Getting there was very straightforward, but cell reception is very limited there. I was prepared with offline maps so that didn't bother me. The road takes you right to the entrance of the park. There's an unattended booth up front, but I self-registered myself at the check-in station over to the side. There was a pen provided that I used to fill out one of the forms, and dropped it in the locked box with my information. I came here to hike to Gorman Falls today. Part of the road that leads to the trailhead was flooded, but I was able to drive through it with a standard SUV. The road was rocky in some areas and gravel the rest. A high-clearance vehicle isn't needed. There was plenty of parking at the trailhead, along with a restroom with a composting toilet. The trail was well-marked and shaded the first 1/3 of the trail. The rest of the way is exposed to the sun until you get to the fork in the trail that leads to Gorman Falls. There is a bike rack here as the last section is hiking only. The rock face is quite steep towards the bottom, but there were ropes that guided me down. I had my dog with me and I had to carry it at one point just to get down. Because of the rains this past week, water was flowing at the falls. You can't hike to the falls, but there is an observation deck with some benches to relax in the shade here. Returning back up the rock wall was easier than the way down. I also stopped by the park headquarters, about 5 miles down from the entrance of the park. They had a nice selection of gifts and souvenirs for purchase, and plenty of brochures for nearby state parks. The only option for camping here is primitive; there is no plumbing available, other than a spigot for potable water. Overall, this park was well-maintained and I would return for a second visit. Being just 1.5 hours away from NW Austin, Colorado Bend SP makes for a good day trip option with little traffic to and back.

Gorman falls I feel like is the most popular. There were so many people there! We saw the water fall and got to walk along the river bend. Then we went to the spring trail, that place was magical! It looked like a hobbit home!!! E we made it to the spring, but sadly you are not allowed to get in it. Finally we made it to the spice trail, but we were barely able to make it out in time, it was not a good decision, we did have to hike-run about 2 miles in the dark, I was freaking out. So message to all it's make sure you are not hiking too late because it waspitch black. Luckily we had outdoor flashlights and made it, but it felt like it was never ending. The trail is awesome, we crossed over the river several times, it's like a maze to get through, and the top was beautiful, but yeah we didn't get to enjoy the last two miles. Overall this was an awesome park to visit! I'm excited to keep exploring Texas parks

I find it offensive that Mike F, who appears to be a pompous camper relates price to the residents in a very arrogant fashion. Most of the people at this park are elderly and live on a fixed income and are appreciative that the pricing has not shot through the roof like many other rentals out there right now. Mike F clearly is a cheapskate individual as he must have searched for the least expensive place around and then wanted a refund and was refused. I am okay with the last sentence as we like to keep this place a secret. Not sure how he even found out about it.

Rather than take an unguided 1.5 mike hike to the falls we waited for the park ranger guide at 2pm. The hike was probably only about 25-30 minutes. If you are older ,or in anyway disabled this is probably not for you. The end of the hike is steep and slippery even with a guide rail. Small children will need help navigating down the worn rocks. Upon arrival at the falls expect to be amazed. The waterfalls are 60ft tall and go into the Colorado river. The area takes you back in time and allows you to be one with nature. One of the best kept secrets in Texas. The park is located on over 5000 acres and was privately owned until the late 1980's. I can't believe someone was lucky enough to have this all to themselves for so long. The park just started offering tours of the falls I believe in 2000. The park not being state owned for very long and being out in the middle of nowhere is very primitive. Their are several biking and hiking trails at different levels of difficulty and length. Some have water sources that must be traveled to continue. Other activities include kayaking, camping and fishing. The website for the park is very thorough in listing activities and costs of entrance and camping. The ranger station has ice available which is great being that you are about 30 minutes away from anything. All the Rangers were friendly and really seemed to enjoy their job. The only downside is the toilets weren't great and the distance from San Antonio but I would love to come again in the summer or spring to see how the waterfall changes with the flora and fauna being dense and in bloom.

This is a update to my first post for Bare Foot Fishing camp and RV Park…read more Two friends and I just spent three days there. We was Upgraded to a very good site by Frank and it was much better then the original one we were going to get. ' We did not ask for a up grade but was offered it. It was really nice. We were PRIMITIVE camping so did not use a shelter or RV part of the camp. ' We had plenty of room to each set up our tents which were all 6 to 8 person each as well as a separate shelter to use as a Cooking/ Storage tent for our food etc. ' Fishing was not very good as we did catch a few keepers but most were in the 6 to 8 inch range. That I think is because the water level in the river i a little low and I think we missed the White Runs up or down the river. There were a Lot of BIG Carp in the area but neither of us care for carp. ' We do plan on going back again. We met some very nice first time campers there. ' The restrooms/showers are very well kept up. They are old but well maintained and MORE then enough VERY HOT water. ' I am including some pictures. I do not know ho many Yelp will let me post but I will post what I think my be appreciated. ' This is a upgrade from my original post as when I did it we had only done a quick drive through to check it out. ' Also we went during the week to avoid the Crowds and weekend party bunch. It was Nice, Peaceful and Quiet. ' If you are to picky and looking for a 5 star resort this is not it. It Is A Fishing Camp and Kayak Camp. Not a resort to go to if you expect all the comforts of home UNLESS you bring your RV. ' It Is Rustic and a great get away. There is NO PHONE or Next to NO CELL or Internet service but they will notify you very fast if they get a Emergency phone call for you and they do have a Emergency Courtesy Phone there. ' I am including pictures of the Ladies rest room / showers as I know that something the ladies all want to know about. Other pictures will be of our cam set up and some I took of the area and the Main Kayak Launch site. ' I recommend IF you are going on a weekend to be sure and make reservations in advance. Holiday Weekends get full really fast and you may end up way out in a primitive camp site if you don't. ' There are 50 Tent sites and some have a metal shelter just in case you need it or want it and others are just like it says,, Primitive, with just a Table and Fire pit. ' You will need to bring your own fire wood if you want a fire as there is NO STORE on the site. The closest is outside at the turn for Barefoot/ State park and San Saba cut off. If you are Military they do offer a Military discount for active, retired etc. Be sure and ask about it. All three of us are retired mil and from Killeen, Temple, and Copperas Cove who went Kayaking there for 3 days and had a great time even though fishing was not so good at the time.
