BEWARE IF YOU HAVE A DISABILITY OR MEDICAL CONDITION! As an individual with a disability, I occasionally, am unable to participate in certain activities. Most businesses I encounter are accommodating to me and others with a medical condition. Waco Escape Room's was NOT. Immediately after booking online and paying, I then got the waiver and after reading it, realized I would be unable to participate. I called to ask for a refund and was denied and told I could only transfer my booking. Unfortunately, I do not live in Waco and don't know anyone to transfer it to. the Manager on the phone was rude and did not want to help. She chose instead to just keep repeating a policy that violates the Americans With Disabilities Act. I am sad to have to leave a bad review, but I would not recommend this place to anyone because of the way they treat folks with disabilities. Truly disappointed in the experience. read more

We entered the room with another group and conquered it. The clues were a bit vague, but manageable. Unfortunately, the walkie talkies provided for us to use when we needed a clue didn't work. Other than that, I highly recommend this activity to anyone staying in the Waco area. Not bad, Waco. read more

A group of my friends planned an escape room, one of them brought along their baby, we all checked in, headed to our escape room and then we were told that the baby is considered a player and would need to be charged the $20 to enter the room, no where on their website, terms and conditions, or even at the front desk was there any information that a BABY is still considered a player and would need to be charged the fee, only information I can find in their terms and conditions regarding children is: "Waco Escape Rooms requires players under the age of 16-year be accompanied by at least one adult, per game room." If all escape rooms are like this then I advise the company to make it crystal clear what age is considered a player for their business. read more

I have been here several times. I had friends coming in town from Oklahoma. So we decided to take them. We did the sports one. There were 8 of us. The first time we ask for a hint they sent us the hint that we had already completed. So we tell him we completed that. Then he tells us the code spelled out to the lock we had already opened. Then we say hey we opened that. Then he tells us the next step to go to. We tell him the clue in my hand shows something else and he finally tells us that is for a diff puzzle at the end. I ask him for the time back we wasted just convincing him where we were. And he said no he's not giving me any time back it as my fault. 8 ppl in the room and we were all confused by him. He also never apologized. When it was over and another man came in the room he basically just wanted to argue with us and give excuses on why the other man did not know where we were. Basically the experience was ruined and all he had to do was make it right. give us the 5 min back that he spent not knowing where we were and we continue to move forward. But, no. The we ask the guy how close were we to getting out and he points to 1 more puzzle.....which did not even use the Pool Balls from the puzzle from the clue we asked for to begin with. So either the kid lied to us about what was the end or he did not care to really explain the room. THEN he had the nerve to say we will have new rooms coming in the future like we were happy and would come back. WOW is all I had to say. WOW I will never come back. Super fun time with family! Paralysis was very difficult but we did it! Wow we need clues! Have done multiple rooms over time and really enjoy them. The scavenger hunt is not challenging if you use google. Also we used the car instead of walking due to the heat and we're done in 10-15 minutes. read more

Was okay... I've been to plenty of escape rooms and this one was pretty disappointing. The staff was nice but the room it's self was not. Very plain and not decorated and simple puzzles that didn't really go together. It just seemed like an empty room they threw puzzles in and it just didn't work. read more

1/5 stars. Could have been SO much fun, but the props were broken upon entry and we wasted about 30 minutes on the second clue bc we asked about the broken items and they said not to include them. Then when asked for the clue, we needed to include those items..... BS. Once we figured that out, we flew through the rest. I wish I read the reviews for Dinner for Two before wasting my time here. We got their early and was brought back to our room right away which was nice. However, after asking for our first clue things went downhill. We had to wait 10+ for our clue and we had to ask several times. This happened with other clues as well. It became extremely frustrating. I felt because we were only a room for 2 people the staff there focused on bigger rooms who paid more money. When the time ran out I thought that we would be given some extra time because of how long it took for us to be given a clue (clues that we had already solved as well). However immediately when the time ran out we were immediately made to left the room even though so much of our time was wasted waiting for clue. It just felt so disorganized and I would not recommend this room to anyone. I have done other escape rooms and this was by far my worst experience. read more

