I feel sorry for any patients who don't have someone advocating for them because the staff here is overworked and underpaid. The nurse was responsible for 47 patients throughout her shift. The overnight staff appear to be the worst as far as care goes. If we were legally allowed to put in a video camera, we would have. The place looks and feels dirty. I'm not going into specific details about what we encountered, but if you place a loved one there, be sure to visit as often as you can to keep an eye on them. Even though we hated the place, there were a few great employees. One was an aid named Barbara. The physical and occupational therapists were kind, patient, and caring. The daytime nurses were mostly very good in spite of having too many patients to care for. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

They do NOT follow the Quaker values that are displayed throughout the community. The staff is very clicky, and they will bully you if you do not engage in their antics. Leadership, especially Nathaniel Stube and Carrie Ritrovato, is afraid to advocate for their staff, and will take you to HR whenever they don't have the courage to address hostile workplace violence. HR is extremely biased and will not protect you in any way shape or form. HR fuels the gossip and rumors, including the CEO. Staff can find out who is next to get fired just by staff by HR to gossip. Also be mindful of giving this company your personal information such as, your DOB and SS number if you do not want your medical information going around the facility. Barclay Friends is a sad place to work. Pay is also not worth the mental toll. They cannot keep good staff members who actually want to work because they are threatened by the staff who lounge around, sleep, gossip, and play on their cell phones throughout the entirety of the shift. They have lost receptionists, finance and marketing staff and activities staff. Highgate has not been monitoring response times to the call buttons. Our sister has to go to the nurses office to request assistance for a shower, and several times has either not been showered or showered alone, which she is not safe to do. The monthly activities sheet looks great, but in fact a lot of the activities listed are not done! The residents have been complaining for years about the poor Direct TV reception (analog), but despite the fact that the facility has WiFi the leadership has not pursued switching to a streaming company. Our sister is being overbilled and we have been unable to get this corrected despite multiple phone calls and emails. The physical plant is in sad shape: the dining room was closed multiple times this past year for repairs, the first floor activity room was closed for over 6 months due to leaks in the ceiling and substandard repairs, and the apartments lost heat for a few days this winter. We are actively looking for an alternative facility, which is sad since our sister has made friends here.
