A couple of years ago I took my truck here to have the vacuum lines connected properly. It was good work, friendly people, and reasonable prices. Also it was the only time since I owned the truck that it ran right. Recently I had the engine rebuilt and I remembered my previous experience. I could have taken my truck to a local shop, but I had it towed 25 miles to have it done right again. I was given a quote of $300 to connect a few vacuum lines, and when I noticed the amount I went back the next day and spoke with someone about it. I told him to just put the hoses where they belong, nothing more. How much could that cost? We're talking about pushing a few hoses onto their proper fittings. I even left two vacuum hose diagrams on the passenger seat. This should take less than 20 minutes start to finish. My bill - $280.00. He also told me that the truck was running rich. I drove the truck home and it wouldn't go any faster than 20 MPH, because it was running lean and starving for fuel. 20 MPH on Lower Sacramento Road all the way from Stockton to Galt. The next day I discovered a blockage in the fuel line. So the owner got greedy and took advantage of the 300 dollar number on the estimate. He pulled a number out of thin air and charged me an incredible amount of money for a very small job. Then misdiagnosed symptoms as I was leaving. Beware - The owner will smile in your face and then stab you in the back. I bent over backwards to return to a good repair shop, but I won't be back again - EVER. read more

Can't get too much more cred than that for me. The man in charge is named Rith who knows cars, customer service, and business. My truck is always running smoother after Rith gives it the TLC it needs. Granted it's not in the best part of town but your not going there to have a fancy dinner, you're going there to get your car serviced. HELLO! The Short Review of Stockton Auto Care -- Pros -- High Quality Work at Bargain Prices. Rith, the owner, strives to offer customers excellent work at low prices. He is very helpful and informative, and his diagnostics and estimates are almost always accurate. He's never charged me more than his initial estimate, and on several occasions the final cost was less than the estimate. If his mechanics find other problems, he informs you right away. No unpleasant surprises, no hocus pocus. Honest and candid, Rith never tries to sell you repairs that you don't need done. Cons -- The garage is literally on the wrong side of the tracks. The freight trains run about fifty feet from the garage, and then you have to shout to be heard. No caviar or champagne in the waiting room; no limo service to drive you home. (Of course, if there was a fancy waiting room and limo service, your repair bill would triple. That's how the dealerships get away with overcharging.) Since I don't live in Stockton, I have to drive over a hundred miles to take my vehicles to Rith's garage. However, since the repairs are much less than what other garages charge, I still save lots of money. If you live anywhere near Stockton--and you are looking for excellent repair work at great prices-- you should try Stockton Auto Care. The Long Review -- I first encountered Stockton Auto Care about 5 years ago when my Previa van was wrecked on I-5 by a big rig that dropped a pallet of metal parts in front of me (and then drove off into the night). Huge pieces of flying metal destroyed the radiator, ripped holes in the oil and transmission pans, blew out two tires and crushed one of the wheels. Out in the middle of nowhere near Lost Hills, I had the van towed to the closest garage. They quoted me $3000 to get the van running. Since $3000 was roughly the value of the van -- before it was wrecked-- I passed. Towing it all the way to Modesto, I got a quote of around $2000 at a garage. A lot less but still an awful lot. A friend who is in the car business recommended that I take it to Rith at Stockton Auto Care. Rith looked over the damage, made some calls for parts, and gave me a quote of a $1000. It actually ended up around $850 because by welding the holes in the oil and transmission pans, they didn't have to replace them. The radiator, of course, had to be replaced. Within a week the van was up and running. No leaks. No lingering problems. A few months later, I sold the van without any further repairs. Rith and his garage are not your typical auto repair business. As I mentioned before, Rith never tries to pad his bill by selling you repairs that you don't need. Too many garages rob you with extra costs for imaginary problems. For example, I lost a bolt on my Nissan Stanza that affected the steering. At a Midas Muffler shop, they quoted me $2800 to have the whole front end rebuilt. Fortunately, I found a small honest garage who replaced the bolt for $50. I drove the Stanza for another two years and it never needed any of the repair work done that Midas had tried to sell me. Corporate owned garages often run up customer bills to satisfy quotas and maximize company profits. Of course, sometimes independent garages overcharge, too. I had a Tundra pickup that I needed to sell. A potential buyer asked to have it checked out by his garage in Berkeley. The Tundra ran perfectly -- but these mechanics 'discovered' $1500 in repairs that needed to be done. This killed the sale since I wasn't willing to drop my price to cover the dubious repairs. I took my truck and their estimate to Rith. Chuckling over their high prices, he joked, "Maybe I should move to Berkeley so I can charge these prices!" After inspecting the truck, Rith could not find any of the problems they claimed needed fixing. Confident that the truck was fine, I soon found another buyer. Aside from his honesty, Rith is very friendly, knowledgeable, and committed to his customers. How often can you say that about an auto repair shop? Take your next major repair job to Rith at Stockton Auto Care, and I'll bet you'll be amazed by how much you can save. read more

The Owner of the Company has lots of integrity. This is what I was looking for. I went to another shop in Stockton, CA Ohanas and that guy was horrible. He charged me twice as much as Stockton Auto Care and that was for only 2 breaks. The guy at Ohana tried to charge me over 1,000 dollars. Stockton Auto Care did all 4 of my breaks for a whole lot cheaper. I will only be coming here from now on. I am very thankful for the way he treated me. This is a small shop owned by a Khmer man in his 30's or 40's named Rith. He is friendly, knowledgable, and does not mince words. He will give you a fair deal and will try to save you money without sacrificing quality. My wife's car overheated one night and I had the car towed to his shop, after my brother recommended me to him. Evidently he has been going to him for years Rith replaced the headgaskets, engine head and also the timing belt with a new T.B. kit all for an affordable price. They accept cards, cash, and checks too. Very good, quality work and he will take the time to explain what is going on with your car and what your options are. If you're looking for a mechanic you can trust who isn't corporately driven and doesn't have a schpeil about fancy, unnecessary products to upsell you with, this is the shop for you. Total ripped off. Called and was quoted 20 bucks for changing out new u-joints. I've bought the parts, took the drive shaft off myself and took it to them. 20 bucks per u-joint so 2 would cost me 40 bucks right? After they were done he said 120? Ok how did I hear 20 and he said clearly for 1 u-joint it will be 20. That means the price jumped from 20 to 60 right? If it was 120 per u-joint I would owe him $240 just to replace 2 u-joints. Ouch. Maybe he was a nice guy and cut the bill in half? The real truth is he ripped me off because he had to go use the smog shop next door stuff to replace my u-joints so in the end he made me pay for his lost time and effort. I understand I must've heard 20 and he meant 120 but how does 20 and 60 even sound the same? Don't waste your time or money here.
