(He had a private tutor, who was a substitute teacher), who tutored him once and then quit because she didn't feel she was a good fit. I met with Ms. Gabrielle, the Center Director who was so welcoming and really understood a lot of my concerns. She addressed one of my concerns regarding my son needing accommodations to see and hear letters and sounds and she was able to make this accommodation for him and if not, it was a deal breaker for us. Second, Our private speech therapist had a 40 minute conversation with Ms. Gabrielle about how my son learns, where he's at with his language and what not to say because he honestly doesn't understand what that means. She has proven herself to be so instrumental in my sons ability to learn. She has also communicated this to my sons teachers. In about 4 months, my son has almost closed a years worth of learning. His teachers, Ms. Jen, Ms. Heather, Ms. Mimi And Ms. Rachel are treasures!! They really know how to teach and having them at sylvan is an asset and I'm hoping the directors notice this. My 8 year old daughter has been attending Explore Horizons Frisco for about 4 months for help with…read morereading and math. She has already made significant progress in math (now above grade level!) and is making solid gains in reading as well. She was a year behind in reading and is steadily catching up. When we did the trial class, I was skeptical because it just looked like a bunch of kids sitting around on computers. However, we decided to give it a try due to reasonable cost, no long term commitment, no assigned homework and a spot-on assessment of my daughter's needs at the end of the trial class. I've been very pleased so far. The sessions are highly individualized, and she is exposed to many math concepts that she hasn't even done in school yet. The staff give feedback after each session, and the director does a one-on-one written progress update every two months. This is extremely helpful in tracking progress against state academic standards and grade level performance and in identifying strengths and weaknesses.