My wife and I have done about 80 escape rooms all over the country with only a few failure to escapes. My family and I did two rooms a few months ago here and they were meh. Mastaba and Code Breaker. These are very much gen1 type rooms where it's mostly just manual locks, nothing really fancy (whereas later generations have more electronic locks, magnets and such). We were entertained but it wasn't amazing. My wife and I happened to be back in Waco and decided to do the Dinner for Two. The room is pretty terrible for a couple crucial reasons, echoed by other reviewers on here. 1/ the final clue sequence is illogical and convoluted. We asked the room master who said no one has ever escaped without a clue on this puzzle. That's because the puzzle is stupid. There's a difference between difficult because it's a random sequence of events and difficult because it requires you to think. This is a puzzle that is quite stupid, which makes it difficult, but not fun. We have had to use clues in 95% of the rooms we do, but most of the time you get the clue and go DUH! But here even after she explained the puzzle at the end of the game it was just stupid. 2/ I can't give away the puzzle but the final puzzle deals partially with colors (warning if you have someone who is colorblind like our friend who usually does rooms with us). I was looking specifically at a color that she swore wasn't there. The puzzle must have been designed by someone color blind. I've only been to one other escape room with this blatant of a mistake in a production room. That was in Hawai'i where on the ceiling they had some black light lighted sticks they had mistakenly arranged to form a 2 instead of a 5 or something. We have been to a lot of good rooms and a lot of bad rooms. When you do 80+, and 35ish in the austin/CTX area alone, you're bound to hit them. I have no issue losing to a really difficult but well thought out room, like one we did in Illinois. I get royally ticked off when a room can't even get a color correct, or puts together intentionally stupid puzzle that no one has ever escaped without a clue. The other two rooms were entertaining enough without bothering to leave a negative review but tonight was definitely the last straw. read more

The Hall of Fame isn't even an escape room, it's a room full of puzzles. We got practically zero explanation before going in. Apparently we were supposed to switch rooms after the 30 minute timer (which wasn't even working or attempting to be fixed) was up. I took my mask down for 10 seconds for a picture with my siblings for my sisters birthday and was told "We wear our masks" like a preschooler. Zero explanation on puzzles we understood but couldn't get the locks to open on. Don't waste your time. read more

Disclaimer: Dinner for Two is NOT a room for first time escapers!!! I have completed dozens of escape rooms and drove down from DFW for the Dinner for Two room. Very excited to see a two person room so had to go and try it out. Place looks great when you walk in and professional for the building they are in. I actually enjoyed about 75% of gameplay. There was one puzzle that desperately needs to be replaced as it is so faded I ended up seeing what they wanted me to see only after a few minutes of looking at it. Definitely a simple room with no electronics, and if it was left at that this would be a 4 star review. At one point in the room we asked for a hint, in which they replied asking if we had opened a certain lock. We had opened it... Ten minutes earlier. Proving they weren't really paying attention to us, slightly irritating but not a deal breaker. Now the worst part of this room is the very last puzzle. This requires you to have outside knowledge of the room in order to complete it which was the first frustrating aspect. The next part was truly irritating beyond measure as the finishing touches to this puzzle really made no sense and was complete crap. You had to pull information from multiple different places, where there was no leading or logical connection between the pieces of information (not to give anything away) you needed to gather. We literally spent 17 minutes on this puzzle and the help they were giving was obviously not working. We managed to escape with a few minutes left still but never understood how the puzzle actually worked. Until the last puzzle, the experience was ok inside the room. This also comes from an experienced players prospective because on their website it says this room is great for first timers; definitely NOT the case since the room runs under a 9% success rate. Our group has done several escape rooms and the Mastawba was by far the worst in terms of theme/puzzles/layout. 1. When we asked for clues- which you are only allowed 3 for the leaderboard - they gave us clues to things we had already figured out- so the clues were worthless and a waste of time. It's like they weren't paying attention to what we were doing at all. If you're going to limit clues, make sure you're not wasting our clues on stuff we have already done. 2. Compared to all of the other rooms we've completed- this one had SO MUCH stuff to do to get out. Like if you make it out of this room in an hour, props to you because it's crazy. 3. This room is a lot of like physical stuff versus puzzles. If we didn't have a person with long arms we would have never even gotten through the first part. We literally figured out what we needed quickly but spent like 20 minutes just trying to get the thing down because we couldn't reach. Also, make sure there's at least one person in the group who is not claustrophobic. When they told us what had to be done to get out, we would have never made it anyway bc of what you had to do. Again, it should def be more about puzzles and decoding VS physical stuff. 4. It's SO DARK you can't see a thing. If you wear glasses or contacts and/or struggle with seeing at night- this room will be a royal waste of your time. You'll spend more time trying to read stuff in the dark than actually figuring out what to do. 5. The theme was all over the place, there was no backstory or anything to go with it. Out of all the rooms we have done, this was by far the poorest designed and planned out. Staff was friendly but they were not as interactive and fun as the other places we have been. It was more of a get in, get out vibe. Hopefully the other rooms here are better but we definitely won't be back. read more

