I entrusted a 1970 Chevy C-10 pickup to be restored with Jim Hammersla, owner of Hammersla's Autobody. He is indeed a charmer. I bemoaned how every shop I contacted in my NJ/NY/PA tristate area seemed shady, was too expensive, did not do this kind of work, or needed at least a year. I called Jim from a third-party recommendation (MAACO, with whom Jim lost or dissolved his franchise--I suspect the former), and he explained I had contacted the right business. Promised: restoration in under a year, no more than $30,000 cost, and wonderful results from his kids (his team). I even bought him and his wife dinner. We seemed to be getting along. That was May of 2022. It is now January 2025. I recently reached out to him, but he replied with a notarized "DO NOT CONTACT" letter, not signed by a judge (no judge would ever sign), and he wishes to charge me $58 a day storage fees. He has over $7000 of new parts (suspension system, disc brakes, chassis, and more), my truck engine and exhaust system, and my BF Goodrich tires and wheels. I am the client. I am trusting his years of experience and integrity. I was yelled at continuously on the phone by Jim whenever I reached out about the delays. I was told I was at fault. And that now, in his notarized reply, he wishes to charge me for holding my truck two years over the agreed date of completion. THIS LATEST LETTER FROM HIM, I HOPE, CONVINCES YOU, THE READER, THAT HE IS A LIAR AND THIEF. I am pursuing Consumer Fraud and televised media as well to bring his malfeasance to light.

We reviewed the work required, and he agreed to have the truck finished in under one year at a $30,000 budget. This was May 2022. A whole year goes by and Jim barely contacts me, a few texts here and there. In year two, I have shipped him over $7,000 in parts and he shows me pics of... maybe my truck? But who knows? Jim enjoys laying the blame of his lack of progress on the client--an astounding talent. I checked his reviews and realized he has a PR firm that removes bad ones (they are ll on Google if you care to look). Who wouldn't, right, if your business cannot fulfill promises? The last conversation with Jim was a promise to have my Chevy restored within 6 months of year two. We are at YEAR 3. Nothing but a note from Jim forbidding any contact with him and he wishes to charge me $59 a day for storage. The truck was to be auctioned off for the LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY to raise funds for cancer clinical trials. I posted poor reviews on his website and he is pursuing harassment charges against me. THIS IS HOW JIM DOES BUSINESS. I am taking this to consumer fraud and the Attorney General of PA. Thanks, Jim. You have lied the entire three years.

After bringing it back, I was told the bubbling and peeling are due to a previous paint job not being properly prepped, and that they will not cover it. However, this was never mentioned before they painted it. At no point was I warned there could be an issue or that additional prep (such as stripping the hood) might be necessary to prevent failure. A professional shop should identify surface issues and communicate risks before doing the work--not after the paint fails. Instead, they proceeded, and now I'm left with a defective paint job in under a year and no accountability, despite being told they offer a lifetime warranty. If you're considering this shop, make sure you get everything in writing--especially regarding prep work and what their warranty actually covers--because based on my experience, they do not stand behind their work when it matters.

Took it to this place because I couldn't drive it far, bumper was hanging a few inches from the ground. They made my car look like new after the repair. All of the lines are gapped appropriately and no over spray. Based on the only yelp review this place has I decided to leave small amounts of cash tucked here and there in my car. All of my cash was in the places I hid it and my mats were there too. It doesn't look like anyone dug through looking for stuff to steal. It took about a week and half to complete the repair. Funny although not funny, 2 weeks after my accident my partner hit a box of junk that fell off a truck. So we dropped off that car to pick up mine. Hoping that car turned out as nice as mine, he said it would be done today. Will change review if it isn't.

I went back and we looked for it and they spoke to the person who detailed the vehicle and after they looked around some more... finally said it was never there to begin with(?). I know the car mat was there because that is where my son sits with his muddy shoes from practice. Basically said I was SOL. I had removed all my valuables from the car the night before so I would of noticed it missing then. It may not be a big ticket item but I just paid my deductible and my insurance paid the rest. They may had to have spent a little more time cleaning it because, again this is where my son sits with his muddy shoes and forgot what car it went into or misplaced it. On principal I didn't want to make a big deal but I knew it was there and just wanted it made right.
