My son has gone there for the last year and a half and if he hasn't complained to me about when he goes to the dentist they must be do something right. I was soon led back to my tech's room to begin the fun, and I do have to admit, this was not a bad dentist appointment. Christy quickly got all my teeth x-rayed and started in on cleaning them. A bit of a different touch was they have small TVs that you can watch while they are working on your teeth. I understood my son's question last night when he asked me what I was going to watch during my appointment. Christy is a great dental tech who's been doing her job for 11 years and man does it show. She's very efficient and not to mention didn't make me wince once while that sharp metal object was in my mouth. Once Christy finished up in came the dentist, Amanda Littlefield. She was very personable and took a minute to kind of get to know you before jumping right in. Once she was done with her exam Christy finished up with my fluoride treatment and I was out the door in one hour and ten minutes. Not too shabby seeing I had to get a full round of x-rays done. I wish I could say I'll happily return in 6 months for my next cleaning but I'll be back in about a month to fix a filling that my former dentist did about 8 months ago. I won't be thrilled to be back in a month, but at least I feel my teeth are now in good hands.

First, she said I had not provided my insurance information. Then she said I had provided the wrong information. I had already provided all of the necessary insurance information, including a copy of the front and back of my medical insurance card. The confusion appeared to be that my medical and dental coverage are administered by different insurance companies, even though they use the same Member ID and Group Number. Once Ashley allowed me to explain the situation, I clarified that the insurance company had already confirmed their protocol: the provider's office simply needs to call the provider services 1-800 number to verify coverage and obtain any needed information. Despite this, Ashley repeatedly refused to make the call and instead told me, "You do it," more than once. Throughout the interaction, Ashley raised her voice, accused me of interrupting her, and shifted blame rather than trying to resolve the issue. She also refused to provide her last name when I requested it. Ashley initially told me the manager was present while we were speaking. However, when I asked to speak with the manager, she then said the manager was in a meeting. These inconsistent statements caused me to question the accuracy of the information I was being given. Ashley also stated that Alex the manager approved of how she handled the situation. Throughout the interaction, I perceived multiple microaggressions and felt I was not treated with professionalism or respect. Patients should not have to argue with staff to have standard insurance verification procedures followed. I hope management reviews this interaction, provides additional customer service training, and ensures staff follow established insurance verification protocols instead of placing the burden on patients when the insurer has instructed the provider's office to make the verification call.

He fixed a major gum bleeding issue I had using a laser device and since then, I have been walking in the paths of Dental Righteousness. He accepts the TRICARE Retiree Dental Plan, but he is not in their network. Despite prodding from TRICARE, I am more than willing to pay the additional cost of Dr. Schillinger's care because the Dentist-in-a-box places (cough-Heartland Dental-cough) don't offer the same care and concern. I asked them if they could file the claim for me in October, and if insurance wouldn't cover it, I'd be happy to pay out of pocket. They refused to even try to file the insurance claim, stating their "policy" tells them not to. I understand being worried insurance won't cover the appointment, but I'm angry at the fact they wouldn't even try to file the claim without a good reason, especially when I told them I would assume the risk. I also think the front desk was unprofessional in saying she'll let me speak to another receptionist but then turns around and tells me to go to another dental office. A few years back I was forced to change dentists due to the fact that Spring Valley was out of network for the dental plan I had through my then employer. After a recent bad experience involving not one but two teeth which landed me in the ER, many sleepless nights and pain beyond description, I called Spring Valley in desparate need of assistance. Thankfully Devin answered the phone, and the compassion and professionalism she has shown to assist me with appointment and authorizations has been excellent! Devin is a very valuable member of the Spring Valley team! Much to my surprise, Devin informed me that Spring Valley IS in network with the dental insurance I now have, and was able to schedule me the same day with Dr. Jon Owen! Dr. Owen (along with Dr Adam Diliberto (An Excellent Endodontist/Swansea IL) worked to reverse the previous providers missteps (which were many) and thankfully all previous dental missteps have been corrected, and I am totally pain free!
