I don't need to use a cleaners very much since I'm now retired and only need to have bedspreads, drapes and an occasional coat or suit cleaned. When I pulled in to leave my very expensive white comforter, dust ruffle, pillow shams, draperies and valances, I discovered new people from those who were working there earlier. I was a more than a little skeptical when they told me they had been there about 2 years, but I left the items anyway and hoped for the best. When I took all the pieces out, I was delighted to discover that the quality of work was outstanding, there was no shrinkage or damage of any kind. Cleaning prices are high every place, but quality cleaning is not guaranteed and I considered this to be a bargain when my property is returned to me in mint condition. It is very convenient to pull into the carport and have my items placed in my vehicle, the ticket brought to my window to be paid, and being treated in a courteous, professional manner. read more

There is an old saying (that you always pay for what you get.) IMO this cleaners is pricey. But they are quality cleaning. They have a drive through window which I find very convenient. I can find cheaper cleaners but I have to wait more time. If u want it tomorrow then pay the price and go to Gates. Very convent located across from Kroger. (Paid $31 to have 8 shirts cleaned and starched. At drop off, Lady told me pickup tomorrow. But she did not total my bill. Next day I got the invoice. So when I dropped the jackets off the lady up front was not the friendliest. Then my husband picked up our jackets and he came out and said she had a bit of an attitude because he didn't know what phone number I used. Yet he had the ticket she gave me to use when I picked them up. His jacket was fine. Mine had the fluffy collar pinned to the side of the jacket. They had ripped 4 out of 6 buttons off and I had go buy new buttons and sew them back on. We just paid full price for a damaged jacket??!! DO NOT waste your time driving there unless you want to pay full price for damaged items. Shame on them!! Hopefully they do not stay in business with that kind of customer service. read more

I went here Friday afternoon, right before closing, to drop off my father's suit for his funeral. I explained that I needed it ASAP, since I needed to get it to the funeral home Monday morning. They said that it was no problem. I showed up early Monday, a couple hours prior to the pick up time on the ticket, and it was ready early. As I get out my wallet to pay, the lady working the counter said "no charge." Confused, I asked "no charge?" And she explained that since it was for a funeral, there wouldn't be a charge. I was extremely impressed! I don't live in Madison, but If I'm ever in town again, in need of a dry cleaner, I'll definitely be coming here. Gates is a class act establishment! read more

I absolutely adore the people that work at this cleaners! Dee, the Manager, is amazing and guarantees my husbands work uniforms are perfect and exactly how he likes them. She even checks them before we pick up to make sure the sleeves are creased and heavy starched, and the pants are to our expectations. If they are not, she resends them and fixes them to match what he needs. The prices are a little on the higher side for dry cleaning, however you can't beat the customer service. The employees here are always super nice and will do anything to make sure your order is correct! I am so glad we stumbled across this location! For two complete police uniforms, it averages around 10$, shirts are around $2.50 with extra starch and creased sleeves. I have had a winter coat of mine cleaned here for around $12. All of our garments are done perfect! If you are in the search for a great dry cleaners, check with Gates, stop in after lunch and see Dee and she will make sure you will never have any problems! read more

Both times I have used this cleaners and have been "very disappointed " I asked for heavy starch for my dress shirts and it seems that I only get light starch.. They are extremely over priced ! I spent $12.45 for 5 dress shirts ( laundry) ! NEVER AGAIN! read more

First time and last time I used Gates. I took a black and white Sunday Suit to the cleaners. They destroyed my suit. My black suit was pressed. I went back twice to correct the problem with no success. I left disappointed because they should not be in business, if you don't know how to take care of a black suit the doors should be CLOSED. No stars. They damaged 3 of my shirts and claimed they were not responsible. There were 2 that had holes in the sleeves. They claimed it was wear and tear from sitting at a desk. The shirts did not have holes in them before I took them to the cleaners. I will obviously never use them again. read more

I've been a customer at Gates for at least 20 years. I have never had people look right at me, ignore me, and refuse to even talk to me when I am the only person there at the drive through. What's more, when I called, the lady on the phone was rude. It was a good 20 years but I think it's time to find someone who actually wants my business. read more

Gates has a problem with quoting one number for an alteration, and then when you pick it up, the number has been inflated. My husband took a coat to get the sleeves altered and was told how much it would cost him, but lo and behold, when he went to pick it up, the cost was DOUBLED!!! When he complained, he was told that the issue would have to be addressed with the manager, but when we called to speak with the manager, she wouldn't return our call. When we called later in the day, she picked up the phone, told me that she was there when my husband came in to have the measurements done (she was not), and that no one quoted him a wrong price. He must have misunderstood, she said. I explained to her that the coat was given to him and he had price quoted other places and would not have gone with them had he known what they would charge him because they were higher than other cleaners and he did not want to spend that much on the coat. Her name was Dee and she told us we were out of luck. She was very argumentative and her attitude was "we got your money this time, go somewhere else next time." And that we will! This is the THIRD time that this has happened at this cleaner over the years, but until now they've corrected the bill. I don't know what's going on there - if they actually have a price list.
