Headed from Az to Ca for the weekend and stopped for some breakfast. We arrived around 8 AM on Friday and it was pretty quiet. We were immediately seated. Our server was super see we and energetic. We ordered pancakes and the Arizona omelet. Pancakes were fluffy. The omelet had great flavor and was filled with all the fixings. The hash brown had the crispy edges I loved. We visited my Aunt Jessica. We stayed at the Wingate by Wyndham. We tried this food and oh my gosh the food is out of this world. Everything was delicious!! When we stumbled in on a weekend during breakfast hours. So glad we did. Their breakfast Buffett with the most amazing brioche breach toast. Wow! I wish I could box it all up and bring to Texas. Stopped in Kingman, on our way to Williams, to spend a week circling the Grand Canyon. It was a good place to stop between Vegas and Williams. We were here for lunch, and started with an order of onion rings for an appetizer. My wife loves onion rings, and is very particular. These were average at best, and my bet is they are the typical frozen variety. She ordered the Sagebrush Grilled Cheese for her meal, which really sounded interesting. It wasn't. I ordered the Roadrunner club sandwich, which was actually pretty good. I wavered between a 3 star and 4 star rating, mainly because our server Shannon was very nice, and did a great job. The day we were there, we only noticed 2 servers in the place, and they seemed to be pretty busy. So Shannon had quite a few tables, and was really hopping. But she kept us happy. But in the end, the food matters most, so I went back to 3 stars. read more

The service was fine and the ambience is about what you'd expect from a restaurant in the parking lot of a Motel 6, and the prices were reasonable . Where they really fell flat was the food. We have eaten breakfast here before on our way to see our sons in Flagstaff. This time were returning from Flagstaff after visiting our sons and seeing the Grand Canyon. We stayed at a nice budget motel across the street, the Arizona Inn. DO NOT stay in the Motel 6 next to Calicos. Terrible, terrible reviews. After a long day, we walked to Calicos from our motel for dinner, arriving at 8 pm. They close at 8:30, but I detected no attitude as a family of three, another couple, and us came in. It is located on Beale St., supposedly in the historic section, but by my observations, the dicier part of town. Still, my wife and I felt safe as we walked from our motel and back. We were seated quickly and attended to by a female server I perceived as a veteran of the establishment, as she was directing other employees. My wife ordered the flat iron steak and a salad. I was delighted to find out that they have a soup and salad bar. I thought those went away with COVID. I happily enjoyed my salad and soup ( I chose the split pea over the clam chowder. The split pea had very little ham but was still flavorful and hot. My wife said there was very little clams in the chowder, but she enjoyed it. Her flat steak turned out to be more of a sirloin or flank steak. My wife said it was tasty, though. I will say that it seemed to take forever for the steak to come out. I was finished by the time my wife was served the steak. For sure, we would return when are passing through. read more

Last night - 11/16/2024 - my wife took me to Calicos for my 70th birthday. We can afford to eat anywhere we want but honestly we havent been able to find a decent high dollar restaurant in Kingman AZ so we are always on the lookout for a good place to eat with reasonable prices. Calicos fit the bill last night. Our waitress "Lauren" was attentive and friendly. After a short discussion with her we both opted for the flat iron steak. Although I know from past experience that their salad bar is terrific even if a bit small compared to some restaurants (bigger than some too) it has everything I need for a good meal it was cold outside so I wanted something hot. Lauren brought our salads immediately (but did forget to bring my dinner roll with my salad as I had asked) and the salad was very good. Upon request Lauren brought my dinner roll with my dinner. All in all, we still give Lauren five stars because she did come back to check on us and promptly got us anything that we asked for. Our flat iron steaks were cooked satisfactorily and were very tender. I had asked Lauren for catsup as normally a steak in a family restaurant is overcooked, dry, and unseasoned. I was pleasantly surprised to find the steak cook correctly, seasoned appropriately, and no need for catsup or steak sauce! Calicos lacks the ambiance (it is a coffee shop) of the high dollar steak houses in Kingman AZ, but certainly makes up for it in service and food quality. In fact, if one were to close their eyes, they would not be able to tell the difference between a Calicos steak and the high dollar places! As stated, we can afford to eat anywhere, but why waste money when the food and service at Calicos are great and half the price? read more

YES, JUST YES (RIGHT OFF I-40 for travelers) Our first time here, AND this is our new favorite in Kingman The wife and I were greeted by the nicest hostess, Maddie, and seated. Our waitress, Marie, was simply incredible and so friendly. Wifey had the prime rib with Texas toast and fries with au jus on the side, and my choice was the soup and salad bar. Let me tell you, everything was incredible, and I can not overstate that. If you are ever in Kingman, this is the place for your entire family to eat. This was a wonderful restaurant with an extensive menu! The restaurant is very nice with large windows and very clean. The staff were all friendly and service was great. My husband had the 8 oz. rib-eye special which came with soup & salad bar and another side all for $19.99. The salad bar had nice Crisp and cold lettuce and many fixin's and there was 2 soups to chose from; both were very good. His ribeye had a big piece of fat, but easy enough to cut away.
