However, most of the time, they only have one mail clerk at a time and everyone has to wait in one line. Once in a while they do open two terminals but rarely. The service one gets is helpful and pleasant, but I wish the place didn't close for one hour mid-day for clerks' lunch breaks. I always forget they close from 12-1 and I end up waiting or going somewhere else. For a busy College Avenue area amidst small businesses, restaurants, markets, a middle school, elementary school and a community college, this little postal office operates like it is in a quiet, suburban, unpopulated area. But the place does get the work I need done. I just have to remember their work hours and beat the lines.

Inconsistent enforcement. They won't do a thing about the people that park on red no parking…read morezones or in front of fire hydrants every day on 4th Street and Romar Court. Every red zone is parked in every night. Nor do they cite for parking in cross walks. All safety issues. Never seen one ticket issued. Yet they are happy to cite if you park over 72 hours in the same spot. Not a safety issue. They care less about true safety issues and instead focus on nanny state enforcement that has nothing to do with safety.

I'll present the facts first: I was driving in the slow lane, picked up my phone briefly for a second (as in literally then put it down) without even activating the screen, therefore it is like any other object in that moment and then the CHP patrol car in the far left lane started tailing me for some time, pulled up to the left and then pulled in front of me, flashing the light for a second before getting off at the next exist. Interpretation: This is a guy who is itching to exercise/abuse his authority but knew he didn't have me on anything since I was not speeding, even though I didn't speak or text on the phone nor even brought it anywhere close to me, it was simply within arms reach in the passenger side seat. I think this is a psychological issue but they will not filter for people like this nor do anything about it. Every officer is different, but experience like this makes me disgusted at even addressing one with respect with the title of officer. Notice none of the Yelp listings are claimed either and there are reviews dating years back. It seems to me whether you're writing a positive or negative review what it comes down to is they don't care. It's a nice idea that a positive experience is published, but will they even see those? I also know at other times when I've called to report something the person answering sounded like I'm just a bother. Heaven forbid actual public safety is taken care of.

The good part was I called the officer trough the switch board of the police department, left a message, He cared to call back and clarify the issue, and in fact I was mistaking the Law. The measurement was from the passenger side not the driver side----- So, Now I have to pay a $40.00 ticket. But I liked the fact, that there are real people behind Law enforcement that care to communicate!

I understand that issuing citations is part of the job and there is a certain stress level built into the occupation. In general, I respect law enforcement and I'm a law abiding citizen with absolutely no previous record. Today, I was pulled over while riding my bicycle for "rolling through" a stop sign. Fair enough, a verbal warning and/or a ticket followed by an exchange of pleasantries such as "Be safe, and have a nice day" would have been greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, instead of returning the respect that I was showing the officer, I received nothing but disrespect from the officer. I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of people skills and frankly the lack of respect this individual displayed as a representative of law enforcement. I'm usually a very positive person but this experience just left me so drained and bummed out that I felt it necessary to join yelp to express my dissatisfaction. Please note: I'm not advocating that civil disobedience, malfeasance, or the like should be tolerated by law enforcement. However, it seems to me that the police need to start showing a little respect when dealing with the folks who they are supposed to be serving. I'm seriously struggling with whether or not to favorably support law enforcement related programs moving forward as I feel helplessly under served by a group who touts they are here "To protect and serve". I'm hopeful that this message resonates loud and clear to those who are either currently serving as officers and/or those who are considering a career in law enforcement.

Ok I get it children's section. I took her upstairs to the adult section and honestly quite a few of the seats, tables were taken by the homeless. I saw one changing socks, picking sores on her feet. I was able to find a table on the other side of that mayhem and the pic posted should be enough to convince anyone how unsanitary this place is. San Rafael deals with enough homeless issues I'm not going to subject myself to more than I already am. I'll go to another library in a different town/city because San Rafael is too woke to care about those of us that apparently have little rights when it comes to dealing with this.

Loved visiting this library as part of my Frank Lloyd Wright (FLW) tour of the Marin County Civic…read moreCenter. It is in one of the stunning domes of the large building. There's an area for FLW books and info, but the rest of the library is like any other public library and offers lots of services and products. I really enjoyed the back room which had a small exhibit about the history of Chilean people in the area. The librarians were all so welcoming and helpful! As I walked around, many greeted me warmly and also were masked -- both gestures were much appreciated!

This place is so amazing, I almost want to keep it a secret. But libraries are one of our most…read moreimportant institutions, so it wouldn't be right not to shout out about the South Novato Library from the rooftops. The book space itself is just average for Marin (I miss my fancy big public libraries in small town Connecticut!), but there is something really special here: The Shop. The Shop is an all-ages Maker Space with almost everything you can imagine to create: a row of sewing machines, knitting and crocheting materials, paint supplies, all sorts of arts and crafts materials, and a full wood shop! I have a sewing machine, but can't work it and hate sewing. It's much easier for me to bring any kind of mending project (I irrationally volunteered to mend some classroom chairs) to the Shop on a Wednesday or Saturday, when a sewing librarian is there. My younger daughter has loved experimenting with sewing here. And my older daughter loves tinkering with the glue gun, foam, fabric, and other supplies. Kids 8 and over can actually stay at the shop during open hours without parental supervision. When we have gone, I've always seen industrious, creative, responsible kids and pre-teens there hard at work. What a great space for young people who often don't have a set place in public spaces, where most events/ places are focused on adults or toddlers/ preschoolers.
