I found myself near their weekend restaurant in Santa Fe and placed an order to bring home. Crawfish & Shrimp Étouffée...one of their signature dishes and my absolute favorite. The dish is rich, savory, and you can see the butter creaminess of the dish. The "Holy-Trinity" is plentiful and still maintains its bite. Filled with crawfish along with large shrimp and rice...this meal is the epitome of Cajun cuisine. Christy took excellent care of me and while this is an hour away, I will be back!

We were seated within 10 minutes. The trouble started from there. We waited for 10 minutes to order our drinks, then waited for 15 minutes to receive our water. Knowing beforehand that this place takes a little longer, we went ahead and put our food order in. We then waited for 1 1/2 hours with no food. Not only that, we were checked on *once* in that time period. We finally left, after no word on our food. I understand it's all part of the experience and that there is usually a wait, but the lack of communication and the service level were horrible. 4 hours after we left our house, we ate fast food burgers on our way home.

My husband made reservations two days in advance over the phone, but when we arrived, there was no record of it. We were seated in the back, which wasn't ideal but we tried to remain understanding. We started with the gator bites ($15.99), and were surprised by the very small portion -- mostly crumbs with just a few small pieces. It did not feel representative of the price. After waiting a little over an hour for our entrées, my Cajun Buffalo shrimp arrived. The flavor was very good, the portion was generous, and the price felt fair for what I received. However, my husband ordered the 1/2 lb crab legs, 1/2 lb shrimp, and fish bucket ($39.99), and unfortunately that dish was very disappointing. The crab legs were acceptable, but the shrimp were soggy, gray, and mushy in texture. He only tried two pieces because the quality was concerning. The fried fish portion was also extremely small -- three pieces roughly the size of a quarter, not even half of a fillet. Service was also very slow. After being there for about two hours, we had to go find our waitress at the bar in another room just to pay our bill. We truly wanted to enjoy our experience, but based on the food quality and service, we will not be returning. I wish I had gotten pictures.

Staff is great and helpful. I had a beer but the star of this dinner is definitely the food! I went with the Half & Half combo (since I had so much trouble deciding..) Shrimp Po Boy and the Étouffée. Po Boy was outstanding. Lots of shrimp, cooked perfectly with a green crunchy breading. I went with Remoulade and it was good compliment to the Shrimp and accoutrements. The bun was what you would hope for, crunchy exterior, nice soft interior. It was also very large, not sure if I could have handled a full size Po Boy! Étouffée was also great, full of good flavors and I had to bring most of this home. It was great the next day as the flavors really settled into the rice. I sampled some of the other dishes that friends had and found them all to be really well flavored. Not overly spicy but nicely seasoned to give a great experience. So I was too full to finish the Étouffée, but I managed to find room to sample the Bread Pudding. I'm not normally a bread pudding fan, but this has me rethinking that decision entirely. So so Good! Overall great experience, great food and plenty of reasons to return to try more of the offerings!

I had over here and sat at the bar, and the bartender was incredibly kind and generous, letting me sample the two dishes I was deciding between. I tried Nanny's Seafood Gumbo, which had a very bold, distinct seafood-forward flavor that might be perfect for some, but for me it was a bit overpowering. The étouffée, on the other hand, was more balanced and lighter, with flavors that just hit in the best way...so it really comes down to personal preference. It was a cold December day, and I was craving something warm and spicy, and this absolutely delivered. I ordered the étouffée with shrimp (though they weren't blackened as described), and it was still deeply comforting and delicious. I paired it with a Harding House Jimmy Red Lager, and loved the thoughtful touch of little baskets of popcorn at the bar. Parking can be tricky in the area, but I easily found off-street paid parking near Turnip Truck!

So, what can be noted about this one gumbo? It's a solid take on this classic dish. The entouffee has a decent amount of crawfish tails and is rather tasty. There is a casually decorated interior dining area and a nice patio covered with umbrellas. As a result, Gumbo Bros is an excellent spot for an easy meal, or a much needed hangover cure.

As soon as I arrived, I knew we were right. It's tucked away from the road with plenty of parking, and housed in a farmhouse style cottage with lots of windows. Signs alert you that there is "no alcohol" on the premises, so don't come for happy hour. Service was friendly, prices incredibly economical. The food? About the best you can hope for for this type of affair. I had the trio, which came with a catfish fillet, 3 chicken tenders, and some butterfly shrimp. The platter also included coleslaw, hushpuppies, white beans, and the choice of another (I opted for a loaded baked potato). My wife had the 2-piece fish fillet meal and opted for fries as her chosen side. While my mom would have preferred the "whole" fish (she called them "fiddlers"), we felt the fillets would serve us close enough as a meal in memory since we didn't want to risk a spare bone. The fillets are tasty, breaded to perfection. Not too greasy, and as my wife noted which is sometimes not the case with catfish, not overtly "fishy" in flavor or aroma. Just really good. The tenders were great as well, tasted fresh and reminded me of tenders from a steakhouse rather than a fast food joint. The buttefly shrimp were great too. Hushpuppies very good, beans on point; coleslaw to me was a bit "meh", but it's rare for me to really love coleslaw. My platter came with an army of sauces (tartar, cocktail, honey mustard, butter, sour cream). The sweet tea is teeth-achingly sweet (wish I'd gone "half and half", but then again this fit the meal). Didn't have room for dessert but the fudgies and caramel pie sound terrific. Not a bit of green or roughage on the platter (other than cabbage in coleslaw) and certainly not "healthy", but tasty as all get out and worthy of our intent.
