$10 for a passable hair cut. I got what I paid for, more or less. Let me explain: they must have magical mirrors in there. She finished the cut, and though it wasn't what I had shown her on the picture, it looked decent enough. "Oh. Okay," I thought. And then, I got home and checked to make sure my hair hadn't been horribly deformed on the ride back. "Oh. Oh no," I corrected myself. The longest part of my hair was cut in a straight line, while my layers were not. That same part was also about a noticeable inch to inch and a half longer than the rest of the layers. Ironically, the cut was shorter than I had wanted. I fixed the errors myself, so I basically look like I did before the cut, but with a rounder face (because longer hair supposedly makes faces look skinnier. Sucks for me, then). Hey, look! I'm Asian Shirley Temple. So, why the three stars? One because the lady was nice enough, very polite, and seemed to care very much about the fact that my "hair is so dry!!!!!" *dismayed*. Another because it's so freaking cheap for a woman's hair cut. $10? My guy friends have paid double at other places to have their hair cuts botched. The last one because I can't really come up with a reason, but they're better than a 2 star place. Or I'm being nice. In conclusion, I'd come back. It was a decent haircut. this place is like everyone described a hole-in-the-wall. but a hair cut is a haircut. the lady wanted to chop my hair 3 inches shorter than I wanted... but after I laid down the law, and we compromised on an inch shorter than i requested... my haircut was done pretty quick. less than 20 minutes. i'm thankful she listened to me, instead of deciding for me what I want. not all folks will listen. read more

Today my sister and i got our pedis done. We always come her to get our nails done. Usually they do well and they listen to your requests. However, today wasn't a good day and because it wasn't good, i dont think i will ever come back here again. First off the ladies that were doing our nails were rushing. My sister kept telling the lady how to fix her french tips, instead of fixing it she just kept saying that no it looks ok. My sister put up a little fight and then she finally kind of fixed it. When my sister told her to make her tips a little thinner, lady says "WAIT WAIT I ADD COLOR FIRST" (note: the color was clear) LOL. After that my sister just wanted to just get out of there. The lady that did my nails was also doing the same thing the other lady was doing only difference was, when i was telling her how to fix my french tips she just kept saying ( NO NO THEY LOOK THE SAME) *Sigh* THE MOST WEIRDEST THING HAPPENS NEXT!!! My sister and I were ready to pay, the lady that did my nails told us, the charge was $14 (what we usually pay). Then another worker yells out "no $17. $14 for regular.... $17 for french tip). Then the workers started getting confused about the price. As the workers were talking amongst themselves, my sister and i just started at them for about 5 mins. and they finally came to a decision to charge us $17. I came in for a quick and dirty trim, and got exactly what I expected. I didn't have to wait long, even though I just walked in. The cut itself only took 10 minutes, and cost $7. Can't complain about that price! As for the quality of the cut, it was a simple trim, no layers, no fancy shapes. Im a pretty simple girl when it comes to my hair. I usually have long straight hair with a bang and I just wanted to cut off the dead ends and add some layers. Usually when layers are added, the back of my hair looks like an upside triangle and it looks like I have no hair. So I asked for straight hair on the bottom with layers and my request was granted. I hate to sit down for 30 mins to an hour for a hair cut. $7 and less than 10 mins, I don't mind getting a haircut every other day :). They do not keep talking when cutting your hair like most of the women do in other salons. The man who cut his hair had a limited grasp of English, and couldn't fix things. This wasn't just a case of not liking the style. I had to trim stray pieces when he got home, because his hair wasn't cut properly. These were pieces that were missed, so they hung down, sort of like when a little girl has her mother trim her bangs, and when it's combed differently, stray pieces of the wrong length appear; As soon my son got home, it looked obviously wrong. He went there because the woman who cut his sister's hair did a satisfactory job, and she went there because my wife did. So there are clearly women who work there who know what they are doing. But unless you go to a specific person who was recommended to you, you are taking a chance. read more

I got my gel shellac manicure and pedicure here couple days ago with Van. I sure was beyond happy with the result . The prices are cheaper than many places in San Jose . Shellac is only $22 & $15 for a pedicure. Van really took her time to create the shape that I wanted which was oval. I really dislike places that rush their customers to move on to the next one; however, it was not the case here at Calis. Being a hair salon that specializes in mostly hair services , Calis offers a variety of nail polishes. I was impressed with their OPI, essie, China glaze, and other brand name selections. Stay away from this place. When I pointed out that i needed the stylist to cut my hair shorter, he was pissed off. From then on he was just cutting here and there just to try to get me to leave the place. I then realized what he's up to. I asked that I need to talk with the manager/owner. To my surprise he indicated that he himself is the owner. I then had no choice but to pay up, leave them with the thought that the place sucks and that I will never be back. Do not go here to get your eyebrows done. Worst experience I have ever had. It's taken me such a long time to get my brows to grow and get them to how I wanted, just asked for a simple clean up. She completely cut through the whole front of my brow with trimming scissors making it shorter than the rest of my brows. They weren't cleaned up at all. The space is small and there are usually 3 hairdressers to cut hair and there is usually a long line during the weekends. However, what you pay is what you get. Haircuts range from $7-$10. I pay $10 because my hair is of medium length. This is a cheap price and the quality is good. I usually get my hair cut by this one lady (they are all asian) and she does exactly what I say. The other two always seem to give their opinion, which can be annoying. Also, I get layers and my lady uses scissors to cut the layers, which I really like. I hate it when they use the razor to cut layers. If you want a simple cut, like I do, and nothing fancy, this is a good place to get your haircut for a cheap price. read more
