James came to my home, carefully assessed everything that needed to be moved, and provided an estimate based on my actual belongings and the fact that they were being moved from a three-story home. The estimate was accurate, transparent, and never changed at any point during the process. The team was flexible and accommodating with my moving dates, making what could have been a stressful experience much easier. I also really appreciated their "one household per truck" approach. Instead of waiting a week and a half - or even longer - for my belongings to arrive, my delivery took only as long as it took to drive from Oregon to Arizona. The moving crew was outstanding - diligent, conscientious, courteous, and genuinely pleasant to work with from start to finish. I especially want to recognize Justin, who truly went above and beyond. He stayed in contact to keep me apprised of the status of the trek. After driving from Oregon to Arizona, he unloaded the truck in the intense Arizona heat, working tirelessly without additional assistance. Throughout the entire process, he remained positive, professional, and incredibly helpful. He carefully reassembled furniture that had been taken apart for transport, placed every piece of furniture exactly where I wanted it, and made sure every box ended up in its intended room. When I asked for advice on furniture placement, he was even happy to offer thoughtful suggestions. Moving across states is never easy, but Cal's Moving & Storage made the experience as smooth and stress-free as possible. We were moving cross town in West Linn, no more than 2 miles away. I had someone come out and look at our house 4 weeks ahead of time to review all the furniture we needed to move. They said this was between a 3-4 hour job which should cost $1300-1400. Sounded great to me. We also talked about start time - I said we needed to be out first thing in the morning because we had to be out of the house by 3pm on that day, and he said we were the first job on the docket and that I'd get a message from the team that morning, but that estimated arrival time was between 8:30am-9am that day. On the day of the move, I called at around 8:45am to say that I hadn't received a message confirming start time, and Evan in customer support told me I should get a call soon. That call came at 9:05am, at which point I was told that they'd be over around 10:30am, maybe as late as 11am. They eventually showed up at 11:20am. I asked Evan and others from the team if there's anything they could do to help me given that I had been promised an earlier team. The only response I got from the two people I talked to and from the team was that it was a busy day, and they had no one available, and despite the deadline I'd previously told them about, I'd have to wait. Once the team arrived, they took over four hours to move the furniture OUT of my first home. I'd originally been told they should probably do the entire thing in 3-4 hours, but over four hours before they'd be able to even get everything on the truck. I suspect this is because of the three movers sent, only two did anything. A third mover, Miguel, moved some chairs, and not much else. While moving my dining room table, he dropped it and damaged the corner, and after that, didn't spend much time doing anything other than moving cushions and then standing around and folding furniture pads. The other two guys moved pretty much everything, but I was charged for three movers the full day through. While moving out of the house, I had a bookshelf damaged, the dining room table corner was dropped (an extremely expensive table gifted by my parents), and significant damage was caused bringing a sleeper sofa downstairs. I have pictures of all of these that I can share, and will need to know your policy for dealing with damage caused to the home as we were moving out, as the new owners of the home are seeking to charge me in order to repair the damage. The movers showed up at my house at 4:15pm to begin unloading the truck. In doing so, they ran over a mailbox station, destroying three mailboxes in the process, and meaning that my first introduction to those three neighbors was apologizing for my movers running over their mailboxes, which was lovely. Once they were here, I spent the entire time helping them move because I knew I was being charged by the hour. While Miguel sat and folded furniture pads, I helped move couches, tables, and fridges. Significant damage was once again made to a door jamb when moving the couch into the room, despite the fact that I had shown them how to bring the couch in and ensure that it didn't scratch the doorway. There was minor damage done to the stairwell too, though with it being minor, I understand that some things like this happen. The damage to the door jamb was significant, and to a brand new, freshly built house. In the end, I was charged for 7 hours and 30 minutes of work from this team. The email that was sent to me at the end of this has a timestamp of 6:38pm, which was 7 hours and 18 minutes after the team arrived. This means I was charged for extra time, and charged for the 45 minute lunch that the team took as well. I went through Cal's to try to get this remedied. They sent a handyman to fix the damage to my home and the mailboxes. Mailboxes look good, the damage to the home is still noticeable but better. Never heard anything on damaged furniture, including radio silence after leaving a voicemail and another email, and never got any response about the mover who I was charged for who didn't help much. read more

