LOVEEEEE!!! Our favorite Tex-Mex in Tulsa! The meat is always cooked to perfection. The rice and beans are always delicious. My mouth drools just thinking about eating it right now! They are a little pricier than an average Taco stand but the food quality is well worth it. read more

Busy place with large selection of good food. I love the salsa bar. The green spicy sauce was yummy! Good selection of beer. We had the Seafood Molcajeta, wet burrito, pozole Verde, chile rojo with green sauce & half a chicken. Everything was good except the chicken. It was dry but overall a great experience. Aloha from Hawaii! read more

OMG I was in town visiting and had a taste for some Latin food. This was really good! I got the seafood chimichanga and my husband got the chicken. Very tasty. They have a salsa bar which you can pick what salsa you want. The mango salsa was really good. Started off sweet then a bite of heat hits you!! Really good. Will def be back next time I am in town! read more

Love the vibe here! The food is great and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Im also very happy about the new renovations to the space being made! 10/10! read more

Calaveras is definitely my favorite Mexican place in Tulsa! It definitely reminds me of the legitness I would get back in LA. My favorite dish are the molcajetes. They are the most giant delicious dishes ever! It seems never ending and you keeping digging and digging and find more treats. I enjoy the one with all types of seafood and love that it also includes cactus and yummy cheese. I have also really enjoyed the cocteles, ceviche, and chicken tinga tacos, which they recently brought back by demand. The customer service is also on point. The people who work there are so friendly. I have gone for lunch on the weekends and have never had an issue with waiting or finding a seat. Service is very quick. And I looooove a good salsa bar. read more

Our first trip here wasn't very memorable, but for the past month, I've had an itch to eat here again. Maybe it was the chips served in the paper boats. What it wasn't was the food. On both times we have come here, the place has been relatively empty. This time around, over half of the menu was crossed out, as well. Granted, it's a lengthy menu so could probably use some streamlining, but seeing all of those items crossed out seemed like a bad omen to me. It was. Wife ordered pollo con queso which was swimming in grease. We blotted most of it up with two napkins. The guacamole was somewhere between mediocre and bad. My dish was alright, but I could really only taste highly seasoned chicken when I was dying to taste the sauce that was on the chicken I asked the wife to remind me of this experience should I ever get the desire to eat here again. Equally annoying as the subpar food was the music playing. Envision music you might here on some awful Japanese anime cartoon with Spanish lyrics. With the low number of customers and a menu that they no longer prepare most of, I don't think they'll be around long enough for me to get that desire again. read more

Colorful interior dont judge a book by its cover this place has a huge selection of items on their menu including a salsa bar which comes with every entree! Fairly clean inside and from what i could see of the kitchen area looked good. Friendly staff and reasonable prices cant go wrong with this place for a great fresh authentic mexican dish read more

I had to write a review about our recent experience with Calaveras. This is one of our favorite restaurants and so we wanted to try it to cater our annual Halloween party. It ended up being about $10/person for a street taco party... and boy was it worth every penny! The food was delivered to our home in foil trays that we could easily keep warm in the oven until we were ready to eat. The street tacos came with any meat you wanted or combinations... we got rice, beans, two types of salsa and chips... absolutely exceptional! We had several people ask where we got this great food... couldn't have gone better. And, we found out they'll soon have a food truck that can come to your house for parties... such a neat idea! Would 100% recommend this if you need to cater food but don't want to go pick it up! read more

The only thing better than the good was the customer service... and I love the salsa bar with different types of salsas.... I recommend this to anyone and everyone who wants great tacos at a fair price read more

We came in around an 1 hour and 25mins till close. The dinner I made that night, didn't turn out right, so since we live nearby we decided to make a run out. We ordered Queso Enchiladas, Asada Nachos and a kid's quesadilla with a starter of queso with 2 soft drinks. It was $35 and some change. Place has cool decor but the place feels dirty and unorganized and very humid inside. The chips were ultra stale, not sure if it was because it was about to close soon, and so it was my mistake to order nachos because the chips were also ultra stale. The "Asada" tasted cheap, no seasoning, and way too chewy like it was frozen for too long. Queso has no flavor as well, and overall I was terribly disappointed. I was expecting a really cool restaurant with decent food, but it was a let down. read more

I loved my main dish (chicken enchiladas) but the chips I ordered were stale and soggy. They have beer but not liquor so there margarita is not made with tequila so it was not very good. read more

After reading all of the glowing reviews, I was expecting far more than what was actually delivered. I ended up ordering the Molcajete Jalisco, partly because many of the dishes I would have ordered had been crossed out on the menu (strange). When my dish came out, it looked totally different than the picture on the menu (strange again). I have no idea what I ate but it was average at best. I have visited here for my first and last time. Just not my thing. read more

Calaveras is one of my favorite places in Tulsa. I really love the neighborhood (its right by Circle Cinema) and I really like the building with all the calaveras displayed. Also, the food is really really good. Their salsa bar is spot on. Be warned, you have to order your food and pay and receive a number so if you want to be waited on, that doesn't happen. However, there's only ever major line congestion during rushes. But, due to the set up, you may be standing outside to wait. If you haven't eaten there, I recommend it read more

