divorce. If you do not laugh at some of the stuff encountered, you will cry all the time. From retainer to the "thanks for the memories" exit call, the process lasted about 5 months. The legal portion took less than four months from filing to final decree with the notarization stamp. I have friends who are still working through the process after years of issues. Alex, Brandy, and Katie were exceptionally clear when giving directions on what I needed to do, provided paperwork that needed to be signed in a very efficient manner, and always answered the emails I sent with little waiting by me. I emailed a lot, and those emails were full of questions, directions, and sarcasm. Each question was answered, directions followed, and sarcasm met with sarcasm, so we were evenly matched. I was able to keep the divorce amicable, and spent less time on the actual process than I did deciding to file for divorce. Not only did he make us feel confident in our case, but he explains law very well and does not sugarcoat anything. Period. DO NOT USE Messed up…read moreon not one, but two, custody cases. Major custody issues that were exploited by opposing parties. I don't mind paying extra for good attorneys, but I expect BASIC details to be included in basic court documents. Attention to basic, normal, details. Case one, mediation with exhusband on a child custody case to resolve harassment. In doing this, the child custody order was redone with new changes. However, they missed details and didn't include a prior agreement for dad to pay half of all child activity expenses. Ex immediately noticed the mistake in his favor after everything was sign sealed and delivered. As this was not an issue being altered, I didn't think to read to ensure it was in the docs correctly - I counted on my expensive attorneys to handle issues on my behalf. On a second child custody case with my new baby, after a 12 hour mediation and paying for AND insisting Draper attorneys do the final order docs (as I didn't trust opposing counsel's attorney), Not only did I not feel like my attorney fully had my back asking I back down just to get it over with, she didn't even include the rotating claiming of our kid on taxes in alternating years in the court order. So it had to be renegotiated after the order where he tried to claim his CPA said he was owed the right to claim each year because he made more money, but when we did agree they provided no formal agreement signed by parties just an email agreement but even then - no followup to confirm an agreement was struck BUT did let me know a bill was due. Now I'm being threatened by said "coparent" with tax audits and will have to hire an attorney and go back to court against a man who can burn money. The images attached are AFTER mediation and the court order so they can't respond and blame anyone but themselves. Or say I wasn't a client. I should have had more backbone at the time and pushed them to formally fix immediately but I was distraught, full of cortisol, and felt like a POW with PTSD coming out of mediation. AND they were still billing me making up for their mistake. Not to mention the thousands paid in activity costs for 2 kids on the other case they messed up. Just because a bunch of moms in a Facebook group tag Holly Draper because she answers free questions there (or used to) that doesn't mean they are good attorneys with attention to detail. Very disappointed as I thought the higher cost came with better attorneys.

I'm human and understand everyone makes mistakes- however, every draft to be filed had not one but several mistakes, including most importantly the first one being the name of the children were not my children at all, also I was clear I was filing a SAPCR for custody, they drafted a divorce decree. Very negligent red flags I figured were only human, however every draft from there on had multiple discrepancies. During my temporary orders hearing, while I had a very strong case against an absent parent- Mary took it upon herself to mis inform the judge and say the respondent lied on federal reports- which I told her was not false information- she completely killed my case and threw all my strengths out the window. Following that, I received no apologies or communication, just requests for more money to move forward. This lawyer doesn't have children and may advocate family law is her strength but it's very apparent that she's only in this field for the $- you'll just be another check for her.
