My Jimmy Choo Nightmare -- A Cautionary Tale I splurged over…read more$700 on a pair of Jimmy Choo sandals. Seven hundred dollars. For that kind of money, you'd expect exceptional quality, right? Wrong. I wore them exactly ONE time, and the sole was already worn down. One wear. Let that sink in. So I called their customer service, and that's where the real nightmare began. For two months -- TWO MONTHS -- they gave me the runaround. They refused to replace the shoes. They refused a refund. Eventually, after endless calls and emails, they graciously agreed to repair them for free -- even though at first they wanted to charge me for the repair of their own defective product. Then they handed the shoes off to UPS... and UPS lost them. For a month. After yet another month of back and forth, the shoes were finally repaired and returned. And the cherry on top? Their idea of compensation for this entire ordeal was -- wait for it -- a whopping 10% discount on my next purchase. My next purchase?! There will be no next purchase. Ever. Let me be clear: I paid luxury prices and received dollar-store customer service. Months of my time wasted, zero accountability, and an insultingly small discount as a "sorry." Suit jackets and more aren't really strong here, but then again, I'm usually here for a cheap dress shirt, tie, pants, sweater, or polo.

The apparel has the most stock in the store, followed by shoes. Prices are decent, especially because items are have discounts between 30%-70%. The store is clean and tiny. Several associates walk around the store to keep things in order and help customers with different questions. The checkout area is super nice with all red wall in the back. Multiple registers were open when we were at the store, so there was not much wait time.

It made sense that it was on the rack because it was the only collared shirt if it's kind left, and also a XXXL size, usually larger than average consumer. One associate told us it was on the incorrect rack, and that it belonged to the collard shirts 20% off, but it wasn't similar at all to any of the shirts on that rack. When we asked for price, they wouldn't just scan the shirt to tell me the price. 2 associates kept telling us off the top of their head as 20%, while associate was adamant that it was in the correct section of 50%. When we checked out, the younger caucasian man, who told us the shirt was in the wrong section, rang us up. It was all so shady, and in retrospect, I should've just placed the shirt down and came back another time to confirm with a supervisor. I will be escalating this issue.

Polos were $119, though at some discount depending on the pattern. Definitely not too far from the regular retail, though, so I'm not sure coming during regular times is much of a deal. What really threw me off was the way items are labeled. On the price tags will be a number written in a thin marker. In literally every store I've ever been in when this happens that means this is the new price. Right? You've seen this everywhere: original price is the printed price on the sticker, the new discounted/sale price is the one written by hand on it. Not at this Barney's, so you can imagine my feeling of ignorance when I went to buy some very expensive shoes for $400+ dollars only to find out that this hand-written number is the **location** of the item in their storage and not at all the price (which was twice as much, and how could I not know that, and have I ever even *bought* couture before??") Needless to say I was embarrassed, which is never the way you want customers to feel, in the GAP and certainly not in Barney's. It's an easy fix: either add another sticker or recode your storage system to include letters so that we never confuse the written location with the written price. The number on these shoes written in bright green pen and the actual price (which was discounted, to be fair) in a faded print probably from its original display. The salesperson wasn't rude, but clearly I needed to learn about Barney's practices, and Barney's did not need to learn about mine!
