I visited Calvin's Cleaners out of convenience--location, location, location, right? They had one star on Yelp...from 7 years ago. They have two (more current) five star reviews, both short and disqualified by Yelp's AI. The one star review was a little confusing, mentioning a drop-off in Athens and a pickup in Ardmore, yet this location isn't really Athens (technically by mail delivery perhaps). Maybe they moved? I decided to give them a shot. Besides, seven years is a long time for a legitimate one star business to survive. Nestled at the corner of Capshaw and East Limestone Road, the sign on the door says "Same Day Service." That concerned me a little because this time I was actually proactive (for a change) and not in a rush. I didn't want to pay more for same day service when I didn't need it. Not a problem, though--their default service is a 48-hour turn around. I dropped off on Monday and was told with confidence that I could pickup Wednesday afternoon. That works for me as long as the dry cleaning time doesn't turn out days late like many Amazon deliveries :). I dropped off a suit, shirt, and additional sports coat for cleaning. Starch on the shirt for crisp creases that stay. They gave me two pickup tickets (one for the suit--my son's) and one for the sports coat (mine). Very observant of them! Friday visit--I wasn't notified that my stuff was ready for pickup, but it had been ready as promised. Small-town, the lady remembered me. I had my tickets, but didn't really need them to pickup my stuff. The suit, shirt, and coat was $22. They did a fantastic job on all articles. I'm a happy customer. I am giving Calvin's Cleaners five stars because 1) I like to shop local/home town, 2) they did a fantastic job, 3) very convenient location, 4) decent price, 5) good customer service, and 6) somebody needed to start the process of making right on the travesty of a one star Yelp rating. There are several Calvins Cleaners in Athens. I've used the one on North Clinton Street with good results, including alterations, at that location. I've used this location several times, too, again with good results; however, it was strictly dry cleaning. The staff are friendly, they do a fine job, and your items are ready in a timely fashion. I think they have another location on Lindsay Lane. Now that I'm fulltime teleworking from mi casa, my work wardrobe consists of "work pajamas" and occasionally, sweats. Suffice it to say, I don't use the dry cleaners like I used to. I'm disappointed by the service of this local Athens store. When you drop off items, you are given a reference number for your items, but not an itemized list of your items nor a number documenting the amount of items that you have. The customer is also not told the cleaning fee of items at time of drop off. When I picked up my items, I noticed an article of clothing missing, and when I notified the store I was met with a harsh attitude and was told adamantly that this item of clothing was never brought in because it was not logged into their system. There was no way for me to hold the store accountable, since the ticket I received at drop off only has a reference number and not an itemized list of items included or amount of items dropped off. Essentially, it's their word against mine. When I questioned if the item may have fallen off the counter or gotten mixed up in some other person's order, I was told that this store has never made an error and has a 100% percent success rate. This was an expensive item, and I was not met with grace nor compassion. While the items received were clean and well done, I do not recommend using this store for their lack of professionalism and empathy for their customers. read more

Dropped three items off in Athens to get MINOR tailoring done on a Monday. Was told they would be ready at Ardmore by 4 on Thursday. I was out of town and went in the following Tuesday morning. Only two of the three items were there. They "thought" the third item would be in Tuesday afternoon drop off. Could not pick up the two items because they did not know what to charge until the third item was done. Called at 4:15. Third item not done and no idea when it would be done. They told ME to call the Athens store. Then informed me that one of the two items that were there had not been done. Finding myself another tailor, quickly! read more
