I'll start by saying the place and its decor are incredible. It's quiet enough to have a nice conversation over dinner and comfortable enough that you don't feel crowded. Last night it was too humid to sit outside, but it definitely looks like a more enjoyable option than indoors. As for the service, the girl who attended us was very kind, attentive, and polite. The guy who prepared the guacamole, on the other hand, had one of the worst attitudes -- he didn't even respond to our greeting. Definitely a -10 in customer service. The food, well, what could I say to NOT sound mean?. Not much. I was expecting flavor, to begin with, especially considering Mexican cuisine. The guacamole was excellent, as were the drinks. My friend ordered a wet burrito -- he said it was awful. I had the shrimp tacos and honestly regretted it. The tortillas were cold, undercooked and soggy. Went for my birthday party and it was phenomenal. Our waitress was a younger waitress, but she was beyond Sweet engaging in intentive to our needs. If I could give this restaurant above five stars I would. The food was absolutely delicious. Our server was extremely attentive and very friendly. And the vibes in this restaurant are immaculate. We sat outside on their patio and it was so beautiful and so nice out there. We ordered guacamole which was made tableside as well as corn dip and salsa with their homemade tortilla chips. It was absolutely incredible. Everyone's dishes were absolutely delicious and the next time that we are in the area, we will absolutely be coming back. Stopped in for lunch on a Thursday. Seated quickly outside. Great view of the dock and fauna. I went with the lunch special at $15. Two tacos and a salad or soup. I ordered both tacos on a crisp shell. They were very good. The salad was exotic. Artisanal lettuce, cabbage, blood oranges, hearts of palm, red onion and a house vinaigrette topped with crispy tortilla strips. Service was quick. The menu featured specials. A lot of specials. It's always crowded but I can't help but think it may be because it's in Harbourside, close to the water, etc. I will say we always have decent service but the food itself is pretentious Mexican food to me. I have been going here for years but it's been some time since I last ate lunch here. Wanted to check out any recent changes to the menu, like wine it seems to have only gotten better with time. This octopus was so excellent, very big portion sizes and I took it home for lunch the next day. The sauces and chorizo that come with the octopus are so flavorful and have a really nice kick to it, perfect for spice lovers. Met a friend here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. This was our first time trying this spot. We chose to sit outside since the weather was warm, and the patio fans made it comfortably breezy. Our waitress was super friendly and brought us waters right away while we browsed the menu. I ordered a frozen mango margarita, though it wasn't exactly frozen when it arrived. Still, it was delicious with a subtle kick, and the sugared rim made it the perfect refreshing summer cocktail. The menu was packed with tempting options, making it hard to choose. My friend ordered the guacamole, which they make fresh table-side. This is a fun touch and a great photo op. Guac isn't usually my thing, but I have to say, the chips were so good I had to push them away to stop myself from devouring the whole basket. For my entrée, I went with the Korean short rib empanadas and two chicken tacos on flour tortillas. The empanadas were phenomenal! Flaky, tender, flavorful, and beautifully complemented by the sauce. A definite 10/10. The chicken tacos, part of the $3 Taco Tuesday special, were also flavorful and satisfying. A bit messy, but worth it. My friend had the steak and shrimp fajitas, which came in a generous portion she couldn't finish but thoroughly enjoyed. We're already looking for an excuse to come back and try more of the menu. Busy spot on a Thursday! This Cantina has a very cool vibe with the bar area having about 12-15 seats while you wait for your table and the selection of drinks is almost endless. The bartenders this evening were slammed making margaritas on the rocks! All looked tasty! While waiting for our table we did experience the bar and had a bit of a show as we watched the bartenders do their thing. Had salsa & chips which were fresh and spiced with a smoky paprika based spice blend along with their tomato based salsa. Excellent! What was supposed to be a 30-45 minute wait turned into a 10 minute wait. Picked up our beverage (Modelo Negra & Paloma) and went to our table outside. The table was a high top and was shaded by a blind to keep the sun from making it uncomfortable. From the food perspective my wife had the mushroom tacos which were very flavorful and I had the Ceviche Samurai (fish is Cobja). The Ceviche was served in a bowl with a guac blend and cut up Cobja resting on top along with plantains. Very tasty! Excellent experience and would rate as 4 1/2 stars! We went to Calaveras with a group recently and got the guac and chips which are always a decent size, tacos, and other apps to share. The only thing I would like to see better is the corn dip size. For $14, it was a little bit underwhelming in how small it was for a group of 10 eating. We were expecting a little bit more to the guac size considering the price. The salad was plentiful and the tortillas tasted homemade and were delicious! We started with the chips, queso & salsa. The salad has a chipotle flavor with a little bit of sweetness. Our server Aiden brought out the house hot sauce which we added to everything! He was very patient and attentive during our experience. If you're in the area we highly recommend this restaurant, the chips alone will have you coming back for more! They're crispy and well seasoned! It was a beautiful day and we ordered the guacamole to be made at our table. The guy who makes it doesn't exactly charm you. but he did a good enough job. The guacamole was delicious. I highly recommend this item with the homemade chips that are endless and there's plenty to eat if you get the queso and salsa with it. Everybody ordered something different and we all had margaritas. The roasted lamb tacos that I had were absolutely wonderful. The chicken taco was also delicious. One of our group ordered an enchilada and said it was extremely good. We also had one guest who had a gluten intolerance and they brought her some other kind of chip. Maybe it was a plantain. Been trying to get in here my past couple visits and finally did. The wait was worth it, we had small plates and the service and our drinks were amazing followed by amazing foods. The decor is a perfect look for such a great experience We had street corn and chili lime brussel sprouts, Korean short rib empanadas and some never seen before jalapeño avocado deviled eggs. For Mexican in this area, Calaveras does the job. I got a burrito and I couldn't say I was too fond of the enchilada sauce on top, but the meat was good and it was well distributed. I tried a taste of the steak fajitas and those were much better, in my opinion. The dining area is cozy and close to the kitchen, but it wasn't too busy when we visited around lunchtime. We have been going to Calaveras for years. When they first opened we were not impressed, so if you had that experience and never went back, I recommend you do. Calaveras became our go to brunch spot for a long time, the only detergent is the parking in Harbourside! It is not awful awful, just can be a pain. Their brunch and happy hour I would highly recommend. Definitely try out the brisket nachos and just about any of their drinks. The nachos are a decent portion during happy hour and even bigger on their normal menu. On this visit I gave their espresso martini a try, it was delicious, definitely a minimal amount of liquid around that massive cube, but very yummy! I also highly recommend the table side guac! So at the end of the day.... The service is great, the food is even better and the unique design detail is definitely worth the visit! read more

I used to love this place, but the prices just keep going up and up. $17 for a tiny and I do mean tiny strawberry margarita that's nuts tableside guacamole is now up to a whopping 16.50 . But they real insult came when they charged me a mandatory 18% service charge fee. And there were only three of us . now I would've tipped that or more anyway because the service was fine and pleasant, but when you put it on my bill and just expect me to pay it. I'm sorry we're done. I am just done with the price gouging. read more
