Due to his diagnosis, learning to read, understanding the alphabet, phonics have all been an uphill battle for him. Throw in covid and unfortunately he got further behind. So, in steps Sylvan. (He had a private tutor, who was a substitute teacher), who tutored him once and then quit because she didn't feel she was a good fit. I met with Ms. Gabrielle, the Center Director who was so welcoming and really understood a lot of my concerns. She addressed one of my concerns regarding my son needing accommodations to see and hear letters and sounds and she was able to make this accommodation for him and if not, it was a deal breaker for us. Second, Our private speech therapist had a 40 minute conversation with Ms. Gabrielle about how my son learns, where he's at with his language and what not to say because he honestly doesn't understand what that means. She has proven herself to be so instrumental in my sons ability to learn. She has also communicated this to my sons teachers. In about 4 months, my son has almost closed a years worth of learning. His teachers, Ms. Jen, Ms. Heather, Ms. Mimi And Ms. Rachel are treasures!! They really know how to teach and having them at sylvan is an asset and I'm hoping the directors notice this. These teachers truly care and I can see my sons self esteem and confidence surge! Thank You So Much Ms. Gabrielle and to my sons teachers!

They are not transparent, professional, and have so much turnover and change management which really throws you off. Staff that is hired is qualified on paper, but never available on a consistent basis and neither do they come across as confident when teaching children. This was the biggest mistake we made as parents picking Sylvan. Please don't waste your time or money with the Mckinney location! High level Management will never return your call. They simply don't care.

Our son has been in the program for over year. He is in there 2 times per week (1hr each session). He started out a little behind going into 1st grade and is now halfway through 2nd. His reading is now beyond grade level and he is doing excellent in math. His overall grades are in the high 90s (worst subject was 96). I am confident to say that without Gideon we would still be playing a bit of "catch-up." My personal opinion...you do have to put the work in at home. If you are expecting a "miracle" after a month or two, I honestly do not think any learning center will fit the bill. It takes time and dedication to make sure our son is doing the work at home and prepared for the next challenge at class. (Yes we do trade Gideon homework for electronics time!) Again, this is a great center and I would highly recommend.

I have tried kumon (multiple centers in Plano) before and was complete failure. Didn't like their curriculum, neither the way of teaching. The experience was terrible for the amount of money you pay. My daughter will be there for 5-10 minutes with many other kids per teacher without consistency or care about student progression and then will send her home with meaningless homeworks. So far we LOVE Gideon (although you have to be committed for the tremendous amount of work at home) so far we don't regret it!

Ms. Jen, the owner of this Mathnasium is the most wonderful person. She cares so much about the kids, our community and her employees and it shows! The parents know it, her employees show it and the math learners demonstrate her love and passion in their eager learning of math. Unfortunately, the interaction left me feeling judged and dismissed rather than supported. During our conversation, she strongly discouraged me from bringing my daughter to their location, stating that because my daughter is in first grade, she did not feel their services would be in her best interest. She also made a comment suggesting that I was a young mother and should consider finding a tutoring service that would be within my budget. I found this assumption particularly inappropriate and frustrating, as she had no basis for making assumptions about my age or financial situation. I explained to her that budget was not an issue for our family and that our daughter attends an IB-based school. Her father and I were simply looking for professional tutoring support because we would prefer to have someone experienced work with her rather than attempting to teach her ourselves. Despite explaining this, she continued to tell me that their services were not the right fit for my daughter and instead directed me to a website called Shadow Me Academically. At that point, I informed her that we were no longer interested. This was a terrible experience. I reached out expecting to learn more about your tutoring services and to set-up an Assessment. Instead, I left the conversation feeling that assumptions were made about my daughter, my parenting, and my financial circumstances before she had even had an opportunity to understand what we were looking for. That is not the level of professionalism or customer service I would expect from an organization providing educational services.
