Marquis On Magnolia - Wide open area great for weddings

Elegant and understated like many of the buildings…read morealong Magnolia, the Marquis fits right in and creates the perfect atmosphere for a one-of-a-kind party. This isn't an enormous venue; but you can comfortably fit 250 guests. There's a gorgeous spiral staircase that leads to the main level, as well as a glass elevator. Super-tall ceilings, a spacious wooden floor, and giant windows make for a wide-open, ethereal ambiance. It's pretty majestic. The Marquis offers different wedding reception packages (including dinner, wedding cake and cake cutting, linens and glassware, centerpieces, an event coordinator, wait staff, and security) from anywhere between $17 and $54 per guest. You can also have an outdoor party, ceremony, or reception outside (for 50 guests max). I didn't get a look at their outdoor space, but based on the inside, I'm sure it's wonderful. I attended a wedding ceremony and reception here a few weeks ago, and it was pretty awesome for the wedding party and bride to come up that beautiful spiral staircase, emerging into the center of the room before they walked down the "aisle." Very unique and dramatic. After the ceremony, guests went downstairs for hors d'oeuvres and wine while the staff rearranged the upstairs from ceremony seating to reception tables, chairs, and a dance floor. It was a beautiful wedding and the Marquis on Magnolia really made it extra-exceptional.

3.5 Stars = 4 Stars location / 3 Stars food…read more The layout of this venue is great for small to medium groups. The ballroom is on the 2nd floor, but there is also a glass enclosed elevator. It's a U shaped space that allows for food service on 1 side long side, seated dining on the opposite side with dais & dancing at the short connecting end. Soaring ceilings adds to the majestic and formal ambiance of the historic location. The curving central stairway makes for a unique grand view of the wedding party making their appearance by ASCENDING into the party space rather than a more typical descend; it made for great photos! I attended a wedding at this venue, so I'm guessing that they cater as well. The appetizer buffet was well presented and the offerings were prepared to the best expected. I don't think it fair to review the main meal since the wedding party had an extended photo session; therefore the food was served after a long time in warming mode. But, if you're planning a wedding or special event I would definitely encourage a consideration based on just the location, especially if you live in Fort Worth.

It was one day after the Japanese Garden exhibit so there weren't a lot of people around, but the gardens were well maintained. The shuttle buses are helpful in getting to the far away parts of the garden. Our favorite part was the visit to the butterfly exhibit. They were releasing new butterflies and the staff was great with sharing information about the various species. I've been to other butterfly exhibit, and this was the most active population of various butterflies... Al displayed beautiful creativity of our amazing God! Would be better to have a bus stop at or near the gardens. Would have liked to see more flowers there... The rose beds were likely better a couple weeks before our arrival.

The noise level was extremely high...we literally had to yell just to have a conversation with each other. Service was also very slow. It took about 15 minutes just to be acknowledged at the bar, and close to 30 minutes to actually receive a drink. When I finally ordered, I told the bartender to make her favorite drink. She made something that included raw egg whites (which I later learned is common in certain cocktails), but it wasn't mentioned or explained at the time. A few hours later, I became very sick...vomiting and dealing with what felt like severe food poisoning all night and through the next 24 hours. After looking into it, I suspect it may have been related to the raw egg used in the drink. Just something to be aware of if you're ordering drinks like a whiskey sour or anything that may include egg whites. After getting our receipt (which you need for the speakeasy entry code), we checked out the speakeasy portion, but the vibe there wasn't great either..pretty must the same as the other part of the bar. We ended up leaving within about five minutes. Overall, the experience didn't live up to the hype for us....between the noise, long wait times, and how we were treated, it just wasn't enjoyable. For comparison, the bar next door, Archibald, felt much more welcoming. Maybe regulars have a different experience, but as first-time guests, we were not impressed.

Originally, we were hoping to have a wine cellar that could accommodate 50 people. There isn't one in Ft. Worth. Then we remembered a fantastic dinner we had at The Bastion not long before. So we called Chef Chandra and asked if she was available to host our party of 50 on a Saturday night. Luckily for us, she was available. We made an appointment to meet with her and discuss our celebration. Chef was very patient and understanding of our wants and desires for our big night. She offered tons of ideas and thoughts about food and all the options we had available to us. Since The Bastion does not have a LWB license, we supplied our own favorite wines which saved us a lot of our budget allowing us to go with a higher end hors d'oeuvre menu. She came up with a perfect menu of hors d'oeuvres that encompassed all our favorite foods. When our big night was upon us, we were beyond excited to celebrate. The waitstaff rotated around our party offering full tray service seamlessly. The night went on perfectly and we couldn't have enjoyed the special day as much anywhere else. From beginning to end, The Bastion delivered professionalism, integrity, and perfection. We now try very hard to attend as many regional tasting dinners The Bastion puts on regularly and there is always new and exciting flavors to enjoy! The Bastion is a Fort Worth gem!! Thank you Chef Chandra and staff!
