Perhaps thunderous motorcycles that roar with dark power. Perhaps bicycles--tools of sweat, stamina, and balance. Either way, the mystery makes them glorious! When a place can be anything in my imagination, it becomes everything. That is true mastery of branding, whether intentional or not. In my mind, their halls shine with rows of gleaming cycles, some forged for speed, others for strength. Perhaps their mechanics wield wrenches like enchanted scepters, resurrecting frames with sorcery. Maybe they offer helmets, gloves, and jerseys spun from mystical fabrics that grant mortals courage. The reality matters not! The legend of Cahaba Cycles is already eternal. And what of the staff? Whether they welcome customers with kindness or the delicious arrogance of experts, they deserve applause. Those who understand gears, chains, and rubber already hold more wisdom than Beast Man could ever dream! But know this--the TRUE villain here is Yelp! Its relentless nagging pushed me to pen this glowing proclamation. By demanding my review, it has been tricked into publishing Skeletor's absurd praise for a shop I have never known. That, mortals, is irony of the highest order. So let this stand forever: Cahaba Cycles is AMAZING, MONUMENTAL, and INDESTRUCTIBLE! I wrote this review purposefully to compliment one stand out employee! ( & no I don't know him at all! ) I recently decided to buy an electric bike , I walked in and usually I'm ignored in these places ( meaning the run bike swim crowd !) I'm 58 and not at all an athlete , I'm overweight I'm sure. people think I'm not "serious " so they ignore me , the last time I'd come in here to buy a simple helmet a girl was almost annoyed at my asking questions like I'm supposed to know these things (?) I had not been inside here in a year bc it was so rude and I was angry at myself for buying a 60$ helmet from an asshole - But last month I wandered in to ask if the had e bikes and I hit the jackpot ! Timothy McOmber ( yes I asked for his card !)!helped me , as soon as I walked in he approached asked what I was looking for and even encouraged me to try the e trike they had in the store in the back parking lot ( Homewood store ) - I was blown away and super excited ! It is honestly the most fun I've had on a bike in 20 years! ( be sure bring your own helmet bc of covid most bike shops require this !) He was so incredibly helpful to an obvious beginner I wanted to write the review to tell his bosses he should train all the staff ! He wasn't pushy at all & I did have to ask for his card ( because I don't ignore great service !) Thanks , bc of this one employee I will buy my next e bike and Any bike thing. I need ( rack etc ) I'll buy from this local store bc this young man went above and beyond ! Needed an emergency brake service on my Venge with just an hour left before we loaded up to depart for Atlanta on a ride to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Our trip would cover 370 miles and 16k foot of elevation gain. These guys got my rear brake bleed and had me on the road in 30 minutes! I had a great experience renting from Cahaba Cycles! The Pelham branch is the one that runs the rentals, but they brought my rental up to the Homewood branch since it was much more convenient for me. For the road bike, it was $40 for the first day and $10 for any extra day thereafter. They just run it on a 24 hour period=day system so you get to keep the bike for every hour you pay for. I went 2:30 Saturday 'til 2:30 Monday for $50. They gave me a super fresh Trek bike that rode like a charm(as far as I know about bikes). The guys here were super friendly and helpful. We got some good bike shops in this city. I will certainly be doing a lot of business with these guys as I found them the most friendly and genuinely interested and helpful crew. read more

LBS can be such a pain in the ass to deal with. This one in particular enjoys bombarding customers with needless questions to drive you away. Show them you know what you're talking about and they become exasperated since you interrupted their hangout time. Do yourself a favor and buy your bike online and learn to work on it from YouTube. Order all your parts online and forget these guys. They'd be happier if you would go away anyhow. read more

They've always been great to work with and have helped us with everything from tune ups to picking out the perfect bikes, and the accessories we have needed. Today they replaced a busted inner tube and even helped me get the bike back on the rack on my car! "I brought my CX bike in right after a VERRRRRRRRRRRRRY mud race. I was covered in mud, grass, and sand. I hadn't had time to clean it up after the race. I had taken a fall and knocked the handle bars out of line, the front wheel was out of true and the brakes weren't operating the best, told Mike I didn't need bike back until the week end "take your time get to it when you can" I said. As usual the bike was ready in a couple of days! Not only were the repairs done that I had asked to be done, but, the bike had been cleaned chain lubed, shifters adjusted, and derailuers adjusted also! These guys NEVER disappoint!! The staff was friendly, and the store offers an in-house repair shop. There's a decent gear/accessory/bicycle selection with plenty of quality brands to choose from: Trek, Gary Fisher, and my personal favorite, Cannondale (originally manufactured in my hometown in PA). I just picked up a replacement seat for my wife's bicycle, and the employee at the counter also set me up with some old innertubes for a project I was doing. read more

Great selection of bikes at various price points, from entry level to hard core racer bikes. Very friendly and knowledgeable sales personnel at any of the stores; everyone wants to make sure you have a good experience. My last two bikes (Salsa hard-tail mountain bike and Trek cyclocross bike) have been purchased at Cahaba Cycles and I'm in the process of convincing myself to buy another one (full suspension Trek mountain bike) to add to the stable - I'll get it from Cahaba, for sure! read more

Incredibly frustrating experience buying a new pair of road bike shoes. I will say, nothing about my body is normal, I've got really wide feet and have to wear a shim on the right to make up for a leg length discrepancy. I went in shopping for a wide pair of shoes. I wasn't quite sure on size and asked if they could order both for me to come try on in the store and make a decision. I was told that couldn't be done. So I opted on the larger pair to be safe. To their credit, when I wasn't happy with the shoes and needed the smaller size, they got right on it and ordered the new pair and gave me a few days to try them and make a decision. That's when the frustration began; I had to make multiple trips back and forth to address the fact that I needed a larger shim on the right. Ultimately I walked 2 doors down to the other bike shop and they fixed the issue right up immediately. Additionally, I felt like the footplate and cleat on the shoe were way more posterior and externally rotated than my old pair of trusty Shimanos. I was told that because of my particular pair of pedals and cleats that this wasn't adjustable. I suspected this wasn't the case because the bottom of the shoe has a marking grid to allow you to gauge distance and rotation. So what did I do? Took 'em home, popped off the cleat, lo and behold the footplate has all kinds of options for adjustment. I don't know if this was lack of knowledge, laziness, or an attempt to sell me a pair of pedals and cleats that "were adjustable" - but it seems someone who works in a bike shop should know this kind of thing. All in all a very poor experience. To their credit, everyone in the store is super nice and friendly but I wasn't real pleased with my shoe experience, especially based on the amount of money spent on some nice shoes. read more
