MasterCraft is a group of true, tested & qualified professionals in many different crafts…read more Initially Mike Garst devised a complex repair which involved building a supporting wall, removing & replacing rotted wood which was not supporting the walls where water had been coming in under the floor for years. Then they installed a solid waterproof barrier, poured a new concrete floor, repaired drywall and it is good as new. That was last month. This week, Joe Martin send his plumbing pros, Ed Ahumada, Jon & Romero to figure out a complex boondoggle which has been wasting gallons of water before hot water emerges. They are working as I write but I have complete confidence based on past experience with MasterCraft that the work will be correctly performed. Not all companies bring such dedication and integrity but MasterCraft is committed to professionalism and everyone is pleasant, qualified and a joy to work with.

I contacted Mastercraft to install multiple sets of French doors to convert my garage into a bright…read moreopen studio space. Front start to finish, Mike Gast and Juan Navarro worked with me to translate my vision into the bright open studio I have been dreaming of... As the project manager, Mike Gast was extremely patient and accommodating, and provided lots of feedback to solve various issues. This was a large project that involved removing the garage door, retrofitting 3 sets of doors, framing and finishing for a custom look, inside and out. They even installed special thresholds so we could be assured of being able to roll equipment in and out of the space easily. After each stage of the job, the crew cleaned up the area and removed all debris. The price quoted us initially was in line with competitors, better than several, who failed to follow up with us. There was no cost-creep, and we finished at the price quoted us. Progress and payment was tracked on their online job project site, which was an added benefit and inspired confidence. I can highly recommend Mastercraft and hope to use them in the near future for several other home improvement projects. (A special thanks to the team, Victor and Tony for their cleanliness and work ethic).

Not only is the quality of work on point, but the functionality the unit is going to be bring is huge. Definitely worth the value. He thought of everything. I would recommend Ricky 100 times again. He also, kept in touch over the time span of the build, his communication was great. On install day he was on time and efficient, he worked clean and left no mess behind. Very professional. We plan to contact him in the future of other projects.

Instead, we got rough, poorly finished cabinet doors and six months of being ignored. The most visible areas -- the front-facing doors -- were left with raw wood grain and saw marks. A basic sanding and wood filler (used elsewhere on the same project) would have prevented it. When we sent photos, Ricky agreed it wasn't up to his standards and promised to replace the doors after "a busy patch." That was half a year ago. Since then: no responses to calls, texts, or emails. We chose him over a Restoration Hardware or Rejuvenation vanity because we wanted to support a local craftsman who would stand behind their work. That trust was misplaced. Learn from our mistake -- be wary of Dad the Builder. Project budget: $5600 Pros: energetic, young, well intentioned Cons: poor attention to detail, follow through, communication

When one of our projects wasn't going according to plan, rather than simply give up and say "We can't do it", Matt and his crew consulted with each other to figure out other options to complete the project with the desired results. They had no problem taking care of customized details to get the job done the right way. Guillermo, Chuy, and Shad are wonderful installers with great temperaments. Everyone was professional and easy to work with. I wish all companies in the contracting profession hand this level of customer service. To top it all, Matt and his team provided very affordable pricing for our home improvement needs. I could go on and on, but would basically be repeating the same thoughts. After getting a few quotes, we decided to go with SoCal Woodworks, and I'm so glad we did. James and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with: professional, punctual, courteous, and always respectful of our home. James patiently addressed all of our questions and offered thoughtful, expert guidance, especially when we found ourselves wavering over details (who knew choosing the perfect shade of blue could take 20 minutes?). The craftsmanship and attention to detail were truly exceptional. The final result is stunning, and I'm already looking forward to working with them on future projects.

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience with So Cal Woodwork, especially because I had…read moresuch a positive experience with them in the past. I originally hired James about 8 years ago when we first purchased our builder-grade home. He extended our kitchen cabinets, added crown molding, and completed additional wood trim and detail work. They did an amazing job, and James was wonderful to work with. Because of that experience, when we recently had a horrible leak that required us to replace our entire kitchen island, pantry, and flooring, along with a few upgrades I had been wanting to do, James was one of the first people I reached out to. His wife was incredibly nice, accommodating, and understanding of our situation. James came out the following Saturday, took measurements, and spent time discussing the repairs and upgrades I wanted done. Then--nothing. I was completely ghosted. If he was too busy to take on the project, I would have completely understood. If the project was too small or simply wasn't something he wanted to take on, that's okay too. But after being a returning customer and taking the time to have him come out, measure everything, and discuss the project, I feel like I at least deserved the courtesy of a response. I called James directly and left a voicemail with no response. His wife had also confirmed my email address before he came out, so there were multiple ways to simply let me know they weren't interested or available. It's really unfortunate because I reached back out specifically because of the great experience we had with James 8 years ago. I would have happily continued recommending So Cal Woodwork to family and friends. Unfortunately, after being treated this way as a returning customer, I can no longer recommend them. Such a disappointing ending to what had previously been a very positive experience.

As the other reviews mention, Michael is extremely knowledgeable on a variety of subjects. He took his time and looked closely at our space, including plumbing and electrical. He talked in depth to my husband, who uses a wheelchair, to see what exactly his needs were for the space, and then he made it beautiful. We had a limited budget, and Michael's design and materials were very affordable and well within our budget. If an adjustment needed to be made, he was flexible and quick to find a solution. He also watched for discounts on materials and saved us hundreds of dollars that way. Often an ADA renovation can look antiseptic, but Michael found flooring and doors and other items that made our new bathroom modern and gorgeous. It has added value to our home. We also hired him to do some additional handyman work like installing kitchen appliances. He pointed out any problems and corrected plumbing and electrical issues along the way. He had lots of tips and tricks on how to keep everything in good working order. He also installed some Smart features in our home to make it easier for my husband who doesn't have access to light switches, garage door openers, etc. He truly is a Wiz! He works hard, leaves everything tidy and is honest as the day is long. I would recommend him for any project big or small.
