For just slightly more than the passport photo machines (those ones you see dotted about in shopping centres/outside supermarkets etc) you can have your photo taken in the shop by the gentleman who works there, see the images and choose which one to buy. He ensures that they are of passport standard, and won't be rejected for a passport application. I found him friendly enough and it was great value for money as well as peace of mind that your photo is up to the necessary standard.

They seem to have a relatively intuitive nature about them which makes then sufficiently customer focused to talk to you with the right level of technical information. In short they don't bamboozle you with things you don't understand but it's clear straight off the bat that they know their stuff. Their range of stock is good too though leaning more to the digital side of photography, they have in store development facilities and stock a selection of frames. Which is not only ideal for those of us who are so proud of our shots we want them framed, but also good if you just want to do justice to a print. Price wise I've found Centre Point to be surprisingly cheap for a shop of its nature. You can doubtlessly find most of the stuff in here cheaper on line or in some of the bigger chains but considering the level of one to one advice available in here I think you buy into a little more than just the camera.

Although not necessarily the cheapest place, if you like to 'try before you buy' - essential for a good camera, I think - this is a good place to go. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable, and the range of stock is huge. I didn't feel pressured into buying, nor did I think that I was made to feel like an idiot for asking basic questions. They have an excellent web-site which is worth checking before you go, as it lists whether items are in stock, and they will honour their web-site prices in the shop. (NB The deals on the web-site are often better than published in their adverts in photographic magazines). It's only 15 minutes from Brighton by train, and then a ten minute walk. There's another shop in nearby Hayward's Heath.
