The new look is great after the much needed remodel from fire. We come in regularly making the drive from dolan springs and have been pleased with the salad bar very much. We came in last Friday and the special was an over priced fish sandwich. Fish was fried golden brown, roll was very doughy, no tomato or lettuce or even pickles. We also had the upgraded French dip which had the stringiest roastbeef ever, again great salad bar. My son had spaghetti served with soggy garlic toast, no butter flavor possibly oil. Very small amount of pasta in a giant plate and very bland. We came in yesterday March 27 2026 as during lent we don't eat meat on Friday, fried fish were pre done frozen pieces overly cooked very dark and they were all breading, very little fish. Peeled the bread off of the 3 pieces and made a pile on the plate. Ordered the shrimp plate which was a joke calling those shrimp with onion rings so dark that they were dripping grease. Tuna melt was very good. I don't know if we will get anything besides the salad bar if we return again. read more

What's with hostesses who don't smile? When did that start? Our server was very nice and patient with our questions as it was our first time. It is obviously a local hangout which usually indicates good food. Unfortunately we did not find this to be the case. The special was beer battered fish. It looked so good when it arrived, but turned out to be overcooked and dry. I decided to add the salad bar with my order as I really love bean soup. It was ok but pretty flavorless. The bar was replenished while I was choosing my food but the person doing so only filled it up when it really needed a good clean up as messy diners had made it look unappealing. My husband ordered the liver and said it was good. There was quite a bit of banter with the servers and regular customers, so I suppose you have to be a regular to get that level of service. read more

Headed from Az to Ca for the weekend and stopped for some breakfast. We arrived around 8 AM on Friday and it was pretty quiet. We were immediately seated. Our server was super see we and energetic. We ordered pancakes and the Arizona omelet. Pancakes were fluffy. The omelet had great flavor and was filled with all the fixings. The hash brown had the crispy edges I loved. I had the Prime Rib Sandwich and my husband had the burger both really hit the spot! I usually eat pretty healthy and expected it to be greasy, but it wasn't at all. The service was great, and the atmosphere was just as wonderful. Happy people everywhere - we loved it! We visited my Aunt Jessica. We stayed at the Wingate by Wyndham. We tried this food and oh my gosh the food is out of this world. Everything was delicious!! When we stumbled in on a weekend during breakfast hours. So glad we did. Their breakfast Buffett with the most amazing brioche breach toast. Wow! I wish I could box it all up and bring to Texas. Stopped in Kingman, on our way to Williams, to spend a week circling the Grand Canyon. It was a good place to stop between Vegas and Williams. We were here for lunch, and started with an order of onion rings for an appetizer. My wife loves onion rings, and is very particular. These were average at best, and my bet is they are the typical frozen variety. She ordered the Sagebrush Grilled Cheese for her meal, which really sounded interesting. It wasn't. I ordered the Roadrunner club sandwich, which was actually pretty good. I wavered between a 3 star and 4 star rating, mainly because our server Shannon was very nice, and did a great job. The day we were there, we only noticed 2 servers in the place, and they seemed to be pretty busy. So Shannon had quite a few tables, and was really hopping. But she kept us happy. We have eaten breakfast here before on our way to see our sons in Flagstaff. This time were returning from Flagstaff after visiting our sons and seeing the Grand Canyon. We stayed at a nice budget motel across the street, the Arizona Inn. DO NOT stay in the Motel 6 next to Calicos. Terrible, terrible reviews. After a long day, we walked to Calicos from our motel for dinner, arriving at 8 pm. They close at 8:30, but I detected no attitude as a family of three, another couple, and us came in. It is located on Beale St., supposedly in the historic section, but by my observations, the dicier part of town. Still, my wife and I felt safe as we walked from our motel and back. We were seated quickly and attended to by a female server I perceived as a veteran of the establishment, as she was directing other employees. My wife ordered the flat iron steak and a salad. I was delighted to find out that they have a soup and salad bar. I thought those went away with COVID. I happily enjoyed my salad and soup ( I chose the split pea over the clam chowder. The split pea had very little ham but was still flavorful and hot. My wife said there was very little clams in the chowder, but she enjoyed it. Her flat steak turned out to be more of a sirloin or flank steak. My wife said it was tasty, though. I will say that it seemed to take forever for the steak to come out. I was finished by the time my wife was served the steak. For sure, we would return when are passing through. read more