This is a rare occasion where I have to disagree with the yelp consensus. The good: food came out quickly once ordered, the employees were friendly. The meh: I got the fajitas and they were mediocre, the beans were at that level as well. They weren't inedible but after having them once, I do not have a strong urge to return. Hence 3 stars for the average meal. There isn't an overwhelming sense of cleanliness either - perhaps it's due to the building being a bit older. read more

By far the best In town. I'm a bit of a fish taco fanatic and theirs are beyond amazing. The refried beans might just be from heaven and if you like spicy, you must try the green salsa! Just go. You won't regret it. Promise. read more

I walked in, I had mixed feelings. I looked at the menu, I had hopes. I tasted the food, I couldn't believe what I was experiencing. I felt a mix of emotions... I was excited to be experiencing the taste of fresh authentic Mexican food. I was saddened to know that I had been passing by this place for years, living in Tulsa for 10+ years, not knowing the life changing powers that could be found within. I'm convinced this food must cure cancer. Try it, call me a liar, I dare you. read more

This is my husband and my favorite Mexican restaurant! We live in Claremore, but have this every Saturday for lunch. My favorite is the chicken enchiladas with queso. I also love the Gorditas! My husband's faves: Posole, the salsa bar, Al Pastor, he changes it up. I can't say enough good about it. Love the food, the atmosphere, and the friendly staff! read more

This place is the real deal as far as authentic Mexican food. I had the pork green chile burrito. The sauce wasn't too spicy so I added some of their spicy green salsa from the salsa bar and it was perfect! I want to come back and try their tacos de lengua. read more

This is a great new restaurant in Kendall Whittier. The food is very tasty authentic Mexican food with a huge menu to choose from. The service was pretty quick as busy as they were during the lunch rush. The colorful interior and exteriors of the building makes it feel friendly and comfortable while enjoying a meal. The price of the food is definitely worth the portion you recieve. Definitely stop in for a nice lunch. read more

My wife and I nipped in on a Friday night for a bite to eat before going to the Drive-In. The place was hopping, and we waited three or four minutes before we could order at the counter, but our order was served to us less than five minutes after we sat down! I was impressed that they were so efficient with such a full restaurant. I ordered the fish tacos and was delighted: they were fully loaded and flavorful, with a side of Mexican rice and beans on the side. My wife just got a cheese quesadilla, but she said that it hit the spot, and her standards are very high. But the salsa, man. Good grief, the salsa. We got the hot green salsa and the fire-roasted salsa. The former packed a mean punch (I gulped down two glasses of water to extinguish my tongue), while the latter had a milder spice with an equally substantial flavor. They complemented each other perfectly, and since our visit I've caught my mind wandering back to that salsa every time I think about dinner. Great location, too: lots of free parking at historic Whittier Square, and you could catch a movie next door at Circle Cinema after your meal. read more

Calaveras is one of the best quick Latin spots in Tulsa. If you haven't been yet, highly recommend for lunch or a casual dinner. I've been several times with buddies, always an easy spot to drop in and the employees are so kind. When you first come in, you order up front and they give you chips and bowls to get your own salsa from their incredible salsa bar. The roja and avocado salsas are both incredibly tasty. Way better than any restaurant salsa you get served, and you don't have to wait forever on refills either. Off the menu, I've had a few things. I keep reading about the Pozole Verde soup on here though and decided to drop in to try it. Fantastic stuff. Sounds a little crazy but for $5.99 for a small (huge) bowl of it, killer value. I also added in one carnitas taco. I've had some taco experiences in my life. Even went on a Taqueria Tour around Oklahoma last summer. I gotta be honest, one of the best tacos I've had in years... and it's right here in Tulsa. read more

Bright and colorful, much like their decor. I enjoyed the salsa bar which had several different types available. The grilled tacos were tasty and more than I could finish. The children's bean burrito was thoroughly enjoyed by my toddler. Not standard tex mex flavors, but very tasty. Nice quick counter service and we enjoyed our lunch. read more

A hole in the wall place, this restaurant is where it's at. Located off the corner of Admiral and Lewis, it is definitely a diamond in the rough. The chicken flaujtas were large and flavorful. The salsa bar is modest but boasts a decent choice of salsa, all of which were an orgasm in my mouth. Tulsa definitely needs more places like this, as I have discovered the hole in the wall places often have the best food. I will absolutely be coming back. read more

The food was amazing. Debbie had the chicken tacos and I had the shrimp tacos. Both were delicious. We paired it with an Occulto beer and the salsa bar. One word of caution, what appears to be a cheese dip is actually a habanero sauce. Hot, and hurts oh so good. We will come back for sure. I highly recommend Calaveras! read more

Great mexican food! Im from Cali and live in Arkansas so im used to good authentic mexican food something that arkansas lacks! This place is authentic mexican food and the taste is great. Totally recommend it. Service was good and they have a variety of salsas to choose from. read more

