Never again took my car in because it wouldn't start picked it up had it an hour went out for Chinese food and my car wouldn't start had to get towed home cause they were closed,towed my car back to them, picked it up 24hrs later my car won't rise(Mercedes) and the gear shift is messed up, i strongly advise you NOT to take your car there especially if you're are woman!!!! I work downtown Stockton and it is very convenient to leave my car at their shop before 8 and pick it up by 5pm. They work with you and keep you updated. The prices are very fair. They are honest with their assessments on what needs replacing or just repairing. These days I do not question anymore when they recommend things... lol ... I went there a few days ago. The mechanic guy seems really cool. He did a diagnostics check and gave me a price to fix it. The price was really high. He exlained to me that its difficult work and the part was like $390. (so i take it as he's being honest cuz i seen him interact with other customer and how he was with me.) i ask him if there is any way he could get the price down to 700-750. (It doesnt hurt to ask). He then tells me "well if i can get it done today i can get to about 650-700. So i leave my car there. He call me later that day. I go to pick up the car i find the car out front with the keys in it..... In downtown stockton. He charged me 789.00 because he had to change an additional part. He said it cost $53 but he didnt charge me labor cuz he was already in that spot. So my complaints arwe...... 1- he charged me 390 for a part that i could have bought at autozone for 155.00. 2- my key was left on the front seat with the windows down. 3- he should have called me before he replaced the second part.... ( how do i know he didnt brake that part..... If he did he should be responsible for it) 4- if he would have been honest and said his price was firm, i would have taken it somewhere. read more

I'm glad I kept their number on my phone. I found out about California Autotech by searching the net for automotive shops with good reputation. Although the comments before me are more than four years old, the contents as well as the five star ratings given were important in my decision making. From what I gathered (just recently) the shop is now under new ownership. That being the case, the staff there seem to have maintained their good reputation as being honest technicians. My experience doing business with their shop is truly exemplary just like the other two customers before me claim. Raul, Daniel and Juan truly know their stuff, they're magnificent and THEY ROCK!!! First off, all I have to say is that they do an AMAZING job. I took my car to 3 different shops and they could not figure out the issue with my car. We went to 2 different mechanics before coming here and they kept telling us that they couldn't find anything wrong with our car just to find ourselves broken down on the side of the road 10 mins later ordering a tow truck. We came here and they empathized with us, did a thorough inspection, found the problem (loose bolt), and only charged us half the price for the inspection. Took my old BMW there for a part I needed replaced, they verified it needed replacing and replaced it. They even checked out the rest of the car, engine, suspension while they had it, didn't try to sell me on more work. They said it is in great shape just bring it back when I need a routine service or any other repairs. It would be a good place to have a used car checked out before you buy, the cost of their time to evaluate it would be money well spent. I've visited them several times. I had a coupon that gives free oil changes with purchase of filter, free wheel balancing, etc. I was on my third oil change in my 2003 Kia Rio. I dropped off the car and the service tech named Josh took my car in. I was dropping it off as I had to get back to work. I came back several hours later to pick it up. I paid the balance, got the keys and went out front. The drivers door handle was broken. I couldn't even open the door, and when I would pull the handle, it would scratch paint away from the door. I went in and got Josh and he said he didn't have that problem when he drove it into the service bay. I told him I didn't have it before either. He tried it several times and I pointed out it was scratching new paint away from the door, and that if it was broken when it came in, the paint would already have been scratched off instead of flaking off in front of us. He said if I wanted he could pull the panel off and take a look. I had to get back to the office, so I reached in the open window to open the door and get in. At my office, I went out and pulled the door panel off to find the metal handle snapped inside. I called Josh and while he again agreed that the door worked when I dropped it off, and that it was broken when I came back for it, they weren't responsible. He suggested I go to the dealership. I asked if they were going to help me out with this and Josh informed me that they had people bring cars in with problems all the time, and since my car wasn't brand new they couldn't accept responsibility. So in summary, if you want to take the risk of your car being damaged and be told it's not their responsibility, go to California Autotech. If not, avoid them like the rip off kings they are. read more

David the owner is cool cat, he's a master mechanic who can fix just about anything. He's got all the certs hanging on the wall for you to see. I'm not sure how long ago the 1st reviewer Steve C. had issues with this place, but I can tell you now there is no longer a Josh working there. I strictly dealt with the owner Davin Hin. David was extremely knowledgeable and honest. After lounging in the waiting room I saw his awards and certificates, one of them is his Master mechanic license, which tells me right away he knows his stuff. I found California Autotech by pure luck. After a long drive to San Diego my Ford Escort began to act up on me as I hit the French Camp area. Once I dropped my friend off in Stockton I tried to start my car and it would just not turn over. I contacted the dealer and unfortunately I had just went over the mileage on my warranty, so it was up to me to find a good mechanic. After calling several shops in the area I decided to have my car towed to California Autotech since the quote from them was lower then the rest. Once my car was unhitched from the tow truck and the paperwork was signed their mechanics were on it. Within the hour they had diagnosed the problem and had prices on the parts ready to go. Luckily their parts guy had them in stock. They had them delivered quickly and by the time I made it back from a late lunch my car was done and ready to go. The service here was great, the mechanics were honest, trustful, and even humorous. These guys know their stuff, and I highly recommend them! read more

I brought my 2010 328i BMW into this shop. I took it to a couple other places and they could not find the problem and I was getting frustrated because I was already paying a lot for a diagnostic. Finally my friend recommended this shop, "California Auto Tech." I left my car for one day and they called the next day and found the problem. Once they found the problem, the price was very reasonable compared to other places I've looked into. It was almost half the price when I went to go check the dealership. I finally brought my car to California auto tech and I couldn't be more grateful. I hope all you happy campers didn't just take their word for the problem. They will tell you anything to get your money. Research other auto repair shops, I would. Then compare. Took my car in for a brake and light inspection. The manager tells me he can order the tail lights because there was cracks in the lens. So I went to pick n pull got a pair way cheaper than he wanted. Then he tells me 3 little cracks, not even on the actual lens isn't gonna allow it to pass. He wanted to order new ones from his guy. I asked the guys name he refused to give it to me. Asked for the manager, hey its the same jerk! When I asked his name over and over he wouldn't tell me. Tried to look at his name tag, covered it up. So I took my car, and went to an awesome place on Mariposa rd. Yea they were $5 more, but that's better than $100 this guy was trying to make on top of the $90 for the b&l inspection. I even told him to look it up, oh they won't work. You need new ones. The law says " as long as the light can't shine thru the crack it is fine. If it is showing bare white light its bad. The lenses had little stress cracks no light at all as they were on the outside where the light don't even shine! Check around. They are out to get your money about it.... read more

My Mustang was having some problems before I found California Auto-tech. My car would drive fine after 10 miles or so it would start jumping and switching or should I say skipping gears Very uncomfortable feeling if your on the road driving and your car starts to act up on you. Brian looked into several inexpensive possible causes before determining that I need a new transmission. I got a few quotes from my local dealers before contacting California Auto-tech they charge like there is no tomorrow. I talk to their mechanics and didn't even tell them about the dealers that I went to, After a day they called me back and told me that I need a new transmission for my Mustang. I really appreciate them looking into the lower priced options, and to my surprise he didn't even charge me an arm and a leg to fix the transmission. Very honest people!!! they been my mechanic for the past year or so... I need to take my car back for a smog check sometimes next month anyhow I'd recommend California Auto-Tech to anyone.
