Flying Dutchman has open enrollment--you can take it one month at a time any time of the year. My younger daughter wanted to try out gymnastics, but also felt hesitant. I don't think there's anywhere else where we could have started in late spring and committed to only one month. And she was having enough fun to carry on until the end of the school year! Classes were fun and inviting. You pay by the month and get unlimited classes, which makes make up classes really easy. My other favorite thing about Flying Dutchman is how clean it is! I really appreciate that and how seriously hygiene is taken there. The Northgate location is super convenient.

Outside of class, Master O creates a community out of her dojang and her students are at the heart of everything she does. She has organized movie nights at the dojang and coordinated group nights to watch the local baseball team, the Pacifics. Inside of class, she brings a level of magic that I would've never expected from a martial arts instructor - she is disciplined and firm with her expectations, and yet she is so capable of bringing giggles and laughter to class. They perform At the Marin civic center for their mid year performance as well as the all star team who travels to compete far and wide. But hold your horses, I haven't even gotten to the best part! They host birthday parties! Yes, you heard me. Let me shout it from the rooftops. THEY HOST BIRTHDAY PARTIES! Let me first to vouch that they host the most spectacular parties. They offer a wide variety of themes. Whether you have a princess lover, Jojo Siwa super fan, trolls the movie, Moana singer, cars fanatic, they have about 12 different themes to choose from. And if they don't have a specific need, they also can host with a Happy Birthday theme so that you can custom it as needed. Whether you are inviting ten of your closest friends or family or 30, they have different size studios. You can opt to have a bounce obstacle course or not. Let me say that I've attended at least twenty birthday parties at love2dance over the past four years, and not one has been the same. I wouldn't even say they were similar. The theme, teachers and different activities they offer make each party it's very own celebration. We even attended two love2dance parties in one day, and we were thrilled that they felt completely different. The teachers they have host the parties are kind, talented, engaging and just amazing at keep the kiddos entertained. They take the time to learn all the children's names, which to me is unbelievable. They play fun games like freeze dance, stop on the colored dot (think musical chairs), limbo, Duck, Duck goose and four corners. They often learn a fun little dance routine and really take care of every detail. They make the parties stress free for the parents. They decorate the space, provide plates, napkins and utensils and clean up after the party. Words cannot begin to tell you how much we loved hosting our party at Love2dance. I think kids as young as 5 are accepted, and anyone interested gets a free lesson as an intro. There are fencers of all age groups at this school, some as old as 70 I think. There are a number of fencing academies in the Bay Area, but for someone who lives in Marin County, this is the one to go to. Take your child fencing....you never know...they might be an Olympian one day. MFA has frequent tournaments these days. People come from all around the Bay Area. You will meet a lot of great people here.

My son took 3rd place and earned a medal at a tournament hosted at Marin Fencing Gym in December…read more2025. This was his first fencing medal, so it was especially meaningful to him. At the tournament, the owner, Tom Tully, apologized that the medals were not available that day and specifically told us he would send my son's medal once they were received. We provided our mailing address and subsequently sent several polite emails and made calls to follow up. Unfortunately, Tom then stopped responding to our emails and has not returned our calls. As of October 2026, we still have not received the medal or any explanation for why it has not been sent. We have been patient, tried repeatedly to resolve this directly, and even offered to pay for shipping. It is extremely disappointing that something so simple -- sending a medal that a young athlete earned -- has turned into ten months of unanswered messages. The fencing community is small, and reputations travel. It's hard to understand why a gym owner would let something so easily fixed go unresolved. This review will be removed if the club has the decency to send the medal as they promised.

It's a small quaint gym located in an easy to find area with always ample parking (street and behind building). It's clean, organized, and has plenty of equipment. This review is only attestation of the lessons received by Levon, I don't do classes here. I believe I started training with him back in 2015 or so, with a little break here and there. Last I trained with him was maybe back in 2021 (?) so I've really been out of commission since then. My first session back was yesterday and here I thought I'd have an easy one - but he brought me perfectly to my max without overdoing it. He pushed me again and went at another session this morning - perfect workout. He seemed to remember where we left off but also making sure I didn't over do it but yet read my breathing and gave me the needed breaks. This gym is nice and a perfect size for small classes, it's also kind of nice that it's not packed with people and an audience.
