There are two different tours; one includes the town and goes about 300 feet into one level of the mine. The other goes deeper into the mine. We did the first one and enjoyed it a lot. About half of it is a guided, personal tour of Calico. Histories of original buildings, area geology, detailed information about Walter Knott's connection to the town and how he restored it. You can ask lots of questions, making this a personalized tour. It seems pricey at first at $50 per person, but it is a solid 4 hours and is the best way to get an understanding of the town and it's history. It also feels pretty good to spoend some time in the mine at ~55 degrees when it's 112 outside... Next time I go we will do the 2nd tour, the in-depth mine tour.

Through the dim corridors you'll find a giant spider with glowing eyes, and a medical lab of torture, among other fiends and friends. The whole thing is only about one and a half minutes, but the final room really leaves an impression.

I'd…read moreheard it started as a home haunt, and you can still feel that incredible passion and creativity, but let me be clear: this is a 100% professional, theme-park-level experience. But what really makes this 5 stars is the uniqueness of the scares. This isn't your typical conga line of jump scares (though they have those too, and they'll get you!). The actors here are on another level. They don't just pop out and yell "boo." They interact, they stalk, they emerge from places you'd never expect.  You can tell this was built by people who LOVE Halloween. It has the scale of a big theme park, but the heart and originality of a passion project. Don't even think about it, just go. This is the new standard for haunts in my book. The monsters were awesome and the maze was massive and really well put together and laid out! It was like a carnival with moving parts everywhere. I can't imagine the time spent to assemble (and disassemble) this amazing display. The tunnel with the spinning lights was crazy! I felt like I was swaying from side to side. You could spend hours here just admiring every little detail. It is absolutely AWESOME, and you should make it a point to stop by next year! They scared me throughout the maze, and that is saying a lot considering Universal Fright Nights doesn't.... I didn't have to wait 3 hours in line and the scare was hardcore.... We were staying in town and was lovely to be able to walk right on over. First thing I noticed is it is easy to get lost... in a good way. There's so much to look at. So much fun things that you have to go back and look a few more times. They have package for adventures which we were super excited for. I do appreciate the effort and time they put into making it memorable for the kids. Customer service was awesome I give the gentleman 5 stars. he went above and beyond hoping to extend our experience as much as possible. My son was able to have a bucket full of stones and crystals. We love our crystals and I have my own collection. Now while some crystals were amazing; others I realized were dyed. When we took them back to cabin and showed them off... my fingers turned green/blue. It was a little disappointing knowing how expensive the package itself was. I spent about $90 for the cosmic package. Ouch. I haven't told my son they were dyed but I do believe the value should be as much as it costs. I will return for the shop itself but unfortunately most likely not the package.