We got stuck very early because we could not get a key off of a hook in the adjacent room through the doggie door. Three different people tried to slide the key with our rake for about 20 minutes while the rest of our frustrated group sat on the ground miserably waiting because the key was necessary before we could proceed to the next step. Finally, an employee came in and threw the key on the ground so we could retrieve it. This cost us big time and we did not escape on time. We knew we could have finished if we had not lost so much time on that one step. It was a very off-putting experience and we left feeling dejected. read more

My friends and I did the mastaba room today and before we went we were talking about how we wanted to beat it and get on the wall for first place. This would have been an excellent time for the business to inform us about their poor record keeping. However, we went into the room and escaped beating the first place team by 6 minutes. We were then informed they had our friend Megan down for having done that room a year ago. Megan never did Mastaba, she was signed up for it but her friends and she switched to code breaker and did not do Mastaba. Unfortunately, no one ever switched her waiver or had her sign a new one and no one changed your files/records. I understand the rule of not letting people do the same room twice however, it is not ok with me to be called a liar and a cheater by the manager. In addition, Megan was able to explain the code breaker room in detail that she did complete. Also, don't you send an email saying "you completed X room?" I have never experienced worse service and respect from a manager of a business before in my life. The manager we talked to was very belittling and not at all sympathetic with our situation. You guys lost several customers today not due to the rule but due to the AWFUL management and service we received. I will be informing all of my friends in Waco to not go to Waco Escape Rooms. You guys should really consider new management and better record keeping read more

If a zero could be given, that would be the rating. One of the clues was a tape recording. Our team spent eight minutes trying to understand what the clue was. We played it over and over again trying to understand what the person was saying. We even wasted two clues over the recording. Finally one of our team mates took the recorder up to the staff at the front desk and asked them to make sense of it. They stated that someone must have recorded over the clue. We told them the amount of time we wasted on a dead end clue, however they only offered two minutes back to us for the wasted time. The room was sparse of any kind of engaging elements. One review asked how inventive the room design was. A four year old could have given more imagination than what was afforded this room. There was a locked cabin, top and bottom, a trunk, a tool box, a mirror, and a table. That lends no evidence to "Waco". The staff wasn't rude, but they did not want to help in any way whatsoever. We will not visit this business again. It will be worth the drive to go to Killeen instead. Poor customer service is an understatement for this visit at this establishment. read more

My son and I went to do the Dinner for Two. We arrived early and the staff took us back to the room early. So that was nice. However, he started the game for us when one lock was broken & told us to start anyway. When he came back into the room to replace it, it really was a buzz-kill as it totally disrupted our thought process and immersion in the game. When we got to the end of the game, and were excited that we solved the final clue...... but we were extremely frustrated when the code was not set up correctly to let us "escape". We asked the staff to explain it, and he couldn't. Just told us we did not do it correctly. So, we asked again for him to explain and he could not. Then he realized it was, in fact, set up incorrectly. He never apologized or anything and left us with a very bad taste in our mouth for the experience. My son was frustrated and it pretty much ruined the outing. Again, no one ever even apologized for this happening!!!! read more

