My newly minted 5-year old just completed a week of summer camp here. She is obsessed and eager to go back. This place is such a gem. Amber is a beautiful human and wonderful to work with. The coaches are incredibly nice and supportive. Sarah leads super fun and age appropriate games and exercises. Obstacle course is well thought out and well executed. My daughter's absolute favorite is the foam pit. And honestly, mine too. Who wouldn't love hanging on the barre above, and drop into a pool of cushiony and cuddling softness :) If you are looking for a gymnastics summer camp or classes for your kiddos, Cal Star is a fantastic choice. Plenty of parking. Awesome facilities and coaches. It seems to run like a well oiled machine with lots of heart. Your kiddos will be in the best hands. read more

We switched to this place for gymnastics class a month ago and OMG it is amazing! The instructors are really hands on at helping the kids. My daughter loves how she is now getting guidance on how to do certain skills. The last place we went to we saw no progression in a year. After just one month here I have seen a huge improvement in my child's abilities. I highly recommend CalStar for gymnastics classes. It may not look as fancy as the other places in Novato but it is 1000 times better for lessons. read more

My kids love this place! I can only speak to the open gym times as they don't do gymnastics lessons. They have open gym on Saturday evenings from 6-9 and that means date night! The staff are super nice and friendly with the kids. For $30 you get three hours of supervised gymnastics play and you can go have dinner! They have all the setups and trampoline, foam pits and huge mats to play on. Don't wear new socks, the foam bits get on the socks and you'll regret it. The place is in an industrial area and is a huge warehouse full of gear. They have cool water for the kids but no food, it's a gym. It's a serious party for the kids to burn off energy and my kids ask weekly to go. They do offer classes and have birthday party rentals too. We have been to a few birthdays here and they are super fun. read more

Cal-Star is a fantastic gymnastics program! My 4.5 yr old son has historically har troubled listening and following directions in other gymnastics classes that are crowded, have large class sizes (8-10 kids) and very young and inexperienced teachers who didn't really seem to care about my kid. At Cal-Star classes are smaller for young ones, only one class at a time and the coaches are experienced and fabulous. My boy is actually listening, following directions and progressing with his skills and confidence! This place is so much fun & the staff are wonderful! My 1year old loves it, but a lot of the equipment is abused & can be dangerous. There's no solid edge to get in & out of the big trampoline safely, there's holes in the wall and pieces of dry-wall scattered around.... It's fun & older kids (4yrs+) would have a blast, but- as always, just have to be careful with little ones. POWER PLAY IS FREE FOR LITTLE ONES 18MONTHS & YOUNGER!! Smells like a sweaty gym, with kids flying everywhere having a blast! But isn't that the point? Some of the more experienced gymnasts can do tricks worthy of Olympians. Obviously getting good training here! The staff is awesome too. My kiddo love it and goes with his close friend and they run flat out for an hour. And the foam pit where they can do tumble tricks and fly, literally, into the pit safely head first rocks. So why the 4 stars? The price. When I started going, drop in was $20 and that was pricey, but worth it to see my guy flipping on the tumble track and improving his spiderman moves. But the last time I was there, she upped it to $25 for drop in. As much as he loves it, I can't see paying that when KinderGym was only $5 (OK, that was years ago, but still, that's my basis of judgement). I can't go every week and buying a session is a waste of money, but dropping in is too expensive now. Rather spend it on a lego that he'll take 3 hours to build. read more

Great place for kids to hang around! Get it? Hang around!! We do the power play for youngins' Anyways, the place is clean, spacious, affordable and gives you more time than the Petaluma version. Plus, the lady who is there is super great with kids. It's also set up well for tracking multiple children if you need to keep eyes on multiple children. Open space without a bunch of shit in the way that makes it hard to follow your roaming toddler but if you put a chip in the tot then you have nothing to worry about because you can just GPS that shizzzzznit! read more

Just found this gem in Novato. Perfect place to let your toddler run it out. They have a free play time in the morning on the weekends for $15 for 1 1/2 hours. My kid loved the trampolines and the foam pit. All the kids played super well together and lots of glee was had. Very large space with lots of room to run. Will def make this a regular in the rotation. They also have formal gymnastics classes and host bday parties as well. Highly recommend read more

