The small selection fit the size of the shop, with a few shelves of unique, and slightly pricey shoes along the side and front wall. Along the back hung a selection of high-quality printed t-shirts, usually on for £25, but now on offer 2-for-1. The sales clerk was quite friendly, greeting customers as they entered from behind the counter. I can't see myself doing much shopping at Flawless, but for those with particular tastes, I would recommend it.

Think box-fresh sneakers, tee-shirts, sweats, hoodies and jeans with clever logos and urban designs. The menswear is upstairs and the womenswear downstairs with a carefully selected mix of skirts, dresses, jeans, sleeveless tops and shirts. Besides their own threads, they also stock labels like Surplus, Iron Fist and Red Mutha. To complete the look of youthful rebellion, there's neat sunglasses, baseball caps and accesories. I bought a selection of bulbs early spring and some tools for my new garden. They even sell pots and containers. Not sure why I don't buy food or toiletries much here. The stock is rubbish and the whole place smells overwhelmingly of cheap chemicals and cat food. Where as Poundland actually sell brand names at cheaper and reduced prices, this store sells pure trash. The giftware section with candles, stationary and storage boxes verges on criminal and the cleaning equipment looks and smells toxic.

Well, I understand why some of the stock is put outside - the shop could not possibly contain anything else. I could barely walk through the door and assumed it was just a crowded entry way but, um, no. Things were everywhere, not categorised into any sections and leaving only the tiniest space in which to walk to the back. The best example: an end table sitting tentatively atop the jewellery case. I was nearly laughing by the time I snuck back out - I wasn't expecting such an adventure.

This is a real sort the chaff from the wheat kinda place...good luck trying to do that too, as everything is finely balanced, crammed and stacked in to every corner- move one item and it might all come tumbling down like a house of cards! Outside there is usually a selection of plant pots, mirrors, clothing and other odds and ends. Sometimes there'll be a real gem and sometimes it will literally be old junk, but everything will be reasonably priced. Inside really is worth a look too...there's books, furniture and more. I love the place, but it's undeniably the more commercial, touristy of the bunch, meaning they can inflate their prices. The Brighton Flea Market in Kemp Town: great for furniture, but I always feel a little like I'm in a museum as I walk around, which discourages me from committing to a thorough, full-on bargain hunt. Enter the North Laine Antique and Flea Market! I really enjoy browsing the shelves of the various rooms in this place. Unlike in some antiques shops, where I feel resigned to the fact that most items will exceed my budget, I know I will always find something here. Be it a velvet cushion cover or a ceramic tea pot, there is always something to tempt me, and at a reasonable price. My last visit yielded a £1 plant pot and a beautiful little painted dish. If you're after a mirror or kitchen or living room furniture, check out the second room, full of wooden cupboards, shelving units and kitchen tables. Like most antiques shops, items aren't categorised, but thankfully there isn't so much stuff that you're tripping over yourself to get to things. Top tip: you can often find cool shoes and some great vintage leather handbags. It's all luck of the draw of course, but well worth a look!

Tucked away on Upper Gardner Street, this two storey building is accessed down a ramp and makes you feel like you're entering another world. There's the occasional modern item like a Michael Jackson poster or a recent pop annual but the majority of the space is taken up by chairs, desks, tables, lamps and unusual decorative items from the 1930s onwards. I often spot things I like here but rarely buy anything because most of it is too old fashioned or chintzy for my abode.

Sadly, Brighton is so small it doesn't have anything on the scale of Foyles in London or The Strand in New York. It does however, have quite a lot of quirky new and secondhand bookshops dotted around including Kemp Town Bookshop. A firm favourite with locals, it's an independent bookstore spread over three small floors. There's sections devoted to everything from art and travel to sci-fi, crime and childrens books. I can see they clearly put time and energy into the stock but alas, there weren't any books in the contemporary fiction section that I loved the look of and hadn't already read. Other book lovers should note, there's a cafe on the top floor selling coffee, juices, smoothies and snacks and they run creative writing workshops and events throughout the year. Just a shame there was no new Walter Mosley or Lorrie Moore books for me!

If you're after a newspaper and a pint of milk, Three 2 Four scores on both counts. If you're looking for something hale and hearty however, there are much better late night stores in the area - like Buy 2 Win. A lot of the the brand products like Heinz tomato soup, Ambrosia custard and Mr Kipling cakes seem significantly over-priced whilst the biscuits, bread and tinned food tends to look more cheap and cheerful than appetising. The alcohol and freezer section also veers more towards economy purchasing with flurescent alcopops, giant bottles of cider, four packs of strong beer and frozen ready meals.

Took my Son on Sunday, 12/04/24. He wanted a bowl of Cheesy chips which was ordered along with…read moreadults food and drinks, A young blond girl served us and we sat down outside. When the food arrived my Son, who is far from greedy said there was not a lot of food, when I looked at the bowl of chips there was barely a third in it with some cheese thrown on carelessly. We waited a minute for the drinks to follow and when they didn't I went back in to enquire as to where they were. It was then I noticed the young blond girl who had served us now sitting at one of the tables on her lunch break with an overflowing bowl of chips! No guessing why my Son was left with scraps then! We won't return.
