You pull in, park, and enter a family run restaurant where they care about service, food and value. The salad bar was fresh and had nice options, including hot soup. The burger (the daily special bourbon mushroom Swiss with grilled onions) was really properly cooked- juicy, flavorful and a generous size. The French fries were crisp outside, and fluffy inside. Eggs were cooked to perfection, I order mine over easy and most of the time cooks can't get them right but not here! My wife detests sandwiches. We were in Kingman for a couple of days. Found this place. OMG. And once more...OMG. They have a BLT sandwich (Coyote BLT:alfalfa sprouts, bacon, lettuce, avocado etc) accompanied by potato salad ( it deserves it's own OMG!) that my wife ate. To the plate. Nada, Zip, nothing for me. Usually she takes a few bites of lunch then tries to con me into finishing her plate so she's not embarrassed. Not this time. I would have had a row of fork tine imprints across the back of my hand if I had reached for her sandwich. I had the beef dip. Nothing to write home about. But the chocolate milk shake. OMG. They use real ice cream, not from a mix. It was awesome. I never got to try even a bite of thsat sandwich. Not a bite...a first. I really think management should reconsider their decision to not let patrons split plates on their specials. Last night my husband ordered the prime rib special which includes a salad bar for $18.99 which is their regular cut prime rib (17.99 regular) plus a salad bar. I asked the waitress if I could have his salad bar because he doesn't like salad. I was told "NO! Management doesn't allow that and you would have to pay for a salad bar" After loosing my appetite, I went ahead and ordered the salad bar so I could have something. This really upset me and ruined my dinner. He wasn't going to use the salad bar and was going to be charged an additional dollar over regular price. This is outrageous. We will not be returning to Calico's in the near future and will tell every one we now about it. Management needs to learn pleasing their clients in the long run pays. We could have spent thousands of dollars at their restaurant through the years, but not now. We will go elsewhere- where if we aren't that hungry we can split a plate. read more

My husband and I stopped here on our way from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. We were starved and the restaurant was easily accesible from the highway. The service was attentive, but not overly friendly. The food was pretty good, standard diner fare. My one complaint and the reasons I knocked it down a star was I was uncomfortably hot in the restaurant. I know it's Arizona, but they really should consider getting air conditioning or, if they already have it, turning it up a few hundred notches. Stopped on the way back from Vegas. Good location and great food! Staff was also extremely nice and attentive. I ordered the cheeseburger with a side of sweet potato fries and they were delicious. I have a favorite salad - Tangy Chicken Salad and always request additional Buffalo sauce. Love their fries. The servers are friendly and helpful. We stopped here for breakfast when traveling through Arizona. The place was clean and service was friendly. Food was good but it is difficult to mess up bacon and eggs. 9/16... stayed @ the motel in the same complex...decided to get dinner. it was great, the service was great, left a really good tip. this year,12/17, the food was great, the waitress and dishwasher/busboy need to get a clue. i guess they were never told to finish everything on their plate. i just wanted to relax, take my time and enjoy being there again .... but nooooo... this time an hour and a half prior to their closing, i was being rushed. i had eaten most of my food and the waitress didnt ask. just assumed i was done and said let me get your plate for you...i wasnt done. then less than 10 min later, the busboy/dishwasher guy just started to grab my plate... i said, im not done and then had to basically hold on to my plate. im not sure if i will return there, probably not. the only reason for 2 stars instead of more is because the food is still great, but the staff was awful this time. read more

Went there around 3pm on Mother's Day. It was not busy.. at all, so no excuse for food on the floor from breakfast. We were seated next to a table where there was a large piece of scrambled egg and a piece of bacon on the floor. The server just walked around it. I didn't see anyone picking up food off the floor. Calico's is a restaurant that we frequent often. Great food and great service...until today. We were seated immediately however the table was not properly cleaned. When our waitress Judy came to take our beverage order she immediately noticed and stopped the busboy to complete cleaning. He immediately blew up at her and told her to clean it. I was really surprised that a busboy would yell at a waitress right in front of customers. She took our order and went about placing it. The busboy (actually a grey haired man) returned with a towel to finish cleaning the table and proceeded to complain that the waitresses don't do their job. Really a surprise for this restaurant. Made lunch uncomfortable for my husband and myself. Still great food though read more
