Came to the zoo on Mothers Day as our tradition, and had a great time. The zoo had a great layout where it was all pretty much one direction, so you couldn't get lost, which was great for us. All the animals were active when we were here, about 1-3:30, definitely a great time to come. Wish we knew about the animal encounters, definitely will try one of them next time. Also can bring in your own reusable water bottles, there's refill stations everywhere around the park.

We've visited this zoo twice now, and both times have been generally positive experiences. It's a cute place--clean, nicely laid out, and clearly maintained with care. Most of the animals appeared healthy and well-cared for, and the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. That said, I do want to mention a couple of things that left us feeling uneasy. On both visits, the bear seemed noticeably distressed--pacing so repetitively that you could see the exact path worn into the mud. It was a nearly identical scene to our first visit, where it paced alongside the clicking electric fence. It's one of those moments that really makes you pause and question the animal's quality of life. It truly bothered my family. If it's a medical condition, perhaps there could be some kind of signage explaining that for those who stop to watch. If not, maybe it's time to consider whether this is really the best environment for that animal. Also, on our most recent trip, the young orangutan seemed much more subdued compared to our last visit. Previously, it had been playful and engaging, but this time it sat quietly with its face pressed against the glass in a seemingly unchanged enclosure (no visibly new enrichment). It could've just been an off moment, but the way it looked back at people really made us all, not just my family, reflect on the ethics behind captivity. Zoos can be hit or miss depending on timing and the animals' moods, but I truly hope this zoo continues to prioritize the well-being of every creature in its care.

Beautiful zoo for family, especially the little ones. The park is well spread out and interesting paths to explore. Plenty of parking available as well.

This was one of the best zoo visit I've had, ever. Most of the animals are out because of the perfect weather that day except for the bears because their enclosure is over run by wild vultures. It will say at the entrance too if the wild vultures are back or not. Assuming they just come and go as they please. Smaller than our DFW zoo but it's definitely worth the visit. Perfectly laid out so you won't miss anything. Bathrooms are well taken care off and animals seemed happy and well taken care off as well. Definitely recommend if you have kids who likes animals or just like me who is a kid at heart.

A zoo with exercise benefits is waiting for you at Cameron Park Zoo. March perhaps is a pleasant time to go, as it isn't too hot. Put on your walking shoes and look forward to spending between 4-6 hours observing animals' behaviors and some cute napping animals. Discover why animal conservation or rehab, especially of endangered species, is important. Into furry friends? Meet a few mammals in the felidae family close up (behind a glass), like cheetahs and lions. Get goosebumps over various reptiles. Learn about different species in the class of aves, like vultures and parrots. Chase fishes of all sorts; ones you don't eat. Fall in love with the colors of the tropical fish. Then ask yourself... are you watching them or are they watching yoooouuu?

A day at the zoo Weather was nice Animals were all out Not too crowded Enjoyed seeing all the different types

Great zoo. Well maintained, and the animals were all out and active. Parking is limited, and had to park in an overflow lot. Not too long of a walk, and it was nice to see the police directing traffic and staying at the lots. Food options, and seating is limited, best to bring small snacks in. Loved seeing the animals all out, but check the listings of what they have before going. Some exhibits are currently closed, and some animals you might expect or hope to see may not be there. Overall worth the visit.

My partner and I visited this zoo on a Saturday afternoon. I was prepared to be a little overwhelmed due to the zoos I visted being all over the place. I was highly mistaken. It was very easy to navigate, all of the animals were out and visible, and it gave more of an experience than some of the larger zoos. It's definitely a zoo catered to little ones. I highly recommend!

Hands down one of the best zoos I have ever done. The layout of this zoo was well thought out, I loved that you just followed the path & you don't miss a single exhibit. We enjoyed ourselves very much, great day date outing.

Always gotta strike a pose here, too.

Best zoo in Central Texas and easily rivals many zoos in bigger cities around the country! So proud this is in our backyard. Such a wonderful surprise nestled in Cameron Park. Has a quaint but magical playground with a fun, little splash pad perfect for littles, and fun interactive spots for kids along the way. All the animals are worth a visit but our favorites are the orangutans, the gibbons, the tortoises, and the giraffes! If you're visiting Waco with little ones (or without!), the zoo's worth a visit! The season pass is also an incredible value!

Ask the Community - Cameron Park Zoo

Are there capybara's in the zoo?

    Never seen one

    Do they accept American Express?

    It cost money yes

Can small dogs on leash be taken into zoo?

    We tried didn't work

Does the zoo have food available to purchase?

Not right now. Both the cafe and the gift shop have been closed down for a long time.

Do they have penguins by chance?

The zoo map says "future home of penguins" so they are coming, just not there yet.

What is the walking distance if you go to all the exhibits?

Not sure if you measure in miles but, it took me 2 hours to go through all exhibits without rush. Including short break.

Are dogs allowed at the zoo?

