Cake was a dream!! I've wanted to do a style session with @catpolivoda ever since she started offering them. I was in Minneapolis for work and had the opportunity to finally go. It was worth every minute and every penny. Cat's guidance enabled me to reexamine what I actually like and NOT through the lens of "flattering," but through the lens of how to style and wear pieces. Together, we discovered what I love. Cat's framework helped me evaluate what actually makes me happy. I bought so much that it had to get mailed back home! This store is an amazing safe space. I don't know how I feel about this shop. On one hand I LOVE what they're doing! As a plus size women it can be hard going to thrift stores and finding cute clothes that haven't been worn to death. Cake takes away those issues by catering to my demographic in the most body positive way. The store was small but had sections for every single style. They have swim suits, active wear, dresses, shoes, bras... you name it and they probably have it. The store is open throughout the week or they also have private shopping appointments for Sundays. Prices seemed reasonable, there were only a couple of items that I felt like where priced a little high but not by much- and if they had fit by body I still would've bought them. I think my main issue with Cake was staffing. I didn't get a friendly vibe and honestly felt like they would have preferred I wasn't there. I attempted to make conversation and left feeling some judgement. I personally won't be coming back but I do recommend it for other babes who are struggling to find substantial clothing at an affordable price. read more

Be warned. Read all the reviews. Believe them. Pros: the store is neat, tidy, uncluttered and the clothes are clean and pressed. No creepy "used" smell that some re-stores get. Cons: A visit to this store was depressingly negative. These people do not buy and sell clothes. They buy and sell a social statement with a side of snark. It's plastered on their walls. It's in their stringent and judgemental buy/sell policies and it's in the staff's sneering underbelly of an attitude the moment you walk in the door. Hey. The cause is important. Love that they stand tall for fat people. But my plea is to do it with dignity and pride. Make me want to be a part of you! March in a parade. Wear the ribbon. Sit on your elected officials doorstep. Post on social media.... And yes, buy and sell fat clothes. But do it with a smile on your face and exude some honest joy for working hard for your cause. I want to join that movement. Love this store! It really is difficult to find clothes that are fashionable and affordable for the plus-size figure. Cake is a much needed retail space in my life and I can't believe this was my first time there. The atmosphere is welcoming and the space is clean. There is a pretty decent selection of clothing, shoes, and accessories. The prices are great as well. My friend picked up a dress originally marked at $109 with the tags on for only $20. The great thing is that you're able to bring in your gently used items for store credit. Staff was friendly and super helpful. There is street parking available and typically plenty of it. read more

Pros: Cake is a clean and beautiful store. It's well organized. Staff is helpful and friendly. The body positivity culture is just amazing, and that accounts for my three stars. Cons: Truthfully, it's just not all that fashionable. Some of the clothes are very, very dated. I know, it's a secondhand store. That's to be expected. But I mean not just out of season but out of decade. They piece together cute fits on Instagram but when you go in the store, it really isn't as well curated. I brought in 2 bags of clothes and they took half of it. I was genuinely shocked by what they took and what they kept. You ever walk in to sell stuff, look on the racks, and think "why the heck did they buy this frumpy, wrinkly, outdated print dress from someone but not brand new, tags on, bought within the year stuff?" Bottom line: the concept of cake is wonderful. The execution is so very close to hitting the mark. I've noticed all the people who work there seem to be about the same age-range, and generally same style preferences. I would highly encourage looking at some gen z plus-size influencers, getting a little fresher take on what you're doing. Maybe having two people look through clothes. read more

Love the idea. Terrible store. They are so picky about the clothing they buy, but then the items in store are outdates, stained or pilled. This store still requires you to wear a mask. There has been so much research that masks don't work. I think the employees use the masks so they can make faces behind them. read more