I brought my child here for one day during winter break for their day camp. There were only 2 staff with many children. Also, during gymastics camp, you'd expect the kid to do gymastics howevery it seems they just ran around the gym and had free play the whole time with out any gymnastics instruction. However, my biggest complaint was that my child told me that one of the staff said " There are so many kids. All of their parents want to dump them off here." What a horrbile thing to say in front of the kids. The manager should take more care when hiring staff. I was very unimpressed with this gym. Won't be going back. read more

We just had our son's 5th birthday at CalStar Novato...amazing 2hours! The 2 sisters who were in charge during the party were beyond incredible. They made the party with all their help and supervising the kids. Everyone had a blast. Highly recommend this place for big groups, fun for both kids and adults. read more

My daughter LOVES the toddler power play in the mornings. A GREAT place to get out all that energy and meet new friends.

This gymnastics studio has an open play time Sat & Sun from 9-10:30 for little ones (I'm not sure the age limit) for $10. We discovered this place last weekend and it was EPIC. I am still sore from having so much fun. There are ropes and bars to swing from, two trampolines, a slide, a ramp with wheelie thingies to ride down, big things to make a maze out of, and my favorite -- the FOAM PIT. Kids and adults can jump into the pit of foam from a trampoline, hang from a bar, or fall off the climbing wall. There is no instruction and little supervision, so watch your kid(s) carefully as there are many things going on all at once and the place was very crowded by 9:30. But we still had a blast. Great - if you can stand the smell. I love the instructors here. My son really enjoys the classes and I feel that he is learning a lot in a positive environment. However...... The smell of this gym is overwhelmingly bad. Other gyms don't smell like this and it makes us wonder why. During the days when the doors are kept closed, it's the worst. ;( read more

First of all what a great affordable open space for kids to run and explore the movements they can make with their developing bodies!!! My son loved the place!! The staff have always been very curtious and friendly and interact well with both parents and kids. I have run into many old friends, a great social piece for moms and dads too! The only problem we had was the lack of air circulation. Only one door at the front is left open. The smell in the foam pit is too overwhelming. If you or your child have asthma/allergy issues, I would not recommend this gym. The smells, that should be expected in a gym, were too overwhelming for me and exasperated my asthma to the point I needed intervention. Sadly we can't go back :-( read more

I just stopped by today for the first time with my 2 and 1 year old and we all had a blast! Everything is very safe. Jennifer, the staff member was AMAZING. She was so kind to show me around and took the time to get to know me and my kids. She called them by name (as well as other kids) during the Power play. Lots of trampolines, ropes to climb, mats to crawl in on and over. My kiddos were worn out by the end of the 2 hours. I did think the $15 was a little pricey, thankfully my 1 year old got in for free since he is under 18 months. I am hoping they will offer a sibling discount soon. This place is fun and there a lot of things for my 2 1/2 daughter to stay busy with. We came here Monday this week where many kids were on Spring Break, but it wasn't too crowded. They have a good deal for $13 for drop in 9:30-11:30 M/W/F I believe. I only give it 3 stars for the simple observation that it is not very clean. I had my daughter keep her socks on, but the disgusting smell of dirty feet and kid farts when you walk in is overwhelming. Other than that, no complaints. read more

We have had our daughters attend numerous birthday parties and also participate in some gymnastics instructions from time to time. The biggest plus of Call-Star is that they get it if you are not there to produce an olympian but just to give them a fun activity . They offer immense flexibility in scheduling parties and sessions. The young men and women they hire for instructions are exceptional both in the instruction they provide and general ability to handle kids. All this is really great, but something happened today that really showed me that they're about the kids and not the money. My daughter had a birthday party scheduled but then broke her arm ahead of the party. Even though their cancellation policy indicated that we would still have to pay, they said it was no problem and were much more concerned about my daughter's arm than losing the chance to host a party in the gym. I just started going here with my 2 year old and we LOVE it! They have "power play" (open gym play) for kids ages 5 and younger several time a week. Monday, Wed & Thurs 10-12noon for $10. They also have it on weekends...you will not be disapointed, It's money well spent! read more

