Horrible. Whomever I spoke to on the phone was pleasant. We scheduled a dryer duct cleaning with an arrival time between 9-10 AM the next day. By 10:10 AM, I had to leave for my doctors appt. I called and was told there was traffic and they would be there soon. When I heard the doorbell ring at 10:22 am, I expected to see someone in a uniform or with the logo on their shirt. Instead there was a young man dressed in designer jeans, fancy button down, and loafers. He said he was here to clean my dryer vent. I told him that I had to take off immediately, and showed him my dryer (on my back porch) and where the vent led to. Then I locked the house and left. No one called, emailed, or texted to say they were done, but at 10:37 AM I received an invoice via text. Given that the young man was late and then only stayed 15 minutes was not very reassuring. When I got home the back porch was covered in dryer lint. The inside of my dryer and especially the dryer door was also covered in loose lint. The backyard under the dryer vent had quite a bit of lint as well. Flash forward to 9/29, I realize that the dryer is still drying slow and call another dryer duct cleaning company. They found a ton of lint in my vent and said it looked like the Cal Duct guy just used a light leaf blower to try to clean it out. The other company was even cheaper too! Super disappointed in the lack of communication when they were running late, the short amount of time spent at my house, and the poor quality job. Would definitely not use again! read more

Had a bad experience with Golden State a couple of weeks ago. I started a project via Yelp, and they were the ones with the earliest availability. I've never had my dryer vent cleaned so I had no idea what to communicate or what the process would be like. They had quoted a price for me, and they were the only ones who reached out without providing both a stacked dryer and regular price. The tech arrived on time, and turned on my dryer so he could figure out where the vent was on the roof. We went to the roof and he couldn't figure it out, so he started telling me how it was clearly blocked and because of that, he'd need to move my washer/dryer and because it's stacked, the price was now double. I balked at the price because everyone else had a price that was $50 higher for a stacked unit. He then proceeded to call his supervisor who was on speaker when he said that no one even does stacked washer / dryers, and how difficult it is to do large unit buildings - basically complaining about something I had put in my project. He then told the tech that it was up to him if he wanted to negotiate a price and do the work or leave. When he got off the phone, he complained to me about his time being wasted (as I repeatedly told him I wasn't going to pay double). Not a fan. And as an FYI for anyone reading this, I ended up working with Bay Services, who had a really great tech come out, simply move my stacked unit off to the side so he could clear/vacuum the vent, and then also determine that my vent was actually on my balcony and not my roof - so, actual knowledge and expertise. I would 100% recommend giving Bay Services a call instead! read more

I requested vent cleaning, two bathroom fan cleans, and a dryer vent clean. Pros: things are cleaned out. Cons: - service was much more expensive than the last service I used, but I thought beforehand that maybe it's just me asking for more things to be done. - tech did not go to the correct house, contacting me a few times (I was also in a meeting) while not at the correct house. - tech asked me to solve their parking issues. I don't have a car, but I can read street signs, and after reading a street sign to the tech, they ended up finding parking. - tech brought illness into the home. They sniffed (and I counted, at one point) about every six seconds, for the whole appointment. They did not wear a mask. I got sniffles about 36 hours later, followed by the rest of my household, causing me to miss a planned weekend trip. - tech left gobs of dryer vent lint outside the house. One-year old LG dryer threw an error code D95 indicating vent clogging. CAL Duct was super professional and friendly from scheduling, showing up on time, to the actual work. Josue even climbed up the roof to try to find the vent outlet in the rain to see if he could further troubleshoot! Wow! Dryer is now back to working! I will be calling them regularly to clean my dryer vent! Update: Error code came back the next day, this time D90 (remember Josue wanted to clean the vent outlet outside. He had said that there might be clogging there but we had no idea where it was). This time we know where it is. Texted Lex and he promptly got back to us about a follow-up visit. MLK holiday Josue showed up, climbed out to our small light well, and cleaned the outside vent, which was completely CLOGGED and filled with WATER!!! He spent about 1 1/2 hours cleaning up that sewage look duct with gushing water!! Alas, problem is solved. But he also suggested we talked to Lex to find out why so much water got into the vent, which might indicates something inside is broken (or just the rain). TL;dr CALL THEM!! They answer the phone, offer advice/options and are reasonably priced!! Highest level of customer service I have experienced in the Bay Area. Responsive, honest, solution oriented, and highly customer service oriented. Background: Old dryer dying. Drying sensor fell off, so running dryer using timer (it was taking 2- 3 hrs a load?!). Costco had a sale so bought new dryer. New dryer was a lemon (buzzer didn't work, water was accumulating on the door, taking 3+ hours to dry). Costco offered replacement. While being relaxed, found a ton of water in dryer hose and pulled out tons of wet dryer lint from vent. Turned to Yelp and started calling HVAC companies. First calls got vm and/or didn't have any idea how to deal with this (only does installation). Then I called Cal Duct Cleaning...they answered their phone. Reassured me it was probably cuz of a clog. They would send someone tomorrow with a camera and all that is required to unclog. He reassured me it was safe to use in the meantime (water was due to clog blocking its evaporation - dryer pulls all the water out of our clothes...). Super nice guy shows up and appears to clear it. He was covering for the guy with the camera so he didn't t have one to double check it was gone! Unfortunately a week later loads are running long again. I call back they send their best guy, Gio. Gio, who has a camera and is super experienced, comes and finds a solid clog. They pour hot water down to loosen it but won't budge. They are running late so need to come back and give the water time to do its magic. Third time is the charm! They put in more hot water and are able to clear it. We live in a four story condo building where the vent has tons of turns. This was the best $149 I spent. I had even offered to pay another time for this third visit. I got my dryer vent cleaned. They were very responsive in getting back to me with an estimate and for scheduling the work. Their pricing was the lowest amongst the companies i got an estimate for, and very transparent (it's listed on their website). The work was done quickly. The only negative I have is that on the roof, the stuff that came out of the vent was left there rather than picked up and thrown away. It would have just taken a couple minutes to do that.