I stopped by the shop to sell clothing that I no longer fit because I've lost a lot of weight. The owner and one employee were in store when I arrived. I'd made contact on facebook with some questions, so I was already accustomed to great customer service. I'd never sold clothes before, so I did research on their site so that I'd get it right. The FAQ about the shop and what to expect from selling clothes is spot on and very informative. I perused some of the items available as I waited for my items to be reviewed. There is some really killer stuff here! It was a very good vibe of body positivity that seems so rare in shops that cater to those who wear larger sizes. I have to admit that it was the first time that I'd felt a little uncomfortable. It wasn't the people in the store who made it so. I'd never really thought that much about how much of a negative atmosphere there is around plus-size fashion. I'd been so immersed in it that I didn't notice know that being in a place that's the complete opposite could feel so good. I recommend anyone, and everyone, who wears plus sizes to shop here. This shop is fabulous! Plus-size thrift in an attractive package. And their social media presence is on fleek! (Is that still a thing?) The obvious reason this place is so fire is the owner Cat. She is a super friendly, inclusive, sparkle of a person and I've only stopped in the shop like four times. I personally have a terrible time finding clothing for myself. I'm a little teapot...short and stout. Seriously, I have to buy capri pants so they don't have to be altered. So finding this gem through a friend's Instagram post was serendipity! I can usually find a couple of items that fit well and work for what I need. It's a resale shop so new stuff is always coming in and flying out so you have to visit frequently and see what's there. Follow them on Instagram and Facebook immediately. Not only for the fun flat lays of outfit ideas that you will want to buy immediately because of Cat's amazing style influence. But because of Cat's positive and uplifting attitude. I don't even know her, but I love her. Clothing prices are quite fair. I feel like they are half price or less of the original purchase price. She does a great job curating lots of fun looks over a good variety of sizes. Shoes tend to be on the larger sizes. Lots of 9's and 11's so I haven't had great luck there lately, but always worth checking out. I'm super tempted to try her one on one styling service. It seems like a good deal with a portion of the fee going towards your clothing purchase plus all of her style tips?! Priceless. My only complaint is that it's far from my home. But if you are ever in SE Minneapolis check her shop out! If I ever go to the Mall of America or Ikea I carve out time to swing by her shop as well! It's a fabulous, positive space with good deals! FIRST! An unreviewed, popular place. What?! Practically a Yelp unicorn these days. It's funny, too, because I submitted the business page on Thursday at like 10pm or something and then Yelp actually called to help them claim it while I was in the shop on Friday around 2:15pm. It kinda feels like the stars aligned on this one. There were a lot of factors working together to bring me here. All of them would have been enough on their own to get me through the door, but the force was strong with this one. They are in Minneapolis - I'm originally from Minneapolis. They have clothes - I wear clothes. It's a plus-size boutique - I'm plus-size. Cat Polivoda, the owner, had a super social media presence before going brick and mortar - I'm kinda a big deal on the internet, also. OK, not really so much for me, but I've been known to Instagram a time or two and that's where we met. So when the shop opened up in October, I mentally bookmarked it for my annual Twin Cities trip. I happened to come in time for the Summer Preview and picked up a few things for myself and something for a friend. I'm an "in between" for straight-size and plus-size (average height, curvy, and about a size 12 most days), but I found many cute clothes in the XL sections (they have 1X-5X and then some). The shop is small and the selection is limited, but it's obviously a boutique and there's more than enough to keep you occupied in a dressing room. I'd honestly have bought more, but my "problem" is that I may be too small for the smallest size here soon, which is too bad because the plus market is so damn stylish these days! Come on in! I don't think you'll regret it. Since it's essentially a thrift store of sorts, there's going to be a heavy rotation of offerings. You may not find what you want the first time, but it could be different inventory the next week. That's something else I love about resale. Absolutely not worth your time trying to resell items here. I love the mission and vision of this place, but was offered close to nothing for brand new items that still had tags on them. I also really didn't find anything "fashionable", "cute", or in style here which was really disappointing. Staff were also very unapproachable and unfriendly. You will have better luck selling your stuff on Poshmark or FB Marketplace. read more