These guys damaged literally everything of value in a local move from one side of Portland to the other. Scratched furniture, broken glass, damaged art, lost items, crushed items, missing parts. I have lived in 11 States, moved with the good the bad and the ugly and I can honestly say this was the worst of the worst. I would be happy to furnish anyone with photograph's of the damage, talk to anyone anywhere, if that would help to determine a choice regarding a moving company. It's now weeks later and still these people have not made any settlement offers of anykind. Not a penny. Nothing. They are silent with me after several attempts to negotiate. Our move included a fridge and artwork, both discussed during the virtual walkthrough and included on our proposal. The crew they sent waited until all of our stuff was loaded and our fridge half disassembled, so we had no other option (fait accompli) but to continue, before informing us they were not comfortable proceeding further with the fridge or artwork for fear of breaking both. Note that we paid the requested premium for replacement cost coverage for the scenario of accidental breakage/damage. We attempted to call the office to figure out a Plan B on our fridge, which we obviously could not move with our sedans, and received no reply for three business days. Out of options, we hired one of their competitors to move the fridge. Said competitor had it moved out of our house in under 20 minutes. That's less time than Cal's crew spent complaining that they could not move our fridge. Time during which the hourly "meter" was running. Cal's finally called us back, three business days after we first reached out pleading for help in the middle of our move. They decline to make us whole on the additional expense we absorbed moving the items they committed to moving when we hired them. They further decline to make right any broken items, stating, "You didn't buy enough insurance." We were asked how much to buy and requested the value of our household items. The same valuation our insurance company has. Apparently we were supposed to pay on weight instead of value? They admit we were never told that, so essentially this was messed up by both sales, support, and the work crew, yet they still decline to make us whole. All they'll offer us is $500, which does not come close to making us whole, and they'll only offer that if we do not leave an honest review of our experience. We will be pursuing a claim through our credit union, for goods/services not rendered, though we desperately wish that was not necessary. I cannot in good conscience recommend these guys. We were throughly bait and switched. They could have declined the fridge based on the virtual FaceTime walkthrough, which would have allowed us to hire their competitor from the outset, saving everyone (including them!) a lot of stress and aggravation. :( read more

Giving them 2 stars because the movers were great, but management and customer service were disappointing. Also, expect that whatever the estimator quotes you will likely be inaccurate. Even the movers mentioned that this happens frequently. There is clearly a training deficiency and a lack of communication across the organization. As someone who spent much of her professional career in hospitality, I can confidently say they do not handle customer concerns well. 1) They changed the time of my moving appointment less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time. If you've ever moved, you know how stressful last-minute schedule changes can be. 2) The movers arrived later than the revised arrival window. The movers asked us for details about the job because they had not received any notes from the estimator. They didn't know what they were moving, whether there were stairs, or any other important information. 3) I was quoted for a 3-hour move but was ultimately charged for 5 hours. The movers even commented that this happens regularly and that it's unfair to customers. 4) The estimator told me the movers would simply carry everything to the new location since we were moving less than 500 feet away. Instead, everything was loaded into a truck. This was yet another example of the estimator and moving crew not being on the same page. Lastly, a colleague recommended this company to me because someone they knew had been referred to Cal's. When my colleague mentioned the referral, they received a 10% discount. I asked the estimator whether I would be eligible for the same discount, and he said yes. The discount was never applied, and now no one has responded to my email requesting that it be honored. I'm not sure who manages their general email inbox, but they don't seem to respond to customer inquiries. Again, the movers themselves were hardworking, professional, and courteous. Unfortunately, management and customer service need significant improvement. Based on my experience, I would recommend considering other moving companies in the area. read more

