I'm not sure what they are expecting but gun ranges are not elegant, fancy or going to cater to your every need and whim. They are normally run by an old grumpy Veteran and w a staff that is normally very direct, stern and short bc they are dealing w life and death.. they can come across as rude, but it's not meant to normally. It's the fact they're often dealing with not smart people, not used to shooting firearms, and are casually holding things that kill people.. not your favorite martini. Keep all that in mind and don't expect them to baby you. First, this IS NOT the best range for first time shooters. Can you do it, sure, ideal- no. Second, I love this little range. It's a small, back of the neighborhood type of place. Only 18 yards or so. It's not fancy and only 5 or 6 lanes.. They expect you to know what you're doing; get in, do your thing, use standard firearm protocol for ranges, then get out. The owner has always been nice to me, as w the staff.

We even dealt with the OWNER, who was the rudest of them all. The second we arrived, they asked where we were from. We brushed it off as small talk, but looking back, it felt like judgment. We were a large bridal party with both experienced and new shooters. Since this is advertised as a TRAINING CENTER, we expected the staff to be welcoming toward beginners, review safety, and provide proper instruction. Especially since we had called ahead, explained it was for a bridal party, and were told they were "excited to have us." No mention was made about experience being an issue. Upon signing the liability waiver, the owner handed me a Ruger magazine (even after we said we were more familiar with Glock). He gave us five seconds to load it (even after we explained we usually use a tool because of our nails) before yanking it back, saying he had "seen enough," and accusing us of lying about our shooting experience. At that point, everyone was uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. When we told them, the owner yelled that he'd be happy to take our money but didn't want us shooting there anyway. As we walked out, he and his staff stood at the window and stared at us until we drove away. Truly, this was the most uncomfortable and unnerving experience I've ever had at a gun range and we are members at multiple ranges in our home state... I highly encourage. You read the one star reviews of people having ricochet bullets hit their hands and they begin bleeding and need to go to the ER and the owners didn't care. The gun laws in the state of Texas are a lot different then than the ones in Virginia and the licenses are as well. For instance his permits are valid in a lot more states than mine. Texas concealed weapons permit is honored by most states other than NY and NJ. ( I am from NYC, born and raised there and I know how strict the hun laws are there) and a couple of others where my concealed carry wis not valid in quite a few states..But enough of that because I could go on and on about the difference in gun laws between Texas are Virginia. Let's get back to this review!. My brother in law and I pulled up in the parking lot and walked in. There was a large selection of guns and ammunition to purchase to the right and also the line to wait for the gun range. To the left of the store when you walk in was a vending machine and the restrooms. The restroom was clean. My brother in law mentioned that this location was newly built and it showed. We stood in line, I had to fill out a waiver because it was my first time here. When we got to the register I just had to show my identification. My brother in law had his own weapons and gun chart papers so we didn't have to purchase theirs. We waited until they called his name and which stall was ready to use for practice!. I believe you pay by the hour, we were able and had enough time to use all the ammunition and new magazines he brought to try out at the range. I signed in and the clerk wanted to inspect my ammo, that's new but OK. I open my bag and was told I could not use Nickel plated cases, only brass. I explained that I hand load for revolvers and take my brass home, I don't throw them on the floor. Sorry no Nickel cases but we will sell you ammo. So I said I'll be on my way and left. I can't imagine going back. I would be curious to know if they only sell "Brass" 9mm, 45acp, ect ammo. strange.

But trust me all of that is truly nitpicky after you get to meet the crew. I haven't fired a firearm in over 10 years and needed to finally get a Texas license. I was immediately welcomed as I came in and it wasn't a plastic "Welcome to WalMart" welcome. I walked around looking at their guns and accessories and their lanes. I was surprised on how many lanes they had. I was still a bit nervous when a female a manager started to talk to me. (Man I really feel like a dummy for not remembering her name. I think it was Sonia). She calmed my nerves and asked all the appropriate questions. She took her time and answered everyone to my satisfaction. I told her that I signed up for their Saturday class but once again told her I was nervous about the required time sequence for the shooting portion. She then told me that I could come back any time before Saturday and that their instructor Nelson would teach me and prepare me for the test. I came the next day and I met with Nelson. Remember that name: NELSON!! He took his time in giving me very clear instructions and told me that if I followed his instructions I could ace the shooting portion. He then tested me and I actually got a 100% score!! This guy is truly AMAZING!!! As I was leaving he reminded me that my lane rental, which included ear and eye protection, was available for the day. I went back with my two 9mm handguns and blew the bulls eye out. Mark my words: I will not go anywhere else but to Marksman Indoor Range. Trust me you will not be disappointed. Next step is that AR-15. That will be for another review.

There is a sticker on the gun informing the shooter of a laser. I asked about it and the salesperson said he had no idea even though he bragged about taking the gun in. He then flagged himself several times looking for the laser (it didnt have a laser) but he assured me the gun had gone through a 5 point inspection... the inspection wasnt thorough enough to identify the sticker or the lack of said laser...what a clown show.
