Love this authentic Mexican restaurant. Has a great salsa bar satisfying everyone's taste. Have been several times and has not disappointed yet. If you are in the mood for great food try this place out. read more

What a fantastic restaurant! Friendly staff, prompt service, and the most amazing Mexican food in town. I love the carne asada with corn tortillas. The hubs goes bold with a molcajete, one if their signature dishes. Meat piled high in a large hot stone bowl. And fish tacos like you'd taste in San Diego or San Antonio. Go there, try all the salsas, and be amazed. read more

Not impressed at all! I saw all the raving reviews and pictures and was stoked to try it! The food was bland to me and the queso and salsa was bland as well (spicy and non spicy)! People on reviews seemed to love the salsa bar and I don't get it at all! Have of them were almost empty and the flavor was just blah! I had the wet burrito which looked delicious I'll admit but it was NOT! I hardly had any meat in mine at all and way to many refried beans it was more or less a bean burrito with red sauce! My son had a hamburger and did not like it either! This may be ok for some people it's obviously a matter of opinion but not for me or my family by far!! And we go to a lot of different Mexican restaurants (not Tex mex)!! read more

Food was delicious. Lots of choices at the salsa bar. The chili con queso enchiladas were great and you can pick the meat. Lots of combinations with 3 enchiladas. My wife got the California enchiladas and was surprised at how tasty and fresh everything was. Will definitely be going back. read more

In Tulsa for business and this was close. Super find! Great place for good quick Mexican. Truly friendly and helpful staff. Cold Mexican cervezas. Fresh salsa cold bar, with fresh parsley, pickled jalepenos to serve yourself. I had the Moljacete with carnitas, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, Jalapeno pepper, grilled mex queso, even cactus leaf - served in a shallow rock pestal (as in morter & pestal). Very cool. read more

With quite a diverse and adventurous menu, Calaveras is a great new addition to the authentic Mexican restaurants in this area. There are things you've probably never seen or heard of anywhere here. With so many incredible sounding choices, it's almost always difficult to choose. The prices are a little higher than those I'm used to seeing at authentic Mexican spots, but I can't complain about the quality or taste of the fare. The service is usually always pretty quick as well. read more

LA Burrito with fries in it. Hadn't had one in ages and found it on the menu here. IT WAS SOLID! Totally awesome. Super friendly people working inside and good prices. "I'll be back" - Arnold. read more

Well I hate to be bearer of bad news, but this fun place only has OK food. I had puffy tacos, my husband had a giant burrito. The tortillas were stupid greasy, the steak was tiny pieces and a bit over cooked. My husband ate about half his burrito and gave me the "eh" sign. So, we enjoyed the friendly service and salsa bar, but not enough to bring us back. read more

Guisado de Puerco, was slap your mama good! Very flavorful. Boyfriend got the 7 Mares which was all sorts of slow heat seafood stew surprise. My only negative, would be a little too much chili powder in the rice, but I was so full from everything else, I didn't need to eat it. Make sure and try the mango habenero with pineapple salsa! read more

Absolutely Amazing!!! The salsa bar is great. I haven't had verde salsa that good since Texas! The employees are helpful and super nice. I got the chicken flautas, they were crunchy and stuff Fred with lots of yummy chicken. My girlfriend got the fajitas and they were So Good!! The menu is pretty big and I'm looking forward to trying it all! read more

I've been here 4 times. The first 3 times were pretty good but the fourth time I went it was just ok. Their queso is terrible. Tasted like is was Campbell's cheese soup. They have a good portion of their menu covered up with white paper so I assume they just won't update their menu. I do like the decor and the bright colors but the food is pretty good depending on what you get. read more

Best street taco spot in town. I love this place. Huge menu, incredibly friendly staff, and very clean.

Not my favorite. I had some mole that just tasted like Hershey's chocolate.