The atmosphere is nice! It's very fun and festively decorated. The employees are very nice and informative as well. The food is okay. The queso is too runny and taste like it is mixed with chicken broth. The beef enchiladas were okay. They taste like they are made with wolf brand chili. The side of beans and rice that they give you are small. The thing I like most about the restaurant was that he bar that had different types of salsas and fixings. read more

Came in here for an early dinner, the lady behind the counter was vary outgoing, and helpful, the restrooms were clean and smelled nice! The menu is rather large, but easy enough to navigate. I got the Mexican tacos with grilled steak, my order came out quickly and it was exactly what I ordered, the fresh salsa bar is nice, everything tasted amazing! They had a few items on the menu that seemed out of place, like a cheeseburger (not just on the kids menu) and some Hawaiian influenced dishes. But hey the tacos are great and that's what's important read more

Mexican food is a very personal thing. Someone that likes authentic mexican food is likely to dislike tex-mex.... So the first thing to understand is what you are getting. It isn't tex-mex because they don't the cheese hard enough, but it also isn't the authentic mexican food because it has more flavor than you would get in Mexico. It is a bit in the middle, probably best to look at it as a more flavorful version of authentic... In all I expect the fans of authentic or tex-mex will neither hate nor love the place because it is attempting to straddle the two... It does a reasonable job and is above average food. If taste alone were the criteria for a rating it would have a solid 4 star... Unfortunately it has some issues. The pricing is a bit steep for what you get and they nickle and dime you with what are pretty excessive add-on charges... For example I ordered a chimichanga, it was 6.99 and came with rice and beans... Well to get some queso on top of it they hit you for another 1.50... Really? 1.50 for what is essentially a table spoon of watery cheese gravy? Sorry but they made the burger joints that hit you for an extra $0.50 for a slice of cheese look cheap in comparison. Now lets look at the chips... You get a very small paper basket of chips... Why have a salsa bar (which is decent with lots of options) if you are only going to give customers a handful of chips? Chips are cheap and shouldn't be doles out like a precious commodity... but that's the way they do it here. Now the other problem you'll have here is a very extensive menu. It is way to large and frankly makes me think the people running the place haven't a clue about how to operate a place like this. Shrink you menu down and you'll be more efficient and can be a bit more reasonable with your prices... and for the love of god don't charge extra to have queso put on an entre its like giving people soft drinks and then tell them the ice is an extra charge. read more

I've been wanting to try Calaveras because they are one of the few places in town that serve birria de res. The flavor combination of the birria along with the beans and rice was great. I like the salsa bar so you can sample a variety of their salsas. They all had very good flavors. My only slight complaint would be the lack of broth with the birria. read more

We went here over the weekend because word of mouth was saying how good the food is. I agree the menu offers much more than a typical Mexican restaurant. Bight colors inside and out making it a happy atmosphere. When we first stepped in, we saw a sign saying order here & pay here. As we squinted our eyes trying to read the menu on the wall behind the counter and worrying if we might delay someone that would come up behind us, the nice gentleman behind the counter pointed to a rack of menus and said we could take one and choose a table. Oh goodie! I like choosing my own table. I wish I had that choice at every restaurant. The menu is extensive with the expected Mexican meals, plus fish, plus burgers. They have a salsa bar to pick your mild to spicy items and don't have to wait for a staff to notice you need more - just help yourself. Our meal and drink was brought to the table. After ordering and paying you don't have to get up and go get your tray of food. We were totally happy and plan to go again. On the way out, I noticed a van with their name and colors that said they cater. I will keep that in mind. I would have given 5 stars, but since staff doesn't have to do every little thing for you, I thought it wouldn't be fair to the restaurants that have to tend to your every need. Food is 5 stars for sure. read more

Really delicious! Had a cup of the "Pozole Verde" and it was fabulous! Also had the "Asado de Puerco" and it was good too. It all looks like is made with good quality ingredients and fresh. The place itself is nice. Kind of small, but it's alright. They have outside seating too. I'd definitely come again. read more

I enjoyed Calaveras. The brightly decorated interior immediately puts you in a good mood, and the staff were kind and helpful. The salsa bar rocked my world. I give Calaveras four stars because although the food was really good, it was too salty for me (I'm recalling my side of black beans) and getting up to order your food at the counter after sitting down to read the menu is a bit awkward. read more

Decided to try them for lunch. They were busy enough that the line was out the door. That being said, the wait to order was only a few minutes. The food was delivered promptly and there was a lot of it. Servings are large and flavorful. I will definitely try it again. read more

Calaveras has a daunting menu - but it appears they can deliver! With a friendly staff, first timers can ask what is recommended or for assistance to choose between items. We had the carnitas and the veggie enchiladas and both were quite tasty! Pretty decent joint for Mexican food. The salsa bar could be more (grilled Anaheim peppers, grilled green onion bulbs, cilantro, etc). I'll have to go back and check out some other options.