I'm certain it would be service dogs only. Having a regular pet dog in a zoo with wild animals can be dangerous for employees, guests and other animals.

The place was clean and just the right size for my wife and I. Being city folks you forget how dark it is out in the country at nights. It was nice. We signed up for these adventures to make the weekend even more fun: 1. Feed baby kangaroo(Bodhi). This was about a 30 minute session where we got to feed him a bottle and kibble. It really was an amazing experience. 2. Bucket of food and self guided feeding of animals. We walked the property and hid to feed so many animals. All of the animals were friendly toward people. They were all very good motivated. We encountered a giraffe, donkeys, zebras, horses, cows, pigs, dwarf steers, camels, emu, deer, buffalo and more. The animals were often trying to bully their way to the front of the line. The cow Oreo who has not skipped a meal was always front of the line. 3. Afternoon safari ride in ATV. This was a fun ride around the property. Did not see any new animals but had a great time. The cows out at pasture were thrilled to be fed. 4. Giraffe encounter and meal. This was a little expensive but I would spend it again. The giraffes were super friendly and personable. We wanted to take them home because they were so much fun. The guide, experience and never felt rushed made this worth it. Our guide was top notch. I think her name was Jackie but could be wrong.

Fun experience for the whole family…read more A FEW NOTES/TIPS FOR VISITING: --An early arrival is likely best because the animals will be hungrier. We came at 10am and had plenty of interaction. It seems to reason that a late arrival might offer tired/full animals that may not approach as easily. --Before you enter the safari, set up your kids. You will likely have to loosen safety standards for a bit but you're driving 5MPH so I felt comfortable doing it. I held my 1-year-old on my lap in the front passenger seat. He wouldn't have been able to see much otherwise. We also had to unbuckle my 3-year-old's seat belt so she could shift up otherwise she had trouble feeding the animals. --You're not supposed to hand feed the animals. I don't recall them telling us that but there's a sign saying it. It's hard to avoid because some of the animals will literally stick their head in your car (zebras and donkey, I'm looking at you). They're gentle and I had no issue hand feeding them. It felt necessary to get them to back off a bit (my kids got scared though, lol). The little deer were also gentle and easy to hand feed. Anything with big horns -- we definitely just threw the food on the ground. Same for the emus -- do not hand feed those -- they will chomp your fingers hard. Ultimately, they must know people hand feed some of the animals. I'm surprised they don't do liability waivers. --Watch for animals in front of your car or even swarming the side. Throwing a handful of feed away from the car helps move them away. --Get enough food, depending on how many feeders you have. We got a $10 bucket (3 people feeding) and it was plenty (with some left over for the petting zoo). We were conservative with it though. I'd say get more than you think you need since you don't want to run out. It's also helpful to have extra feed to throw when you want the animals to get away from your car. You can always use whatever is left for the petting zoo. They gave us an extra bucket (small one) for our daughter to use in the backseat. I'd ask if you want extra ones. --The goats at the petting zoo are pretty aggressive. If you walk in with a bucket, they will literally swarm you. Maybe it was because we came early in the day and there weren't too many other people there. My toddler got scared, lol. I'd recommend staying outside the gates and feeding through there or having one person stay outside to hand the feed over from the bucket. Ultimately, a great way to spend a couple of hours and entertain the kids. It's a little pricey since you pay per person (including 3 and up) but it's all good. The beautiful peacocks roaming around definitely enhanced the experience. The gift shop was a bit scarce -- could have been stocked with more items. I also wish they gave us a brochure about the animals upon entry (I saw reviews about people grabbing those at the gift shop; we had no idea they existed). Clean bathrooms and ample parking.

I said they said that the children cannot ride this any longer because the saddle is broken and then after that, they let someone Ride the horse with knowing that the saddle is broken. I did not have a good feeling about that, so I took my child far away from the horse just in case something was going to happen the bunnies, the ducks, the little chickens. The goats were very cute. Children tried to pick them up. Man said no do not pick up the animals, but the way he said it it was in the little rude way the child started to run and come to its parent at that point I came up and I said please don't speak to the child this way because mine also is playing with the animals. I spoke to one of the coworkers and said how long have you worked here and is it a good company because I have others who want to use the company for a birthday party for the children and they said yes but it's my first day so therefore I have a lot of questions because I came to this job thinking I was trained and there is no training and now I am having to tell children not to pick up the animals and they're unhappy because the parents said that they can't ride the horse so the children became very unhappy because the party was cut short. Sounds like the people who are working need more training and need to be able to know that if the saddle is broken, you need to fix it before bringing it to the party and please don't vape or smoke any other electronic cigarettes at the party because that was very concerning as adults have seen you And you are working for one of the families. You should know that there is no smoking at a child's party so your boss should've trained you better and you should know better as adult. I was very concerned when I seen the man smoking electronics at the birthday party and I have spoken to one of the parents about it and that was not allowed that was not in the contract that was signed and verbally spoken about also Safety. Concern of a child is very important. That is something that's going to be spoken about to others.