I came in to sell my clothes. I read online about the store's policy and only brought in my best stuff. I was shocked she only took about 1/4 of what I brought in and I had brand new with tags in larger sizes Torrid items, none of which she took. I browsed a bit while I was waiting for her to go through my things and was shocked by the prices. Apparently she isn't aware you can get plus size clothes brand new for the same price she is reselling used items for. The store was clean and well organized but there was not very much stock to choose from. It took me less than 5 minutes to look through the whole store and I was disappointed there were hardly any options for dress pants or work appropriate clothes. Everything was summer casual. I understand she says she is going for a certain look, but she should realize that not everyone wants to dress like her and that larger ladies like choices. I appreciate not carrying stuff my Gramma wears but also not everyone loves animal print or geometric patterns. Anyway that's fine I don't have to buy anything there, so I try to chat while I wait with the staff and they are all kinda rude. Like I don't get that every day of my life because I'm a bigger person. She said she wanted larger sizes but then doesn't actually want to be nice to us?? One girl actually turned around with her back to me while I spoke, sat on the counter and started talking to the other like I wasn't even there. Then it turns out for what she wants to take she doesn't have enough cash to pay me. When your business is to pay cash for your stock of items it stands to reason you'd carry enough to do day to day business or at the very least GET BUSINESS CHECKS! I had to come back to collect my cash and the location isn't close to where I live or work. I won't be telling my other plus size friends about this place and honestly even though she does pay fair for the items she does take I won't be going back there again. read more

Dressing rooms need to be a little more secure. The store is super cute, but that kind of frustrated me since it's a store for plus sized women. Also, the cashier seemed a little frustrated simply because I mentioned something about sizing, but maybe I'm imagining things. We both ended up buying stuff and I'd go back! Let me start off my saying that I have NEVER EVER EVER went into a store and felt so welcome, loved, and not judged. When I walked in I saw such a clean beautiful shop FULL of beautiful clothes and even more beautiful people. The person working (I hate that I didn't get her name) was BEYOND KIND AND HELPFUL!! She helped me pick an outfit for a wedding I was attending that same day and she gave me many idea and choices of what might look nice. I could have cried. I was in a fitting room with clothes that ACTUALLY FIT!!!! clothes that I didn't have to search through soo many smaller sizes to find instead I just found my size... I just found it with ease. Had a fantastic experience selling clothes here. Most consignment or resale places in the area pay a pathetic amount for almost-new, designer items (looking at you, Buffalo Exchange), but Cake took a decent amount of the items I brought in and offered a really fair price for them. I also love the store and atmosphere...I wish they had a little more selection, because I would love to patronize them more, but loved my experience and 10/10 would recommend to others. read more

The woman that was working there was so genuine and helpful. The shop had stylish and affordable that were weather appropriate. I came in looking for cute items to take on a vacation. I was able to find a cute sundress, a belt and an adorable top for 40 dollars, whereas if I looked elsewhere those items would've been at least over 90 dollars. Such an awesome deal!! Don't bother bring your things to sell here. They don't take anything from Catherine's or Walmart, even with the tags still on. If I would have known this, it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. I carefully read their "buying guidelines" online, sorted out, carefully folded, and brought in 9 paper grocery bags of clothes for my mother, who is in the hospital. I sat and waited patiently for 30 minutes for them to go through the bags. They finally told me they were only buying 3 items and the others were out of date or not with the stores style and they don't buy Catherine's brand or Walmart brand. A lot still had tags on. Maybe the shopping experience is different but the selling experience leaves something lacking. When I had disbelief that I would then need to bring home 9 bags (minus 3 items) of clothes, the cashier then told me that I could take the other 3 then. Very rude. I will not be going back and I recommend to others if you are looking at selling, to do so somewhere else. read more