Loved the concept and menu choices. The problem I had was with an oily film and taste left in my mouth with everything I had. I believe they use palm oil and I don't like the taste of it at all. If I'm wrong about that then it is something else. You may love it. read more

I think this place used to be a Quiznos but whatever... It's delicious. Get the guisado de puerco with chili verde. You might need a little lime and cilantro for the rice but other than that this place will not disappoint read more

I was not impressed with the molcajetes nor the salsa bar. The pineapple habanero salsa was decent because the ingredients tasted fresh, but the others were more sweet then spicy and tasted like canned tomatoes. I mixed them altogether to put on the molcajetes since there was no sauce in the pot. I wasn't a fan of the chicken nor beef, but the shrimp was very good...perfectly seasoned and a little crisp around the edges. Calaveras....another example of Mexican food in the Oklahoma style. If you have had amazing Mexican food in other places (around the world) you might want to find something a little more authentic in Tulsa. read more

The menu is too big. Had a decent meal not long after it opened. But for a new counter service restaurant with not a great deal of space it feels overwhelming to have over a hundred menu items. I somewhat wish the menu would be more concentrated in well executed authentic dishes instead of trying to please the American palate. That being said the flavor of the meal was fresh and way above average. The molchate ranchero was a extremely large portion of carne asada, chorizo, what appeared to be some country style ribs that was well spiced. The rib meat probably would have been better sliced against the grain as it was difficult to cut and didn't fall apart. They have a salsa bar with various options. My favorite being an avocado sauce with what I suspect was roasted chilies or tomotillos. Their extra hot was nearly identical to their regular salsa. Looked like they had the typical selection of mexican beers, but also a few craft selections. It's also a good location in the Kendall Whittier district right next to Circle Cinema. A very good restaurant but perhaps could be better if it focused on being awesome at fewer things, maybe like El Rio down the street. read more

Been craving some real Mexican food for a while since moving from LA and this hit the spot. Next time I am going to try the tacos Mexicanos but the menu was so huge I panicked. the homemade salsa bar, pickled veggies and radishes made it 5 stars for me. It's a nice place to go when you want some real Mexican food in Tulsa read more

I love this place :) Great food, great service with a smile and a bit of conversation and a free salsa bar. Totally cool.

This is the most authentic mexican food in this area. The food was always given to us warm and with no issues. The flavors are really a call back to mexico not tex-mex. The salsa bar is on point and the food is quickly delivered to the table piping hot. read more

Oh sweet margaritas! Top shelf margs for $5 were off the hook! Can't remember what I ate but it was excellent. Great service. Reasonable prices, comfortable deck. Was clean and inviting. Loved this outing! read more

I have loved this place. The atmosphere is terrific, the vibe cool, the fish tacos the best in town. Wondering what has happened? We went there tonight and felt like we were in a different place. They served us with disposable glassware and silverware. They have started charging extra for avocados -- so advised by a small sign at the cash register. They started mopping nearly under our feet with a very pungent detergent 90 minutes before closing. And my fish tacos were nothing special -- not a trace of the yummy tangy pickle that used to grace that dish. I don't know if this was new management or the boss is just away on vacation -- but PLEASE get back to your great self, Calaveras. We need you. read more

I ate lunch here a few weeks ago. I had the carne asada and it was good. I like the salsa bar as well. I just ate dinner there tonight and was totally blown away. I had the big lava bowl filled with steak, shrimp, chorizo, chicken and other stuff. I was stuffed as I couldn't believe how great it was. Definitely recommend! read more

Can you say fantastic? The food is delicious....which is great considering it's pretty inexpensive! Also, the little bar of different sauces to use is so cool. I love all the options! It could be a little cleaner, though it's not gross by any means! read more