The experience here was no exactly what my friends and I expected. We tried the Waco Room, which focuses on using the 5 senses. Within the 60 minutes we apparently didn't even get halfway through. Most of the issue was that the room was very linear and we had to work on only one thing at a time. And each thing took nearly 10 minutes. Other escape room places are detailed but often you can split into teams and work on different puzzles. My main issue was the comment that the woman made to us after we failed to escape "Well you'll just have to come back and try it again." Which tells me that they are more concerned about having groups fail and come back over and over than making it an enjoyable experience where you can actually escape. I have been to about a dozen escape rooms and while this one is fine, there is definitely some improvement needed. Pros: Friendly front desk staff Easy booking/waivers Nice facility Cons: Tiny room Misleading difficulty Poorly designed/overly complicated puzzles My buddy and I were looking for something to do for an hour on a Saturday so I booked us a room here. I have been to a dozen or so rooms before but his was his first time. The booking process was quick and easy. I chose Dinner For Two since it would just be the two of us and it was advertised on the website as "Ideal for first-time escape roomers." I later found out that room has a 9% escape rate. That is expert level - hardly ideal for first timers. (On an unrelated note I was told another one of the rooms there has 4% success rate. Holy cow! I have never heard of a success rate that low. Sounds like that room needs to be retooled.) The check in and waiver process was quick and easy and the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Our room guide gave us a quick run down of the rules and some tips about locks and then left to start the clock. She seemed like she would have rather been anywhere else than at work on a Saturday. The room itself was tiny and self contained. With as large of a facility as they have, I expected layered rooms. There is no good place to lay out your clues and current items you're working on solving. Sure, there's a table in the middle of the room, but it's covered in dishes that they tell you at the beginning are only for decoration anyway. The first few puzzles are easy and get you in the flow of things. Good luck if you ever get stuck though - the puzzles are very linear and don't really allow for solving multiple things at the same time. Also, the locks are all the same, a 3-5 digit number or a key to open a padlock. Boring. Give us some interesting lock mechanisms or cool gadgetry. You know? Pull a book on a shelf and a picture frame across the room swings open or something? Anything other than another padlock. Maybe this is just a personal preference, but if all your locks are going to be padlocks, at least don't provide multiple locks of the same kind at the same time. For example, if my group cracks a code or solves a puzzle and we get a four-digit numeric code, there should only be one four-digit numeric lock available to try that code on at that time. I shouldn't have to try the code on 2 or 3 locks to figure out which one the code goes to. Some of the puzzles were not cohesive - there was no way to know that this went with that. All that said there were some very clever ideas and some really cool puzzles. I don't know that I'll be back. read more

It seems like the rooms are last minute since they aren't fully built to the ceiling. You can hear everyone else around you screaming and working on their puzzles so it makes it difficult to focus. The lighting was not good therefore on the first puzzle you couldn't see the yellow marker used. I wasn't a huge fan of the fact that you don't get a story line video before the puzzle starts so you aren't really sure what's going on.... again, seems not very put together. Wasn't a huge fan of the fact that you just unlocked a bunch of locks and didn't do actual puzzles. I've done many escape rooms and this is the worst experience I have had. read more

My 11 year old son and I participated in the Escape Room this past weekend while in Waco and had a total blast!!! We have never done one of these before and this was a fabulous experience. We are out of towners who wanted something fun to do when we got into Waco...looked up these guys, called and came in 10 minutes later for their "Dinner for Two" escape room. This was our first time doing an escape room, but not the first time we've ever heard of them....I've been dying to go, just haven't pulled the trigger. All I can say about this experience was it was SO MUCH fun. The staff couldn't have made this experience easier and smoother. Staff was super friendly and we had such a great time (even though we didn't make it out in time).....would definitely recommend this for a date night, group activity or family activity. They have rooms to accommodate just 2 people or groups up to 10. read more