I am a black, female, disabled veteran on a fixed income and was relying on this company to do right by me. They over promised and under delivered. The refrigerator and priceless artwork that they committed to move during the walkthrough were not moved, as the movers who showed up were not prepared. Tried getting a hold of someone so they could find another mover, or another time to move these itmes, but they ghosted us. We had to hire another company to move the rest of our items! We left several messages, voice, text and email, and they ignored us for 4 days. When they finally did get back to us, they did not make it right, nor did they attempt to make it right. They wanted to buy my silence so I would take down my one star review for a measly $500. Knowing good and well it cost over $700 for the other moving company. Am not happy at all. Do not use this company. They will lie to you and steal your money! read more

Cal's was scheduled to move my relative's furniture into their new assisted living facility. Pick up a handful of furnishings at their big house, delivery to their new place - just a one-bedroom apartment worth of stuff, bed, dresser, table, console table, a dozen packed boxes? It's even a short trip for them from A to B. Simple, right? The coordination was performed by one of my siblings. That was on the books for yesterday afternoon. No notice was given that they would be late. Then they were hard to get in touch with. Then we got in touch with them but couldn't get a straight story. Today when I called I got in touch with Cal's "customer service" - a voicemail inbox. They won't be moving my relative's furniture today, either. They are scheduled to do the work tomorrow, apparently; whatever *that* means. He has no bed, no dresser, etc., and has had to stay in a temporary "respite" space that the facility holds available for emergencies. Things happen, plans fall through. There are all kinds of ways to solve problems but Cal's Moving & Storage selected "none of the above". The scope of failure is complete. I honestly expect them to cancel the plan for tomorrow. Certainly I expect they will not show up on time, or will otherwise somehow botch the job of moving a near-trivial amount of furniture from one place to another. You should hire Cal's Moving & Storage for someone you really, really don't like. read more

Do not hire! The movers were not good. They delivered my furniture to the wrong address. I kept waiting for them and called to be ask where there were. They had the wrong address and had to go back to retrieve my furniture. I then watched the moving truck drive past me and then called again. They said they couldn't remember the address. I finally got my belongings after calling them a third time to remind them of the address. These guys were a third party you hired to move my things and they were clearly on drugs. read more

I have used Cal's Moving Service literally four times and they just moved my sister-in-law for number five. I moved twice with them in 2020, and again twice in 2024. Each time they were friendly, efficient and professional. Even when it was an incredibly long day and I asked them to move some furniture around that I wasn't sure where to put, they could not have been nicer. The sofas were carefully wrapped, the floors protected, banisters protected, and doors covered with moving blankets. These guys are awesome. I would hire them again in an instant! read more

I went with Cal's because they seemed to be the least expensive. It also meant they did the least amount of work. Yes, I was not 100% ready for them, but they left a lot of things they should have taken. There were still boxes in the garage, as well as a bookcase. They forgot about the kayak, so I have to find other ways to move it. In addition, their truck died at my new place, and they had to jump it. The guys were nice enough, but they stacked most of the boxes in my office, even when they were labeled where they should go. I will say, though, that they had amazing patience when my move date kept changing through no fault of my own. They were able to fit me in the very next day when I called them. read more

The company said they would take off money but charged my credit card immediately, after I talked with them, for the full amount! I do not recommend them at all. read more

Super easy to communicate with and schedule a move! My partner and I moved from Salem to Gresham back in November, but my partner ended up working the day of our move. Saul and Zack arrived by 9, I showed them where everything was and what large furniture we had. Saul started moving boxes right away, while Zack wrapped and protected anything large with plastic and moving blankets. Both of them were super friendly and worked efficiently. The whole apartment was packed in the truck by 12. When we arrived in Gresham by 1, they separated the boxes by rooms as marked, and asked for directions on where to put large items like the couch or our dressers. Which was so appreciated and meant much less rearranging afterwards. The truck was unpacked by 2pm! Of course we paid for travel time and hiring movers is never particularly cheap, but it's definitely worth it to have all of your items transported safely and damage free, without having to do much other than give directions and input.