We had our 5-year-old's birthday party at Cal-Star today, and it was a fantastic experience! Sara and Aaron were wonderful with the 20 children at the party - they struck just the right balance between leading the kids on a couple of activities while also letting them have at it in on many others. Supervision was appropriate, safety properly emphasized. I loved that they kept the attention of 20 pre-kindergartners without ever raising their voices! They helped us set up and take down the party, and our child and his friends were DELIGHTED with the entire event. We'd do it again ina heartbeat. read more

After hearing several moms talk about Cal Star gymnastics, I'm happy to say that we've been and better yet LOVED it! I was afraid my little guy may be too young to enjoy it, at only 14 months and not yet walking what could he do? Boy was I wrong! He was timid at first, but after two visits my son is crawling through tunnels, tumbling and crawling up a storm. He is able to hold himself up on ladders and I can see him taking his first steps at cal star. I need to remember to have my camera ready, which is hard since we are busy having so much fun. Our Novato moms playgroup has been going to the Thursday power play. It is from 9:30 to 11 and free for children under 18 months. I don't know how much it will be once he turns 19 months, but I am sure that it will be worth it. Their are tons of activities, including but not limited to slides, foam pit, trampoline, rings, bars, tunnels, ladders and more! The owner is awesome and super friendly. I hear that they do parties, and may very well be having my sons second birthday there. (I know, I'm getting a little ahead of myself. But hey, when you see a good thing, go for it.) Definitely a fun spot for your little one to get their energy out. So thankful to have this spot in Marin. read more

This review is solely for their birthday package. In a word, excellent! You can schedule on line and see all the available time slots, the price is reasonable (for the amount of fun that is had by kids and adults alike), and the venue is great for birthday parties. My daughter turned 4 and we had kids from 7 months to 11 years old and everyone enjoyed themselves. The hurricane swing at the end was a huge hit. And the food area is situated so that even folks who don't want to walk around the gym floor can see everything and feel a part of the party. I would suggest that they're-work their credit card process (you provide the info online, but they have to reach you by phone before they can charge the card, but nothing on the website explains that when you reserve your spot), but its not a huge inconvenience. So 5 stars for having a set up that is perfect for the birthday plan! read more

We just had our daughter's 4th birthday party here and it was AMAZING! 25 kids running around and having the best time ever. Highlights include the "foam pit" and the big swing. Everything is well organized. Just show up with your snacks, food, and cake and they take care of all the activities. There are 2 staff who were great with the kids, showed them the activities, and kept everything on time. I am a long time customer and supporter of Calstar gymnastics until recently. All of the reviews posted here have absolute truth from the equipment to the staff both good and bad. Recently I had the most horrifying experience and the most disgusting follow up that I have to share. My children were signed up for camp when I showed up and with already 10 kids there 5 of which were under 4 there was only 1 coach.While waiting 5 more showed up. I expressed my concern and the young lady searched for another helper. I waited an hour both in my car and checked in on the kids. While waiting in the car in the parking lot my youngest son came running into the parking unattended. When I came back in to inquire if the coach knew he left the answer I got was I thought he left with you, although my other child was still there. Then I received no phone call from management and when I inquired about what they knew about it I did not immediately get an apology but excuses how they can't over staff...really 60.00 to make sure 10+ kids are safe and are actually doing something except run around will break the bank? How yes it seemed I was unhappy from the beginning...how a day care or preschool staffing is similiar; depends on the day care and oh BTW this is a gymnastics program with equipment and unlocked doors and easy access for ANYONE to come and go...not quite the same. Disgusted by the entire experience and disappointed that after years of going there this is the treatment. read more

My child has been attending cal-star for almost 6 years now. we first started with mommy n me classes and she has worked her way up to a level 4 competitive gymnast by the time she was 6. She continues to make huge progress and is about to be moved up to level 5. Not bad for an 8 year old. The coaches at cal-star are there to make sure they get your child where they want to be. They are serious about what they do and always keep your childs best interest in mind. If your child loves gymnastics and really wants to excel this is the place to be. read more