Went around 6:00 pm for a nice dinner with my daughter and my boyfriend on Sunday evening. We live down the street and were all exited about the reviews we read. We took our time looking the menu over since it was our first visit, and met a few regular customers who help guide us on their favorite items. We were indecisive so decided to order a little bit of everything. We started off with a run at the salsa bar and a small guac and queso. The mango habenaro was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy becoming my instant favorite. He loved the guacamole while my kid fell in love with the white queso. I usually don't line white queso but this one didn't add a smoky flavor like some, do i are it up. My daughter ordered the mojara frita because it is her favorite dish at Don Francisco Tacos...her favorite mexican place in town. The one here was twice the size and very tender but the seasoning was too light. She enjoyed it very much but did say it needed more spice. My boyfriend ordered the pozolle soup, which was an enormous portion and incredibly delicious, as well as pork chile verde. The chile verde was a big hit with him. Large pork chunks that were tender and the homemade tasting tortillas worked perfectly. I was the only one who didn't fall in love with my entree. I got the fish ceviche. It was very fresh but it was a bit overdressed with the avocado slices and the cubed tomatoes. Too much acidity with the lime. But fortunately, we were completely glutinous in ordering and had also ordered a whole smoked chicken. The chicken was probably my favorite of all the dishes. It was seasoned perfectly, completely most, and absolutely delicious. We were however disappointed in the dessert selections. They looked pre made and old. We admittably over-indulged but it was our first family dinner out in months. We spent $74 and brought 4 togo boxes and a togo soup bowl. It seems expensive until i look in the fridge and see all the leftovers. We can't wait to go back and try the enchilladas and street tacos! read more

Good food, good service and great decor. The fish tacos were very good, the flan was excellent but the pork carnitas was a little dried out. read more

Very Good food, Very Nice people, Very Good service. Don't listen to the negative reviews this place is great.

The place was not the cleanest. Flies were buzzing about. The person taking orders at the counter was also eating at the same time. We got chicken fajitas which were tough to chew. We found a hair on the chicken. The only good part of the visit was the guacamole. read more

Sorry for this, but maybe the feedback will help. I've loved Calaveras since it opened but my last few meals have not been great. I had a taco plate with three different meats and a side of queso. I felt like everything needed salt. The refried beans tasted funny, can't put my finger on it. And the two red salsas I tried were just okay. The one that goes with chips was a bit sweet and didn't have much flavor. I'd like to try again but there are just too many better tacos in town. read more

Are there a few weeks ago and forgot to post. The salsa bar was AWESOME. Love pickle jalapenos and carrots. Had the tripa, lengua and beef tacos. Very tasty and staff was friendly. Going to stop here again with some friends. read more

Yummy Mexican food in Tulsa! Various salsa selections at the salsa bar. Follow them on social media for specials and events. I recommend eating here before going to a movie at Circle Cinema. read more

I used to love this place but it sure has lost its zing. Used to be crowded but now, there's hardly anyone there so this tells me I'm not the only one who is disappointed. Maybe it was growing pains.. added too many salsa... too many tables and perhaps they're more interested in their food wagon as it does get a priority parking space out front. Fact is, the food isn't very good anymore. The chips were okay this time, but last time they were stale. Despite the menu, they tell you certain things are no longer available. Beans tasted odd so I decided to steer clear. Enchiladas were nothing but meat inside a dry tortilla with some sauce dumped over the top. Burrito also tasted "off". So I guess that's it... we won't be back and I'm sorry to say I see the writing on the board. I just hope who goes in that spot next has more staying power. It was a nice 4 year run for Calaveras.. adios. read more

Food service was decent. Food in the other hand was not flavorful at all I have the camarones ala diabla with rice so bland and nasty. Whoever cooks the food has no care at all for the flavors of their food. It was quite pricey also the al pastor tacos were good. Never again going back too pricey . read more

So Mexican food was the theme for this trip to Tulsa. El Guapo was good so I searched out another. Not exactly what I was expecting. It is a fast food place with menus, in a crappy part of town. I am glad I stayed. The food was good and their salsa bar is good. I had the guisado de puerco with green sauce. Pork was very tender, refried beans were good and it came with homemade corn tortillas. Good combo. Worth a try in daylight hours. read more

The salsa verde is better than many I have had, in many other places. However, the rest of the food was basic. The chorizo was the worst I have ever had. I would not recommend this place. The atmosphere was very quaint. read more
