I walked by the shop several times while on short visits to Brighton and unfortunately always found it closed as it was either late evening or Sundays. So glad to have arrived early and had a chance to walk in and be treated to a wealth of knowledge on vintage cameras and service with patience and a smile. Amazing service. Popped in with a old film camera I found in the attic and not used for over 40 years. Had it checked overed and given details on how to use the camera. Would highly recommend. Run by two devoted film and photography lovers, it's a treasure chest of equipment from high specification manual, zoom and digital cameras to old super-8 and cine video cameras. They also sell lenses, flashes, tripods, film, instruction manuals and yes, they offer fast turn-around services for colour and black and white film too. Clock Tower Cameras is the complete antithesis to somewhere like Jessops. Its a small, friendly old fashioned camera shop where you could spend ages just gazing through the window at the mass of second hand cameras and lenses on offer. The two chaps that run it are so helpful and friendly, this may be due to the fact all the photography students flock here at the start of their courses to grab a cheap film camera and some advise how to use it! I've popped in many a time with a faulty flash gun or jammed camera and expected to pay a huge repair bill but most of the time they can fix it there and then in a matter of minutes. If not, they offer free estimates and then send it to a third party for repair. Their website offers a list of inventory. I shoot on Canon and have picked up a couple of fantastic lenses there that were a real bargain. Also, they still have a good stock of 35mm and medium format film in stock. read more

I am shocked by all the good reviews for these people online. Clearly they are written by buyers, not sellers. Now I will write the wrong by telling you how unfairly this business does its transactions. When I came in with my excellent condition Sony RX 10 iv, to sell, I was initially given a price of 550-650. Then their 'expert' came back the next day, listing a litany of issues with it that would warrant a valuation of 550. Even though I knew how unfair this was, I stupidly agreed. I came back the next day and to my horror there was my beautiful camera being sold for well over 1k in their window. They took me for a mug and made a 50% profit on my misfortune. So much for the local friendly camera shop. These guys are sharks. If I had sold it on my own I could easily have got its true value of 850 - 1k. These liars took me for an absolute mug and I believe strongly in karma. I hope that people will see the truth and the camera will rot in their very dusty windows for all eternity as a reminder of their falseness. read more

This is a fabulous shop for the camera enthusiast, they have a huge range of SLR's, expert tripods, various lights and flashes, lenses and sundries. They also fix things (say if like me you have dropped your camera and got the lens cap jammed) which you can either wait for or pick up later depending on the job. If you're a first time buyer, just go and ask the guy, he knows everything ever about the SLR and will help you find your first piece of equipment whilst avoiding spending a fortune. I've only ever bought a few little accessories here, but each time it's been a positive experience. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, setting the shop apart from photographic and electronics chain stores. A lovely selection of vintage cameras too and there is always a display of secondhand cameras and lenses on display. read more
