Owners are slumlords in Yuba City. Take ZERO responsibility for houses with mold, roaches, RATS…read more I really loved the vanity piece in the Chico paper about how dedicated Janet Balbutin is to 'wellness & health.' Wow - what a colossal joke! She can't even stop by the slum she's renting out and see the sick children that had to live there for years because the family had little money to move. I *did.* I saw the coughing and sickness. I saw the bubbles in the bedroom ceiling when the roof leaked and wasn't patched for months. I saw the black mold, the roaches, the RATS. We went over with cleaning vinegar and vitamin C and told them to "get out when you can." I see the "yard" that is completely infested with spider mites and weeds. I see the plaster patches and paint being slapped over the literal cracks in the exterior of the home. I still see black mold on the outside north face of the home and protruding from the attic vents. I see the rot of all the wood around doors and windows. I've had to hire pest control to stop the roaches from coming over to our property and remediation for the mites multiple times. I saw 3 cars being moved to the street so that the Balbutins could avoid paying for towing themselves. They did the same with shopping carts full of trash - left them at the sidewalk so that the city and the police would have to take care of it instead. In short, I have no idea how the Balbutins have such a stellar reputation in Chico. Here, in Yuba City, their name is scorned and uttered in sentences like, "When is the city going to take that house from Balbutin and tear it down??" "How could a family with all that money make Yuba City deal with their trash?" In fact, a printout of the vanity piece from the Chico paper was given to me by a neighbor with the comment, "Can you believe this? Obviously, they don't care about people at all!" as she nodded toward the slum next door. So, if you don't mind taking medication from people who can't take the time to visit - let alone care for - a property they own in YEARS, go ahead. But I certainly wouldn't risk it!

I have been a customer of Cotton Club Diaper Service off and on since the mid 1990's. I am a…read moremother of four children, and I just had my fourth child this summer :) Cotton Club Service has been located in Chico serving the surrounding area for at least the past 20 years (that I'm aware of...possibly longer?). I had a great experience with their service of home delivery of clean cloth diapers every week! They had reasonable rates, and the owners were always knowledgeable, Earth friendly business people. This Summer, as a gift, a couple friends purchased my first month of Cotton Club Diaper Service!!! What a fantastic gift! I brought my newborn home from the hospital in the end of July, and there were cloth diapers waiting for us!! Yay!! However, I quickly became disillusioned with the current Cotton Club Diaper Service =o( I'm not sure where to start because it seems as soon as I started using their service, I was disappointed! My friends paid for the first month of service from July 28 through Aug 28. I was paid in full and not due for a bill until October 1. As per Cotton Club policy, payment is not due until the end of the month you are using their service. So nice to not have to worry about a diaper bill for a bit!! By the way, the cost is $89 per month regardless of how many diapers you use (if you have multiple babies in diapers this is a steal!! If you have a preemie baby who doesn't use many diapers, this is a rip off). The third week of August I received a bill for $237 due Sept 1--remember I was paid in full through all of August. According to their policy (you can find it on their web page) and my calculations, I was due to pay $89 on October 1. There had to be a mistake. I called and spoke with the owner, and asked how their billing system worked. The woman on the phone stated "you owe $237, and that will pay you through October." I informed her that she was double charging for the month of August, and that the billing cycle for September had not yet ended. She was confused and offered no reasoning. Eventually, with my encouragement and reminding, she concluded that she was double charging me for August, and was charging early for September AND October. She then changed the bill amount to $178. I became suspicious of her business practices. I requested to go to their place of business to drop off payment. The previous owners always welcomed visitors. The new owner wouldn't allow it. She stated that they had closed the business in Chico and had moved it to Magalia. Needless to say, I paid my bill early and canceled their service. It is really too bad that there is not another cloth diaper service company to chose from. I would recommend laundering your own diapers before ever using Cotton Club Diaper Service. Other diaper services (in other areas) charge you for what you use. Cotton Club used to do this as well, but not any longer. The new owner stated that it is too difficult to charge customers for the diapers they use. It's easier to charge everyone the same regardless of use.