I've been to several other escape rooms in my homwtown of Denver and when we decided to go to Waco and found that there was an escape room it was definitely added to our list. We did the Dinner For Two since it would just be the 2 of us. As we started the room the first several clues were relatively easy and we thought we were blazing along. Without revealing too much info, the next one was extremely difficult and didn't make any sense with regard to the clues before it, so we struggled mightily on it and finally decided to ask for a clue, which was no help. We then asked for a couple more and then the worker barged into the room and asked what we needed help with and walked us thru how to solve it. We had all the clues we needed for it, but given the lack of cohesion with the other clues we would have never gotten it. But it was very offputting to have him just barge in the room and walk us thru it. Never had that at any other escape room and never want it again. Turned off the whole experience. We finished a few more clues and then hit a point where the clues we needed to finish escaping the room required us to know very specific information that we couldn't have already found in the room. And since we didn't know that information escape was 100% impossible. Escape rooms are great, but they have to be 100% logical within their own room and if you need to know specific facts before you enter the room it's just a complete fail to me. Of course with 2 minutes left in the room the guy came back in and walked us thru how to solve everything else. We were literally only 2 clues away from getting out, but there was 0% chance we would have gotten there on our own, given we didn't know that very specific information. This probably would have been a 3 star review if he hadn't come in to "help" us. 5 stars if he hadn't done that and we didn't have to know that information. My husband and I decided on this activity for our 20th wedding anniversary and we had A BLAST!! We played the "Dinner for Two" room and it was more challenging than I anticipated but still fun. I have been to many escape rooms around Texas and I was shocked/disappointed by this place. Upon reviewing all the reviews from a couple months ago I see a pattern happening where people can't finish the game because 1) poor room design: You can only work on one puzzle at a time. Also their puzzle difficulty is not well suited for people who are new to escape rooms. 2) poor hints given: This may depend on the host that you will get but the one that we got gave us hints to the puzzles that we already completed. It felt like the game host was not even paying attention to what was happening in game. 3) hints left us confused: one of the hints straight up displayed on the screen that we are "wrong" ( wow! Such an amazing hint!) To our game host: look up the definition of what a hint is and should look like, and what we were provided :) 4) poor puzzle design: I saw a review from a couple of month ago experience the same thing in "dinner for 2"where they couldn't finish the game because from the get go the puzzle was set to failure. They had two months to fix the issue but never did. Truly shows how much they care about your experience. To end it all our game host possessed low quality in customer service. He was rude, couldn't/refused to explain to us why their puzzle was wrong, and never apologized for their wrong doing. The only positive reviews on Yelp for them are from parents stating that their kid or their group had fun. Just save your money, time and nerves and go do something else. This is the worst escape room service I have been at and I don't wish it upon anyone else. read more

First time at this location. It is by far the cheapest escape room I've been to in Texas. There are 4 themed rooms and one being a 2 person only room is a nice, cute feature. There is ample street parking and a large parking lot directly across the street. The employees were friendly and welcoming. The 4 stars is for the online booking. The room I booked was "Mastaba" at the time of booking there were only 2 available time slots. When we arrived we learned the room usually for 8 people would be conquered by 2 people. This particular room required all 8 people to escape because there were so many cryptograms to decode and 2 people are unable to do it in 60 minutes. Well my partner was a first timer with no clue so maybe if I was with someone familiar with what to do or good at puzzles chances would have been greater. So, no we did not escape. Back to the point of the online booking. There should be booking slots specifically based on the capacity of the room to make people aware of actual available slots mainly because there are options for large group bookings and 2 person booking. It would help the novice decide which room to book. Would definitely return. Oh, the clue button in the room had a delayed response and did not automatically stop the timer when pressed which wasted seconds waiting for the clue to pop up. Not a significant delay but every few seconds count times 5 free clues could mean a couple minutes wasted. Overall, good experience. read more

This was my second escape room experience, so I don't claim to be an expert on the subject. Myself and 4 family members did the "Mastaba" room. Personally, i didn't really think it was as fun as it could have been. We had a total of 8 people to start with and the first room was pretty small. I thought a lot of it was redundant in which we were doing the same thing over and over. There were several times where our team members were wondering around aimlessly as other team members tried to figure out puzzles...there just simply wasn't enough for everybody to be actively engaged during the whole experience without being on top of one another. The guy working there wasn't unfriendly, but he also wasn't the most friendly guy in the world either. Overall I had a fun time, but this place could be much improved. read more

I just recently tried mastaba. It was so eerily detailed and the atmosphere made it a ton of fun! My group and I really enjoyed the puzzles and the horror-y feel to them. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, giving us just the clues we needed to push forward through the room and eventually escape. I thouroughly enjoyed myself and am eager to try some of the other rooms. I will most certainly be back and highly recommend checking it out if you're killing to spend an enjoyable hour doing something different. read more
